Brunswick83
The freezes I reported in a previous post have continued to occur. My pc is an Intel NUC with an i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM. According to the Intel system scanning app, all my drivers are up to date. Today I tried a focus merge for the first time. With a merge of 5x20 MPixel images, it crashes every time. As with other Affinity crashes, the pc locks up completely - mouse cursor won't move, no response to keyboard. The only solution I can find is a hard restart (ie push and hold the power button). No other software that I have does this (and when I had Lightroom, that didn't do it either). It appears that Affinity Photo is effectively useless to me. Brunswick83
What do you mean by "You didn't even answer dev in the original thread". Who is dev? Is that DWright? If so, I did respond to the question regarding the specs of my pc, in fact you have quoted my reply. Having provided those specs (the next day), I got no further response - that's the reason for the new thread. Rather than arguing about the process for posting, it would be great if someone could actually offer some help.

Creating new context-lost threads will certainly not help to solve the problem. carl123
Check your Windows event logs immediately after the next crash to see any clues as to what caused it. firstdefence
Other windows related issues are Antivirus software being overly zealous, other apps running in the background eating resources, scheduled tasks and windows and it's auto updating resource hog. All of these things you should look at and if possible disable as probable clashes with Affinity. I know you shouldn't 'have' to but such is the route of system diagnoses. Maybe run a Defrag, and a CHKDSK as well just things to do to rule out issues so that the issue can be focused in on. Brunswick83
Thanks for the two relevant responses. Unfortunately I'm not an IT professional and my skills are not up to conducting such an esoteric diagnosis. As you say, firstdefence, I shouldn't have to, particularly given that this problem does not occur with any other software. The obvious solution is to cut my losses with Affinity, uninstall it, and get another, more stable, photo editing package.

Just as you were prompted in the original thread, just run the Resource Monitor *) and when the PC locks, so take a screenshot. *) Personally I would start with a Performance Monitor (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-performance-monitor-windows-10), and only then (https://www.thewindowsclub.com/use-resource-monitor-windows-10).
