IPad Affinity purchase same license for MacBook Pro

Recommended Posts

I purchased Affinity and Designer for my iPad Pro through the App Store. I now have a MacBook pro in addition. Can I use my purchase for that platform also? I can find proof of purchase and it seemed to be good for several devices. If so I cannot find out how to download It as the downloads say they are denied. Thank you.

I'm not a Serif rep however...

While the App Store purchase allows you to use the app across multiple iPads, it does not allow you to cross to macOS. You would need to purchase that version separately (either through the Mac App Store or directly from Serif depending on your personal preferences - there are other threads that discuss the differences between the two options).

How many computers can I install a digital product on?
Serif Software is platform specific. If you wish to use Serif Software on both Mac and Windows platforms, you must purchase a license for each.

The help should be clarified; OS X and iOS counts as different platforms too. So I could rewrite the above to "If you wish to use Serif Software on both OS X and iOS platforms, you must purchase a license for each."

But, you are lucky;

OSX and iOS and Windows are operating systems. Mac and PC and iPad are platforms. But yes, that should be clarified.

Maybe, but the iOS (now iPadOS) version is available only from Apple's App Store (the one that runs on iPads, not the confusingly same named Mac App Store that runs on Macs). The iOS/iPadOS version won't run on Macs, nor is there any way to install it on a Mac (because the only Apple store it can be bought from won't run on Macs because the store app itself is an iOS/iPadOS app), so the issue is moot ... as long as one understands Apple's confusing naming practices. :S

Mac and iPadOS users should understand that many apps that are purchased and work on one are not compatible or downloadable on the other.  As I understand, Apple has opened the door for developer’s to code iPadOS apps to work on Mac systems, time will tell. “In an exclusive interview, Apple's Craig Federighi explains how developers will be able to get their apps working on both platforms.”
