.afdesign file loading and loading and freezing multiple computers

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

Can someone please help me?  I have an .afdesign file which doesn't open anymore and freezes both of my Windows Laptops (Intel i7 processors and 8GB of RAM)

Is it possible to batch convert afdesign files to svg by using affinity software but without opening it in affinity designer?

Maybe you'll have more success when opening my attached file.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bosch,

Welcome to the forums :)

This is caused by the high number of image masks in the file if you rasterise them all you should able to use the file again without performance issues.

Thanks

Wow! I tried to load the OP's file into AD on my iMac & everything slowed to glacial speed -- the cursor would get stuck for several seconds at a time even when I could manage to switch to another app & doing just about anything resulted in spinning beachball cursors. It even took ~45 seconds for the Force Quit window to appear & another 15 seconds to select any app.

I finally managed to force quit Affinity Designer, which (eventually) restored everything else to normal speed. Then I tried opening Affinity Designer & limiting its memory use to ~3GB. That helped, but only to the extent that when I tried opening the OP's file again I saw only occasional lags. As I write this, Affinity Designer has been showing "Loading 1 document" for about the last 15 minutes.

Weirdly, I can still open & work on other .afdesign documents without issues while the OP's file is still loading, but I suspect I will have to force quit the app because that file will never load.

Hi @R C-R

Only curiosity. Does your signature have any deeper meaning or is it just a mistake?

The first two lines are for his iMac. The last two lines are for his iPad.

You're trying to mix and match... Not allowed!  :D

If you mean the color, I intentionally used red text for those two items because they are the two most recent changes to what I use. It has no special significance other than to remind me to update my sig when I update an OS or Affinity app.

It might be interesting why APu is highlighted including the version, while iPadOS is not, but I am a bit afraid of a strange answer, so I would rather not ask :-)

I think this might be a bug.

While my wife was working on the file everything was fine. It's only when she tried to open it again, that it started to consume all the available resources.

There were only 81 masks on a copied rasterized image-object. And all the copies reference the same object.

She did this on two different projects. And both of them are causing the same problem.

:-)
