PippiL
I'm trying to get a blending effect I usually do in Pixelmator Pro ( attached sample ). I cannot get the same effect in Affinity. Usually, it is just one step. Image and the overlay>lighten.

PippiL
So sorry, I have no idea what that means, lol. I have tried many ways but it never looks like the Pixelmator one.
dutchshader
In the layerspanel drag the texture layer inside the shape layer, you will see a thin blue line when it is dragged inside. PippiL
Nope. I tried it this way and it is still not working. I will just keep using Pixelmator to change my images. But thanks for trying to help me.
firstdefence
@PippiL I've worked it out, I accidentally turned the background layer off in pixelmator which showed me why Affinity wasn't working as pixelmator does. You need to have a white background, when you have a white background Affinity applies the lighten blend mode as pixelmator does, see image below. Showing how Pixelmator will display the same as Affinity without the white background. PippiL
Yes, it totally makes sense. Good job. Never paid attention to this The only thing is it seems like I don't have a white background to turn on? Another thing to figure out. firstdefence
I assume you are using Affinity Photo,{ but you can do the same thing in Affinity Designer) if so you can use a fill layer (main menu at the top of the affinity app) Layer > New Fill Layer and fill with white and drag it to the bottom of the layer stack or simply create a rectangle filled with white and place it at the bottom of the layer stack. You can make it easier by assigning a keystroke to create a new fill layer, I've assigned mine to SHIFT + CONTROL + F You can assign keystrokes in Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts: see image below. PippiL
I'm using Affinity Designer.
kaffeeundsalz
Affinity Designer doesn't have Fill Layers, but you could just draw a white rectangle and use it in the same way.
