  1. Hi, Affinity Team. I have a suggestion for a program of Affinity series. A program of Animation frame by frame. I'd love to that idea. I hope you like! Yours sincerely, Lucas.
  2. Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform. Product Name | Platform | Beta Ver. | ====================|====================|===========| Affinity Designer | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | n/a | Affinity Photo | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | n/a | Affinity Publisher | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.7.3.475 | Please see the last post in this thread for links to posts announcing these beta builds. Those pinned posts have download links to the beta software. Windows Customer Betas require you to be an owner of the paid for version of the software to work. You either need to have the software installed on the same computer as the customer beta OR if you bought direct from the affinity.store website you can provide the product key to activate the beta. If you would like to try the Windows Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums: Affinity Designer beta for Windows Affinity Photo beta for Windows Before we launch Affinity Publisher, if you are interested in trying Publisher please add a download to your store account here . The pre-release download is free and available for anyone to see if this new application will be right for you. Also keep an eye on the top pinned thread in these beta forums, for news of fixes, new file formats and additional features and early access to new build download links. Affinity Publisher beta for Windows Windows build numbers and Mac builds are technically independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other. We will update/edit this post as new Windows Beta releases are added by the developers, so the version numbers should always be right. We will also post to the bottom of the thread so the forum sends a notification to anyone who wants one This thread is locked and will only be posted to by Serif Staff when the beta release versions are updated. Please follow this thread if you want to know about future version changes. If you think this post has got behind announcing the Windows beta updates and needs updating please PM me.
  3. Hi Serif, it looks like the issue I reported back in March was fixed just partially. The same issue occurs when trying to zoom when using the Mesh Warp Tool - see the screencast below. Thanks for a fix in advance.
  4. Hello. I searched for delayed typing and couldn't see any other postings in 3 pages. I'm just starting to learn Publisher and I noticed that when I type there is a large delay in the text coming out and I can't record with OBS to show. I have to type and wait for the letters to display for about 3 to 5 seconds after I type them. I only have been doing a few words at a time with the delay and it is severely slowing me down. My document isn't complicated and I only have a single image. I have to wait about five seconds for this to finish typing itself out: "This sentence takes about five seconds to fill in after I stop typing." I noticed that Publisher and Photo use a very large percent of CPU even when they were both minimized and hadn't been used in a few minutes, and Publisher was the same once when I had it open but wasn't interacting with it. I should have plenty of horsepower, and haven't installed any fonts yet. Thank you for your help. System: Dell XPS 15 9570, Windows 10 Pro v10.0.17134 Build 17134, Core i& 8750H, 32GB RAM
  5. Hi there, I am using the Affinity suite on Windows 10 and currently have to deal with an very annoying GUI issue. Since I use a 4k monitor, my windows uses a desktop scaling factor of 150%. Sadly, Affinity, doesn't seem to respect that entirely and displays tool buttons in a very tiny way that makes it nearly impossible for me to use them. Is there any scale setting that I could use to force scaling of this part of the UI here?

  7. With photo version 1.7.2 (Windows), dialog boxes for adjustment layers open in the lower right corner of the image area. However, if I attempt to move them, they snap to the very top of the screen. When I attempt to move them from this position, they immediately snap back to the top of the screen. However, if I move them to a separate monitor, they stay where I move them. The same is true for live filter dialogs.

  9. When I watch video training, I note that the dialogs on the Mac are different from those on Windows. Would it be possible to post a list of the differences and an explanation as to why? Thanks, -dmd-
  10. Hello! Found an unpleasant permanent bug. If you have several arbords (there can be a lot of them in a real project) So if you move (for example, by chance) the left upper artboard (apparently from which other artboards begin to receive coordinates), then everything breaks down, all artboards get fractional values of their coordinates. Now I know this pattern, and I struggle with it like this: 1. I create an empty artboard on the left somewhere, block it 2. All the other arbords I create right / below it affinity 1.7.0.367 win Watch the video artboard_fail.mp4

  12. Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to pan the canvas with my finger. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which has a touch screen. I also use Phase One Capture One and Clip Studio Paint. Within both of these applications you can pan the canvas with your finger without needing to change tools. This is a quick and natural gesture, it does not matter what tool is selected and does not require any modification key presses, nor does it require I remove my pen away from its hover state. For clarification, the finger is for panning and the pen or mouse is used for brushing. Does Affinity Photo for Windows 10 offer this feature as I've explained? Is this a feature being looked into for inclusion? Thanks.
