Problems with "Read Only" Files

Recommended Posts

Hi. Has anyone experienced problems with files opening as "Read Only?" I can work on a file, let's say from RAW, do a "save as" and close it. When I re-open it, there have been many occasions when the file opens as read only and I have to do another "save as." I should point out that I've set the security system so that I have no problem with editing and so on. Any ideas/suggestions will be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Hi. Thanks for the response.

The files are being saved to my secondary internal drive. It has just happened again. I opened the file, did an alteration, saved it with no problem, made a further adjustment and it would only save if I "saved as," which apart from being annoying, means I end up with copies of the same image all with slightly different titles.

Best regards.

Mac or Windows?

And what do you mean by setting the security system so you shouldn't have any problem editing?

Hi,

This may not be related but needing to use "save as" as the file is read only has happened quite a few times to me in general not just when using Affinity.

For me, this problems occurs on my Windows computer due to a bug in Preview Pane. It occurs if you have preview pane turned on when opening a file from Windows Explorer. In this case, the file will open as read only and will not let you just save. You need to use save as. If I realise what has happened, I close the file before working in it and go back to Windows Explorer and close Preview Pane (under View menu) and reopen the file with no issue.

I now make it a habit to turn off Preview Pane when I have finished previewing files so I avoid this issue.

I hope this helps if it is the cause. Good luck.
