Keyboard Shortcut for "Edit Detached"

Recommended Posts

Coming from InDesign I use Master Pages as a foundation but then customize them on the go. Unfortunately the "Edit Detached" mode cannot be invoked by a keyboard shortcut. Nor can it be closed by one (button "Finish"). Having a shortcut for this would be very helpful.

Maybe it would be smart for us to start a topic where users can add their most wished for keyboard shortcuts. Adding shortcuts (or the possibility to assign them to more functions) would probably not cost Serif much resources, but it would improve productivity tremendously.

"Edit Detached" requires that you first select a Master Page layer. I'm not convinced that having a keyboard shortcut would be very helpful there given that you'll need a mouse click to select the layer first, anyway.

And don't forget that a page could have multiple Masters applied, so it's not good enough to say that Publisher can infer which layer to select when the key is pressed.

True, but in a large number of cases it may only have one, so the shortcut could be effective only when on a page or master which has a single master applied to it, for example (and just beep if there is more than one and the user hasn't selected one).

No click: If one navigates through layers with the keyboard then a shortcut can be quite useful.

However, I'd prefer to have global layers to completely avoid the need to detach for defining the layers hierarchy.
