Background colour changes when adding an artboard

Recommended Posts

When starting a new document the main background of Designer is gray. But once you add one or more artboards the background changes to black, see screenshots. Don't know if this is intentional, but it is confusing. Why does the background colour change? Just a small detail, but for me they are important :).

In Edit > Preferences - User Interface

You can set the "Artboard Background Grey Level" slider to whatever you want

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thanks both of you. This setting only effects the background when starting a new document. Once I add an artboard in the document, the background turns to black. I can't change that color with the preference settings. But it's not really a big deal. BTW, I'm working on a Mac. Maybe that's a thing....

They are referring to these two sliders in Preferences > User Interface, which you can use to change the background color at any time. The one I outlined in red is used when there are no artboards in the document; the one in green when there are.

If your documents that have artboards are too dark, move the second slider to the right.
