Move slice with layer even if it has been resized

Recommended Posts

Here's my use case: I have a row of icons that will be exported as buttons. Each icon fits into a 32x32 square, but they vary slightly in size. I want to export each at exactly 32x32.

According to this old forum post...

...I can select the layer for each icon, and create a slice from the layer, and then the slice will follow the icon if I move or rearrange the icons in the file. However, once I manually resize a slice to set it to the consistent 32x32, then it becomes fixed and no longer follows the icon layer.

It seems to me that if "layer slices" are meant to follow their layers, then this shouldn't change if I adjust the slice size. If there's some reason for that behavior, then I would like to see a way to relink the slice to the layer position after resizing it breaks the link.

Of course the distinction between a "layer slice" and a "fixed slice" wouldn't even be necessary if it were possible to simply select an object and a slice at the same time and move them together. But it looks like the icons can only be moved in the Designer persona and the slices can only be moved in the Export persona.
