Pen Stroke Gradients - Work different L-R vs R-L

Recommended Posts

Is this by design?  When I use the pen tool, select gradient colors, and draw L-R I get the colors as set.  But when I draw R-L the colors are reversed.  From my background with other tools, the gradient colors should always be starting point to ending point, not L-R or R-L on the palette.  What I mean is that in the gradient tool I specify white on the left side, red on the right side, and then draw a line it should always be "white to red" whether I draw L-R to R-L.

Hi @Ross Crum,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
This is by design. The gradient handles are independent from the objects themselves so no matter the direction you start drawing the objects they will always honour the left/right colour stops order you set in the Gradient pop-up. This also happens with gradient fills.

To control the direction of the gradient in a stroke, change to the Fill Tool, set the Context dropdown to Stroke in the context toolbar and you should see the stroke's gradient handle over the stroke on canvas. Adjust its direction as you see fit.
