carl123
Since both the .afstyles and .zip file you uploaded do not appear to work (I tried both) it's possible they were corrupted when you uploaded them to the forum. This is something that happens to me a lot on this forum and I believe has affected others also. You may want to set up a dropbox or wetransfer link for those people that would still like to download the files At the very least it could eliminate (or confirm) this forum as being the source of the problem. PS Never allow a few users to get to you on a forum, your uploads are appreciated by far more users than them LyricsGirl, A_B_C and Move Along People 2 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. A_B_C
I was sorry to see how this thread spiralled out of control. Personally, I would love to use these styles. The holidays are approaching way to fast, after all … I would probably want to suggest that we should make this into a bug report. I tried to install the styles, but I ended up with the same error message on macOS Sierra 10.12.6, latest version of Affinity Suite. So there must be a bug in the export algorithm, which would be, in my opinion, worthwhile to have investigated by the team. So rather than getting mad at each other, we should try to get down to the bottom of the issue. I’ll post a bug report re-uploading your file, @LyricsGirl. Hope you don’t mind. A_B_C
I created a bug report for this. Unfortunately, the .afstyles format is proprietary, so there is no way on the user’s end to validate a file in this format other than by importing. Staff Sean P Posted November 4, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 4, 2019 Hi LyricsGirl, Would you be able to create a completely new export out of Affinity and then zip that file straight up and attach it please? Would you be able to zip up and upload a copy of your %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\ folder to our internal Dropbox account using the link below please?https://www.dropbox.com/request/bCiZuHqEjL2KkRYQBQ6i It sounds as though your internet connection may have been a bit temperamental, as both the zip and afstyles file you uploaded couldn't be opened on Windows or Mac. Madame
@LyricsGirl I’m sorry to have caused so much commotion. I was just trying to be helpful when I told you I couldn’t open the file. As for "security reasons", I found this:"Actually did figure that out in the end… that happens when the zip archive is pass-protected and the default utility doesn’t pop out the option to enter a password as programs like BetterZip and other do. So the whole problem got solved when I didn’t just double-clicked the archive but when I opened it with a program that supported pass-protected archives.Of course if you forgot the pass of an archive you pass protected in the past (when sent to someone or for own safe keeping) then you are pretty much screwed since there aren’t easy ways to recover that archive’s password" As English isn’t my first language, (nor is computing) I’m not sure if I understood this correct? That this could be the reason? That I don’t have the right unzip.programme? I’m sure this would be useful for you to know if you will sell your products later. Thank you A_B_C for your posting. This actually makes sense that forums users were experiencing problems while the Group members on a Face Book group where I also uploaded the files to, did NOT experience problems. I have now created a NEW style set from Affinity Photo Ver 1.7.3 and uploaded them to a GOOGLE DRIVE in the hopes that forum users will be able to successfully import the Candy Cane styles. I have also included all the textures in either JPG or PNG format as well as one sample of what final textures you can create from them. I have also messaged one forum member privately as I feel that is how any negative or personal discussions should be handles, not publicly for all to see. I have been upset over what was meant as a Goodwill Gesture. I will NOT comment further on this thread. Thank you. A_B_C
Thank you so much, @LyricsGirl … now the styles are imported perfectly. So @carl123’s guess was spot on. There was a persistent problem with the forum uploader. Great this isn’t a style export problem. Thank you again! LyricsGirl
