Studiolink - mac - all programs - won't connect

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm very new to the full suite of software, I bought them all on release and now in a position to get started using them all.

I've started with Publish, which was purchased via the Affinity site, for Mac. It is running version 1.7.1.

I've tried to use Studiolink to connect both Photo and Designer but I get the following screen:

Both Designer and Photo are running version 1.7.1 and can be opened independently.

I purchased these two programs from the App Store.

Can someone please advise what I should do?

Many thanks

Terri

Hi dirtyepic,

Welcome to the forums :)

Firstly, the latest versions of the app is 1.7.3 - we always recommend downloading the latest updates when possible.

To update Photo/Designer please open the Mac App Store and go to the Updates page. If you still can't see the updates, please go to Store>Reload Page from the top menu, the updates should now show.

To update Publisher, please open the following link and download version 1.7.3, then follow the onscreen installation instructions - https://store.serif.com/update/macos/publisher/1/

After this is done and all apps are running version 1.7.3 you will also need to run each of the apps at least once before reopening Affinity Publisher to access the StudioLink feature. If StudioLink still doesn't work, please make sure that all Affinity apps ( Publisher, Photo & Designer ) are in the root of the Applications folder.

I hope this helps!

Hi!

Thanks so much for your quick response.

I've updated Publisher, no problems at all.

Now I don't know if this is a mac OS issue, as I recently installed the latest, but the App store says I have no outstanding downloads but when I check on the Affinity Photo app page, it does say it's the newer version. When I go to install it, I get a message saying I must rename or move the Affinity Photo from my applications folder and try again. Is this a new process as I can't remember ever having to do this previously. Do I move the whole folder?

Thanks in advance

Terri

Thanks for letting me know, this certainly shouldn't be necessary. Could you please open Affinity Photo and go to Affinity Photo>About and let me know which version number is shown here?

Thanks for that, I've checked your Affinity Store account and I'm certain the app has been purchased through the Mac App Store - so I'm sorry to see your updates aren't showing.

Could you please open the Mac App Store and Sign out of your Apple account, then Restart your Mac and reopen the Mac App Store. Sign in to your account and navigate to Updates. Are they now showing as expected?

Hi Dan,

It's still saying that I've no new updates.

Thanks for that Terri, could you please confirm:

What version of Mac OS are you running?

When you navigate to the Affinity Photo Mac App Store page, do you see an Open option, or only Install?

Have you previously downloaded any beta versions?

Is it possible you purchased the app through a different Apple account?

Hi Dan,

1. I'm using OS 10.15 - Catalina

2. It's actually as if I'm downloading from the cloud.

3. I've never downloaded a beta version.

4. No, all of the apps have been purchased using my itunes account although, this year, I have had to change my email address from a hotmail to a gmail address. This address is also used on my Affinity account.

Thanks

Terri

Thanks for that Terri - I'm not 100% certain how but it appears as though your Mac App Store has become delinked from the app install, as it shows in your screenshot the latest version of 1.7.3.

Please can you open your Applications folder and move Affinity Photo to another location on your Mac, for example your desktop. Then open the Mac App Store and install the app using the Cloud icon. Does this install 1.7.3? If so, I recommend backing up any important brushes/styles etc and removing the old copy from your Mac Desktop.

Cheers Dan,

I'll give it a go, in the morning!

Thanks so much for all of your advice today.
