Hi PippiL,
Sorry for the confusion. I didn't know you were using Affinity Designer and didn't notice the DMG still opened on the sidebar. I'm assuming you have Affinity Designer (or Photo installed) bought from the Affinity Store and are going to File -> Open there to open a file. Anyway it doesn't matter what app you are using as this works the same way for both apps. Usually what you are experiencing (no access to photos from the Media section in Finder) happens when the current Photos's library is not set as the System Photo Library. If you go to Apple Photos, Preferences, General tab you should see a button labelled  Use as System Library (in the Library Locations area on top). It's quite possible it's disabled/greyed out for you - if so, it means the current Apple Photo's library is already set as System Photo Library (as it should if you use it to manage your photos). There's however a bug that prevents it working if you are using the version bought through our store (Affinity Store). That's why i wanted to double-check if you are using in fact that version which seems the case since you have a DMG opened in the sidebar.

Hi PippiL,
Thanks for confirming it. This is a bug that seems to affect all apps sold from our store. It's working fine with the Mac App Store version(s). I've logged this to be looked at. Hopefully we will have a fix for this in an upcoming version.

If you need to work with the files stored in Apple Photos library, export the images (originals) using the command File > Export > Export Unmodified Original for X Photos... (in Apple Photos) to a folder and open them in Affinity Designer using File > Open as usual until this issue is fixed.
