lgoodwin
I don't know if this is an anomaly or expected behavior. When I "place" an xlsx file the data retrieved is organized as a table, in proper columns and rows. However, the data imported includes rows and columns that are hidden in the xlsx spreadsheet. When I copy and paste from an xlsx spreadsheet, only those rows and columns that are unhidden import, but the data does not respect column integrity and appears to be imported as tab limited text (in some cases with leaders and in other cases with no leaders). Its either of these behaviors the expected response?
Staff Patrick Connor Posted December 13, 2019 Staff Share Posted December 13, 2019 Sorry for the delayed response, and thanks for your report [we forgot to say this when we reported your issue to the developers]. We have made fixes/improvements to this area (XLSX Import - Hidden columns become unhidden) of the program in the latest Affinity Publisher beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below. Once Affinity Publisher has been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update to all customers. lgoodwin
Thanks for addressing this so promptly. The hidden column issue seems resolved. One issue that remains (actually there are several but one I notice now); the place feature does not accurately address merged column formatting. I have attached an xlsx I use regularly. You will note that in row two columns a though e are formatted as one column, centered. When the file is placed, the text is imported in column a and the text formatting does not carry forward. Elsewhere in the comments on the last beta, some observed that it would be helpful to be able to select a portion of a spreadsheet (either as a named data range or as specific columns and rows. You might want to added that to a list of updates for this feature in the future. Board.xlsx Patrick Connor
