Show recent X documents on the startup panel

Recommended Posts

When opening any Affinity product you see the startup panel (if enabled). I think it's great to see links to tutorials, samples, key links etc.

...but, I often open the app and immediately go to File > Open Recent. If the most recent 10 that appear in the menu could be added to the panel I think it would be a great addition and timesaver.

(I'm assuming that I'm not the only person who has this use case - would love to see some upvotes if others would also like this!)

I think I’ve seen this request before but I can’t be sure.
It might be nice to have a thumbnail view of the last nine (grid of nine might fit nicer than a grid of ten) documents edited instead of the adverts.
It’s worth noting that there’s a “Reopen document on startup” option in Preferences/General which might be useful to some people.

You remember this correctly. It popped up several times but never found much comments. I'm not saying it's not a useful request :)

Ah, I should have searched for it! **facepalm**

Just to expand - open last document might be useful, but I typically have about a dozen or so files "active" at a time. I might not always want to re-open the most recent file I edited.

Thumbnails would be a nice addition, although not a deal-breaker for me as I can normally find the file easily by filename alone.

Never mind. It's sometimes not easy to find what one is looking for here in the forum.

BTW, I should have send you a 'welcome to the forum' first. So, welcome to the forum :)

That's why it's better to use Google search directly: "Recent Welcome site:forum.affinity.serif.com"

Thanks for the tip. I haven't tried it this way.

But I am also referring to the search terms themselfs. Sometimes it's hard to know the commonly used key words on certain topics. A prominent example may be 'DAM'. You have to know about the abbreviation if you are looking for 'picture management'.

I'll try with Google the next time :)

Cheers,

  • 8 months later...

I find myself wishing for this every time I open the app. I either get a promo panel, which I close and go to recents, or if I disable that I am greeted with a big empty blank space.

It would improve the user experience on startup to at least have the OPTION of showing thumbnails or recent projects, with a "or create new empty" button as well.
