Hyperlink practicalities - advice sought and suggestions/advice?

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has already been covered (I have had a browse through the forums), but I am a recent Affinity Publisher user, and trying (painfully slowly it seems) to migrate from InDesign, and have come unstuck with hyperlink usage...

I am trying to insert hyperlinks at the beginning/index of a document which jump to specific pages, which seems an easy ask, but...

(1)  When I open the hyperlinks tab/panel, none of the hyperlinks I've created (which are all 'jump to page x' types) seem to appear?  Have I missed something?

(2)  How do I set up a hotkey which'll allow me to 'Insert Hyperlink' once I've selected the relevant text and/or box/graphic?

(1) Did you select something, when you were inserting the hyperlink? Just to be sure.

(2) Preferences -> Shortcuts -> Select Text from the lower pulldown and look for the entry to insert hyperlinks. There type in your desired shortcut.

Hi, Joachim. Thanx for the 2nd one - that worked fine. Much appreciated.

However, having set up all the hyperlinks on the Index page, when I click View > Studio > Hyperlinks, the tab that opens doesn't show any hyperlinks at all, even when I click on the index page and/or the pages being linked to... I expected it to show me a list of them all, so I can directly edit them if the destination page number, etc. might change?  If I highlight the hyperlink when this tab is open, nothing happens or changes.

The other thing I can't see is a way of directly deleting anchors - I started setting up a couple of anchors before I realised this wasn't necessary, but there's no easy way to delete them again...?

To make it easier for you: Menu Text -> Highlight Fields. Now you see the anchors. Click with the text cursor into the middle of the anchor and hit the delete button.

For your other problems: Could you post the Publisher file here, so others can have a look as well?

Your links are all there. But the text with the hyperlinks sits in a text frame coming from a Master Page. In the Layers panel for page 2 click the "Master" layer, click Detached from your toolbar and move the layer with the hyperlinks to the normal layers above. After that, click Finish in the toolbar.

Thank you soo much, that seems to have fixed it -- what a very strange state of affairs...

Can they not just add a more practical and straightforward  <right-click on page/spread> and "Override Master" function that 'detaches' it, rather than just restricting us to Apply Master and Clear Master options?  Bizarre.

Thanks again for your patience and support - super helpful and very much appreciated!
