Carel
In my Affinity Photo there is no Media Browser in View. Can I find it on an other place?
Staff MEB Posted November 26, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 26, 2019 Hi Carel, Welcome to Affinity Forums The Media Browser was removed in v1.7 on macOS. It was based on third-party code and its functionality was quite limited/specific to macOS platfom so we decided to remove it (the Windows version never had one). H Sillitto
That's a real shame. I have managed to have two different versions of Affinity on my two computers, one with the browser and one without. I wasted hours trying to work out how to access the browser on my desktop Mac before it occurred to be to check the versions and yes, they are different. Browser wasn't magic, but it worked fine and i found it really useful. Is there any way to revert to an older version of Affinity with the Media Browser, if I decide I want to? sally_salamander
Is there really no way to view a collection of assets in affinity suite at all? This is a deal breaker folks. Opening files one at a time for those who use a lot of external assets in their work is ridiculously cumbersome. I've overall enjoyed your suite of tools, but this feature is pretty difficult to live without. Needless to say I deeply regret updating to the latest version. Is replacing this functionality at least on your dev roadmap? Best, Caroline

If you search this forum using search terms like "DAM" or "Digital Asset Manager" you will find quite a few topics about this. The short version is while they would like to create their own Digital Asset Manager app & some work has been done on that, development has been suspended indefinitely while they focus on (much needed!) bug fixes & improvements in the eight existing Affinity apps (3 each for Windows & Mac desktops & 2 more for iPadOS). In the meantime many users, myself included, have been using the freeware app XnViewMP as a basic asset manager. Search the forum on that term for more about it. I think sally_salamander is looking for something that will show each image (at least I was) so that it was easier to choose which one was desired. I find Finder works better for me on my mac because it shows most of the images. I have been using Path Finder as it gives me the images with several improvements over Finder. Are you getting an image of the AD drawings in XnViewMP? I may have just not set XnViewMP up right. In XnViewMP, open Preferences (or click on the settings icon), go to the General category & the General tab. Enable "Show all graphic formats." This should enable previews for .afphoto & .afdesign files, but oddly it does not work for .afpub files. This has been mentioned in a few topics like this one. Gear maker
Yahoo, I'm glad I asked what I thought might be a stupid question. Thank you R C-R. Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra
Gear maker
R C-R, Another (possibly stupid) question, from what I can see in XnViewMP I can only open the files in the application assigned to the file. In Path Finder, and Finder, a right click lets me go to an Open with... so I can select the MAS or Beta, or even opening it in APh if I desire. Am I missing something to configure XnViewMP to allow this selection? I tried using the Configure programs... found when right clicking in XnViewMP but it didn't seem to do anything. R C-R
FWIW, I have learned the hard way that not asking what I think might be stupid questions is one of the stupidest things I have ever done. If it is not showing a list of all the apps you want to use, select the "Configure programs..." & a new window should open that looks something like this: The Add button works as you might expect. P.S. I have no idea what the Parameter field is for. Finder and Path Finder loads themselves with everything that can open the file, I guess that's what I expected. When I update an application will it continue to pull the new version if the name is the same? It isn't clear if you have successfully done that yet but if not, click on the "Add..." button. That should open a window that looks similar to a Finder Open window. If it is not already set to your Applications folder, navigate to it (or wherever else your apps are stored), then select an app & click the "Open" button to add it to the list. Unfortunately, it seems that apps have to be added one at a time, so to all all 3 Affinity apps you will need to do this 3 times, plus several more times to add other apps like Preview or the betas. 3 hours ago, Gear maker said: Finder and Path Finder loads themselves with everything that can open the file, I guess that's what I expected. Nothing is added automatically, & there is no check when using the "Add..." button in the "Configure programs..." window. You can add any app to the list, including ones that can't open graphics files like games, utilities, or whatever. (In fact, it even let me add files that are not apps! 😮) From what I can tell, the closest it comes to a 'smart' Open with type function is the "Associated program" choice, which (I think) opens the app set to be the default for opening that filetype. The Tools > Open With submenu lists every app added to the configured programs list & (apparently) automatically adds keyboard shortcuts to up to the first 9 apps listed, like this: In the "Configure programs..." window you can drag items up or down to reorder them, which also changes the associated keyboard shortcut.
