Baselline Grid in Master Pages

Recommended Posts

The baseline grid in Master Pages is not shown on document pages.

For example:

Create a new document.

Jump to the Maser Pages, create a text frame and enable the baseline grid.

Jump out of Master Pages to any page. The baseline grid is not show.

But if you add another page then the baseline grid is then show.

If you modify the baseline grid on Master Pages the modification is then not shown.

In other words, the baseline grid on Master pages is not in synch with the baseline grid on the ordinary document pages.

I think this is a Metal versus Open GL thing, at least on Mac I have a problem with it with the beta as well just not showing grids on the pages. Only on the Master Pages do they show up.

Use Open GL and all is good, Metal no grids on Pages.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hmm, I don't see baseline grids on pages whether it's Open GL or Metal. :(

Hmm

This is with Mac OS 10.14.6

These are double page spreads. I can have different grids on Master Pages and apply them successfully to different spreads only using Open GL. With Metal I get a brief flash of a grid when I first (and only that first time) change pages but then they are all blank, so basically I cannot get a grid on a page using metal under any circumstances.

To not see the grid I just have to change to Metal.

@Old Bruce, I just realised that we might be talking about two different things. I'm talking about baseline grids applied to the text boxes.

Your picture above shows grids and not baseline grids.

Oh, [expletive deleted]. I'll have to check on that. From memory there was something like what you are describing.

Okay I just checked and the Baseline Grid is visible in the beta under all conditions but it is not available in the current release version under any circumstance that I can figure.

Thanks, well, I'm on the latest beta and the baseline grid applied to the text boxes on master pages is not visible.

1. Create a new file so that you only have 1 page.

2. Switch to master pages and create a text box. Enable baseline grid.

3. Switch to the only page and the grid is not there.

4. Add a couple of pages and the grid will be visible on those 2 pages but not on page 1.

5. Switch to Maser Pages and change the grid spacing for instance.

That is not reflected on the pages that have grids.

6. Create a couple of new pages and the new grid settings will be there.

Very strange. To me it looks as if the changes on Master Pages are not picked up by ordinary pages.

I can confirm that stragne behavior on both mac versions - beta 1.8.0.502 and release 1.7.3.

Additionally I have discovered that on normal pages based on master page AP simply ignore "Use Baseline Grid" setting of any text frame(s) created on master page when this setting is changed AFTER text frame creation. In other words, the text frame created on master page always keeps its initial setting of "Use Baseline Grid" (i.e. how it was set "Use Baseline Grid" setting in a moment of creating the text frame).

So, if you need to have text frame on master page with "Use Baseline Grid" turned on, you need to unselect everything, then turn on "Use Baseline Grid" setting in "Text Frame" palette->"Baseline Grid" and then create a text frame.

This is a bug that should be fixed.

Everything I do with a Text Frame on a Master Page is reflected on the regular Pages which has that master applied, everything except changes to the baseline grid, for that to stick I have to reapply the Master Page. This is on Mac 10.14.6 and beta .518

Sorry.

Thank you for reporting a problem using the pre 1.8.0 beta builds. It appears that a member of the Affinity QA team didn't get round to fully investigating this specific report posted in the bugs forums. We are very sorry for this oversight. Yours is one of a number of reports that I am posting this apology to, using an automated script.

Now we have released 1.8.3 on all platforms containing many hundreds of bug fixes, and we hope your problem has already been fully addressed. If you still have this problem in the 1.8.3 release build, then the QA team would really appreciate you reporting again it in the relevant Bugs forum.

Each of those links above contains instructions how best to report a bug to us. If that is what you already did in this thread just copy paste your original report into a new thread. We appreciate all the information that you have including sample files and screen shots to help us replicate your problem.

This thread has now been locked as the QA team are not following the threads to which this automatic reply is made, which is why we would appreciate a new bug report if you are still have this problem in the release build.
