Did a Stupid—But WHAT?? AFFINITY PHOTO.

Recommended Posts

Simple situation. I am editing a photo of an elk to removal all the detail that is not “elk” and replacing it with solid black. Began by creating a pixel layer with mask and then painting in the entire canvas with black (after turning off the selection layer, of course).

The last adjustment I was then able to make was a minor clone correction. Now, despite my best efforts, I am unable to perform any further edits, What on earth could I have done to get myself into this mess?

Thanks, guys!

When cloning I find it useful to add a pixel layer, select the pixel layer and the clone tool. In context menu change it to current layer and below. Any items you clone will be painted onto the pixel layer. You can turn off the pixel layer to see what the original is like, or simply delete it and start again.

As to not being able to edit further? Odd, as long as it is still a pixel layer you should be able to edit it. Perhaps post a screen recording to show what is happening?

Hi @Sid007,

Another way you can do this is to add a pixel layer below the elk photo and fill this with black then select the elk and then add a new mask layer and the selected elk will appear above the black pixel layer

DM1, you make several very sound suggestions here and I will put them to use right away.  In the interim, I got around the “freeze up” by moving back in the history until I got to the point where the anomaly manifested. A cursory look at the next steps gave no clue as to its cause.

DWright, good idea for another reason, as well, that will preserve the original background layer.

Many thanks, fellas, I am greatly appreciative of your support.
