Ellipse with brush stroke not connecting properly.

Recommended Posts

When I try and add a stroke to a circle with a brush texture instead of a simple line, I always have this issue where it does not connect properly. I tried converting the ellipse to curves and I've tried many different brushes, none of this worked. It only works when a use a simple line as a stroke. I am having this issue in Affinity Design. I'm not sure if it is a problem in Affinity Photo. You can see at the top of the circle where this happens.

Designer's Vector Brush Tool is intended to be used to add a brush stroke to open curves, not closed shapes like circles or rectangles.

To work around this limitation & close the gap, you can convert the shape to curves as you have done, & then select any of its nodes & use the "Break Curve" action to open it. Make sure the curve uses either the Round or Square cap end option.

It isn't a perfect solution because you can usually see where the texture at the ends overlap, but to help with that you can add a node near one of the ends & delete the end node, or use the Stroke > Properties option to adjust the head & tail offsets to make the overlap less obvious.
