Non-square grid snapping messes up between artboards

Version: Noticed in 1.7, but also reproduced in 1.8.0.486 (latest beta)

Bug: Points are snapped to a different grid than what is displayed when using multiple artboards

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new document
  2. Create two Artboards

  3. In View > Grid and Axis Manager, create a two-axis custom grid in the second artboard with angles other than 0 and 90 degrees

  4. Notice that points aren't snapped to the grid displayed

In that scenario snapping to the grid seems to work fine for me, at least in 1.8.0.486.

Do you have any other snapping options enabled? Perhaps, for example, you're also seeing snapping to the artboard midpoints occurring.

Try changing the position of the second artboard.

You can see from this picture that the grid does not move with the second artboard.

But when I change the position of the artboard, the snapping grid moves with it. It might be a mistake in the codebase where the origin of the "displayed" grid is related to the global origin instead of the artboard origin.

Hi lynzrand,

This is indeed the issue, and it something that is already with development to be fixed. I'll get it bumped with your comments. Thanks for letting us know!

We have made fixes/improvements to Artboard grid display in the latest Windows customer beta. Sorry this issue has taken so long to get resolved properly. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version. #when using beta builds, please work on copies of your files, as 1.8.0 uses a more advanced version of the file format than 1.7.3

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update/patch to all customers.
