within an adjustment - let's say levels - once I open it an adjustment box pops out and there are three presets inside - default - darken - lighten - if I click on darken the image that I see does not change - I can do it myself using the pop out box but not by clicking on the preset - same goes for and of the adjustment panels

Hi pedropedro,

That's weird. Do you have only one layer (named Background) in the layers panel and it does nothing when you select one of the presets?

Can you try to reset the application? To do it press and hold ⌃(ctrl) while launching the app, then select Clear from the dialog that will appear.

Does it still behaves the same way?

so I did a reset - opened an image - in the layers there is background then levels adjustment on top - that is highlighted in blue and both levels have a check - when I go to the adjustment panel - levels - and click on darken nothing happens - again I can manually adjust but not able to use the preset as a starting point for example

When you apply a preset from the adjustments panel, Affinity Photo automatically creates the corresponding adjustment layer (named Level adjustments in your example) in the Layers panel. If you double click this layer's thumbnail it should open the Levels dialog where you can manually adjust the Levels.

If you click on one of the presets in the Adjustments panel it should update the Levels Adjustment layer in the Layers panel to reflect that preset. The adjustments are never applied to the image directly. Any chance you can create a videoclip of what you're doing? We must be missing something here...
