One compelling reason to provide an export of the Resource Manager list is to make a list of photographs used for the purpose of submitting them to the (U.S.) Copyright Office. Not all the photos in the linked File Folder may be used, so that folder may not be a good choice to use to create the list. Ideally, the export will go into a CSV (for use in a spreadsheet) or XLS type of format or even PDF). I'm facing that problem now and have over 800+ photos that I have to manually sift through using the Resource Manager as a basis (eyeballing the list is overwhelming).

The 1.8 beta has a "Collect" function in the Resource Manager that lets you create a folder containing a copy of all the linked and embedded images or documents in that Publisher document. As those are the ones actually used you could use that function and then just look at the files in your new folder.

Note, though, that even the Resource Manager listing may not be complete. It won't include any images or documents that you may have included (linked, or embedded) but that you subsequently rasterized.

Applications work in parallel.

You just need to be careful not to save your work data with beta versions, because then the released version may not open it.

I wanted to outline one reason to use the "collect" function you pointed out.

I have several hundred photos in my document. Before publishing, I have to copyright them in my country (U.S.) in order to protect my rights. They use an electronic upload (similar to a spreadsheet) that requires the File Name and Description of the photo. As I was creating my document, all photos were linked to a folder on the computer. However, some photos in that folder are no longer used or replaced by a new file name. Therefore, the Collect function will be useful in order to list just the photos used in the document for copyright purposes.  It is notable to mention that some photos are third-party photos or free photos and, of course, I have to weed them out since I cannot copyright those.

I had to go through one more technical challenge. I use Lightroom as a cataloging system for the photos. Each photo has a "Caption" or "Title" that describes the photo. It's written to the photo's metadata (embedded into the photo). I can't directly use that caption in the AFPUB document and I can't export the caption from Lightroom either. What to do?

So I installed an EXIF program that allows me to extract the file name and description (from the photos' metadata) in a CSV format - ideal for a spreadsheet.

Thanks again for the Collect function tip - I would have probably missed that had you not mentioned it.
