qwasian
Has anyone had any joy opening Freehand files with Affinity?
rui_mac
Yes, I opened some. They need to have .fh10 or .fh11 extensions. qwasian
Staff MattP Posted September 3, 2014 Staff Share Posted September 3, 2014 We're working on .fh9 files at the moment and we also need to support text properly - we're nearly there with it, but other things have the priority at present. qwasian
10on12
Just a quick heads-up. Freehand MX (FH11) files exported to PDF open almost perfectly in Affinity. All the text remains editable which is wonderful!
Gunnar
Hi,We need to open allot of FH11 files and work with the text, can you tell when, or if, that will be available soon? Gunnar
Staff MattP Posted December 15, 2014 Staff Share Posted December 15, 2014 Hi Gunnar, I don't think that text in Freehand files is likely to be ready any time soon - there are so many other more important things that need to work properly first, that for most users it's not at the top of their list, unfortunately. It'll definitely get there one day, but it needs a lot of time looking at it - don't forget that we don't have any way of importing these files other than looking at the bits in the files we have and seeing if we can work out which bit means which thing, and when you're dealing with text there are a lot of properties and it's going to be difficult to get them all right... and even then, it'll be more work to make the text flow correctly considering we have a different text layout engine to the one Freehand used. Basically, it will get done, but it is by no means a small undertaking and the graphical import of Freehand content was far more widely requested so this is why it was completed more quickly. Thanks, Matt 000
