icons, glyphs Commercial use

Recommended Posts

You should be able to use those icons commercially: buying a licence allows for commercial use of Affinity software so ergo the icons already available by the app as assets are there for personal and commercial use.

I am not so sure that is true. For one thing, the Affinity license includes the following:

Quote

Where you use the Serif Software to display or access Content, you acknowledge that the Content may be owned by third parties, may be protected by copyright and/or other intellectual property rights and may be subject to conditions of use. Other than as expressly set out in this Licence, you are not granted any rights to use such Content and no representation is made that any Content will continue to be made available to you. Serif is not responsible for any third party Content and any access to it provided by Serif is provided solely as a convenience and the provision of such access does not imply any endorsement by Serif.

For another, many of the iOS assets use one or more of the Apple SF fonts, which can be downloaded from Apple's developer web site. However, the licenses for them includes the following:

Quote

Limited License. Subject to the terms of this License, you may use the Apple Font solely for creating mock-ups of user interfaces to be used in software products running on Apple’s iOS, iPadOS, macOS or tvOS operating systems, as applicable. The foregoing right includes the right to show the Apple Font in screen shots, images, mock-ups or other depictions, digital and/or print, of such software products running solely on iOS, iPadOS, macOS or tvOS. Your use of the Apple Font shall also be subject to any specific use restrictions with respect thereto as set forth in the Apple Font or Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.

You may use this Apple Font only for the purposes described in this License and only if you are a registered Apple Developer, or as otherwise expressly permitted by Apple in writing.

I have not checked the licenses for the other iOS assets but SF Symbols (also downloadable from the developer web site) has very similar license restrictions.

I'm sure a definitive answer can be sought from a mod but it makes no sense to have icons included by default in an app used by amateurs and professionals alike and they not be able to be used commercially.

Maybe it doesn't make any sense but at least for the SP fonts included in some of the iOS Assets Apple's licensing restrictions are very clear -- to install those fonts from the dmg download, you have to agree to those terms to install them, just like for most of Apple's other stuff.
