Export persona - slice created from object does not take exact dimensions / position

AD version 1.7.3.481

Hi,

I have to create slices from a weblayout to export jpgs. In this case i have picture frames with linked images in a Publisher document, which are exactly positioned/sized on integer pixel values. To export the images for web, i open the Publisher document in Designer and switch to export persona.

ad-slice-bug-2019-11-12-183112.thumb.jpg.10f650d410bec943a56a2fdd5b854f19.jpg

My typical approach is to select the orginal object in the layers panel and create a new slice by pressing the "new slice (Slice erstellen)" button at the bottom of the layers panel.

Example: the object is 480 x 480 px at position 0 / 1850 px.

ad-slice-bug-2019-11-12-182443.jpg.6d070dab17b03e2cf847ba63358e4d06.jpgad-slice-bug-2019-11-12-182627.jpg.458e9c4717e86ead062159c2dc2bc5be.jpg

Normally when i create a slice from a selected object the slice directly takes the object/layer name and the EXACT dimensions and position of the original object. Even if i select multiple objects/layers and create all slices in a single shot.

But in this case all created slices are some pixels bigger and shifted off.

e.g. the created slice from this object is 482 x 482 px at position -1 / 1849 px

ad-slice-bug-2019-11-12-183114.thumb.jpg.f049b49a65b50bd4778324c9c4dfad34.jpg

I have some other big header images in this document at position 0 / 0 px with 1920 x 1080 px. These images produce slices with exact the original values as expected.

So what's wrong? Is it because this is originaly a Publisher document, or is it about the picture frames?

Unfortunately the slice tool does not snap to any grid or guides, so i have to manually correct all slices in the transform panel.

Lot of workarounds and lost time - again... :-(

Hi 4dimage,

Would it be possible for you to upload the offending file to your internal Dropbox account using the link below so we can investigate please?

Hi Sean,

this is a customer project with some big JPGs linked from a network drive. Would it be OK if I upload only the Publisher document itself - without the image files ? Don't know how to pack it into one zip without relinking the images ?!

That's not a problem! I can replace them here with some place holder ones.

Regarding the packaging that isn't possible, however in 1.8 we're introducing a 'Collect' option in the Resource Manager for Publisher that will collect and relink all the pictures into a single directory.

Hi Sean,

document is uploaded to dropbox. Good luck ;-)

By the way - the collect option in 1.8 will be a great helper :-)

You might check your Preferences in Designer, and make sure that in the User Interface section you've increased the Number of Decimal Places for px measurements to some value greater than 0. I like to specify 3.

It's possible your slices aren't on integer pixel locations, or using integer pixel sizes, which will can cause issues somewhat like you're describing.

Hi Walt,

here are the settings in Designer, the same as in Publisher:

ad-slice-bug-2019-11-13-140427.thumb.jpg.294fef91eb714a1119904b82d8177d38.jpg

And these are the document and snap setting:

ad-slice-bug-2019-11-13-141244.jpg.d8294beb5bfbd9036a6fee6e78282f93.jpgad-slice-bug-2019-11-13-141336.jpg.fb49f18c51eac8229e78440ecb68536f.jpg

To my mind, setting the Pixel digit to 1 is more than enough. To be honest, I hardly never use float positions or dimensions when working for webdesign (force fulll pixels at 72dpi document resolution). And mostly I type in the values in the transform panel to be exact.

I don't think that's the reason for the slice problem. And if it would be so - think of the consequences. This would be a serious overall bug! No matter what's internaly calculated (float), the transform panel MUST always show the real status of the selected object/s so I can rely on this. If it shows an integer it has to be an integer. If not, the transform panel has to show a float value.

Otherwise the transform panel would be worth nothing ?!

Thank you very much for your file. It is the Live Filters that are causing the issues in your file. The larger the radius the more it is pushing the slice size outwards.

I'll get this passed on to development to be fixed.

Thanks again for the file!

That's interesting. Then the effects (unsharp mask) are not cliped by the picture frame boundaries. Hope you can fix this :-)