  13. I'm on Affinity Photo v.1.7.1.404 with Windows 10.1093. For the last week or two, I've noticed that I can't open my older .afphoto files (not older than 1.6) anymore that have layers in them. I have stored most on an external hard drive. I've tested trying to copy to C: drive, but I get the same fault. On clicking open, the attached error messages flashes across the image, which I can see is loaded in the background. The dialogue closes and the file remains unopened. Please assist asap as I need access to my work.
  14. My main computer is a Windows 10nmachine attached to which I have a synology network attached storage. My main processing and document storage including backup is handled by the above. I also use an iPad Pro which is wonderful for when off site. Transferring files, especially large .afphoto type files is a tedious business. My current solution is to go via a small amount of ipad cloud and use the windows icloud app. But I also use Luma Fusion as a video editor on my iPad. That can open files from and save files to the windows/synology system over wifi. It is much cleaner and quicker. Could the same be done for Affinity Products? I understand the audioshare iPad app has a similar capability Regards Graham Rabbitts
  15. When I try to use Publisher I find a properties box gets stuck to the top left corner, obscuring the file menu option. I try to drag it using the mouse but it will not move. some times part of the box is off the top of the screen. Resizing Publisher or dragging Publisher to my other screen has no effect. How do I deal with this?
  16. I'm running Affinity Designer 1.5.1.43 on Windows 10 and it is freezing up constantly. About once per minute it'll freeze for maybe 3-4 seconds and then everything goes back to normal. When it freezes Designer will use about 50% of the CPU capacity for the duration of the freeze. I would assume my computer's CPU simply isn't powerful enough, but Designer regularly uses up to 90% of the CPU capacity with no problems. Also this was never a problem before (same computer, same files). It's been about a month since I last used Designer. This problem started last week when I opened it up and updated to the latest version. System specs: Windows 10 64-bit Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz dual core 8GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 256GB SSD Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.
  17. I own both Affinity Designer and Photo on Windows and am looking to buy Publisher. Affinity Photo was bought through the Microsoft Store and Designer was bought directly from Serif's webshop. I was wondering if buying Publisher from the Microsoft Store would still let StudioLink work with Designer given that it isn't from the Microsoft Store also?
  18. We are pleased to announce a major update for the Windows release of Affinity Designer, version 1.7.1 Changes in this Build The changes in Affinity Designer 1.7.1 (for Windows) over the recent release Affinity Designer 1.7.0 are as follows: Support for multi-page Affinity Publisher documents Fixed sporadic crash with HSL range control Removed limits to shadows highlights effects Avoid over saturated shadows and washed out highlights New curve for highlights filter applied to bounded pixel formats Remap shadows and highlights slider ranges Fixed hang when scrolling through Slices panel Fixed custom panel height being reset on app start Fixed Gradient Colour selection closing popup immediately Reduced file sizes when starting from/inserting an image Fixed crash when pressing Esc during a floating panel drag Removed resize gripper when the Status bar is visible Added double click to Assign/Convert profile dialog Fixed Column guides colour > Tint slider not working Added Save over imported PSD files Fixed Scale with Object causing stroke size to be incorrectly reflected in the Appearance panel Fixed Symbol unlinked orange dashed line not showing up for unlinked symbols Fixed 32-Bit Preview panel being clippedwhen upgrading from 1.6 Fixed CMYK Colour profile setting the Grey profile to empty Fixed Noise not being applied on a gradient stop colour Fixed crashes in History and Layers panel Fixed brush preview outline still present when colour picking with Alt+click Enabled Resize document to work withphysical units Fixed EPS "Export text as curves" checkbox being disabled Fixed PDF export of RGB documents in greyscale documents Fixed sporadic crash on print Added preference for opening documents in a new floating container Fixed Adjustments thumbnails in the Layers panel are not being updated Fixed failure in 1.7.0 to read custom keyboard shortcuts. Changes in 1.7.0 (Since 1.6.5) The changes in Affinity Designer for Windows 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Designer patch 1.6.5 are as follows: Tools We've overhauled most of the core tools, adding subtle new features to make you more productive. New Point Transform Tool allows you to scale and rotate objects from any node. The Node Tool now contains a 'Transform Node' option which provides a containing box for the selected nodes and allows for more freeform editing of the nodes. New 'Cube' grid setup mode (take a look in 'View' -> 'Grid and Axis Manager...'). Pen tool now has a 'rubber band' mode and also a mode to allow future curves to be added to the current object's curves (for example, the character 'a' is constructed of two curves in a single 'curve object' and this mode makes that construction simpler). Node tool can now auto-snap nodes if you drag a node from one curve over the top of a node from another (selected) curve and pause, it will offer to snap to the same geometry as the node you're hovering over (ie, modify the on and off-curve nodes to match). This is really useful for trying to reconstruct areas of one curve from another curve. Node tool now allows for lasso selection of nodes by holding the Alt/Option key and dragging a selection lasso. Pencil tool now offers a 'sculpt' mode that allows for extending or manipulating curves in a more natural way. More to come in this area soon. Many tools now allow for 'Alignment widgets' which you can toggle the visibility of in the context toolbar. When enabled you can visually adjust the alignment or even, for example, 'align to centre, snapped to the left edge of this object' by simply click/dragging. Fill tool correctly allows editing of skewed fill handles and newly-created skewed fills draw much nicer now. Ruler origin can be edited by simply dragging the area where the rulers intersect each other - it can even be snapped onto objects in the document. Guides can be edited in most tools by simply dragging a guide in the ruler area. Grid setup is now more interactive: origin can be dragged, axis scale adjusted and angle adjusted on-document, complete with snapping to objects and angles in the document to help you reconstruct useful grids from finished artworks or sketches. By enabling 'Edit in Plane' on the new Isometric Panel, tools can edit objects and appear to make those edits along the currently active plane - extremely useful for artists who enjoy working with any axonometric projections. You can now drag the rotation centre point (when enabled on the context toolbar) while holding Ctrl and it will translate the object - this is actually very useful for positioning and snapping objects relative to others. Shapes tools now have presets so you can create your own favourite shape setups and more easily use them again. There are just far too many subtle tool changes to mention here, but hopefully you'll find the tools much improved General Arrowheads are now available in the Stroke Panel. New Appearance Panel allows for multiple strokes and fills on a single shape. HDR / EDR monitor support New brushes, styles and assets are now shipped with the product. Visible bleed (accessed from the View menu) so you can more easily design into the bleed area - a common feature request. “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Designer will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. New 'Isometric Panel' makes it easy to setup and work with various axonometric projections within the application. HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Designer. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. Designer now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. Layers Panel now allows you to tag individual layers with a colour and display thumbnails with transparent backgrounds and at different sizes. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quickly clipping/unclipping. New "Merge curves/Separate curves" commands. Grids now have an editable number of angle subdivisions. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features such as bullets and numbering. Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Improved Freehand import slightly - failing to read all of a file shouldn't force it to produce a 'failed to load' response, instead we just load the bits that we *could* read New splash screen and Persona icons Brushes Designer 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any raster brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All pixel brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Adjustments The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. 19. all was fine from the beginning i installed publisher. then i updated to the last beta version and everything turned out fine, too! i was working on some projects with no problem. but since some days publisher crashes very often when i want to start the app. i was guessing a fontcache problem because every time the program was starting i saw the welcome window saying it's loading the fonts. but short time after that the app was crashing. i deleted the cache from time to time and sometimes it helped... but it didn't solve the problem at the end. 2 times i was putting away the prefs to start fresh- guess what! no deal! one week ago i updated to WIN10 1903. don't know whether this has anything to do with it. i put the last DMP files to this notice. c81cac41-9002-43ce-94f7-d5e591517e88-dump.dmp 46331f14-fe33-4de0-a512-6fae575f98a5.dmp

Changes in 1.7.0 since 1.6.5 The changes in Affinity Photo for Windows 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Photo patch 1.6.5 (1.6.5 PK) are as follows: EDR Added support for EDR displays to Photo. When editing a 32-bit document. Brushes Photo 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. The brush engine in Photo has been improved. All brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Fixed ABR brush import (would ignore "random" controllers). RAW The RAW processing engine in Photo has been rewritten - producing better results and improved performance. RAW files now load much more quickly. Reimplemented support for XTrans sensors. The denoise algorithm has been rewritten. It produces better results and takes advantage of the new GPU architecture. Hot pixel removal is now automatically performed by the Serif Labs engine. Profiled lens correction are more stable, apply more quickly, and can be toggled in the Develop UI. The histogram in the Develop persona is now presented in the output colour space - as opposed to always being linear. Develop now respects the output profile when previewing. Show which autofocus rectangles were in focus and which were selected by the camera (yellow, green respectively). A large number of new cameras are supported for RAW development (we will provide a list of the new supported cameras as soon as possible!). Filters New “Procedural Texture” filter with advanced presets support. New “Voronoi” filter. Denoise, Clarity and Shadows / Highlights filters have been rewritten (using technology from the Develop Persona). More filters are now available as Live Filters - including the new Procedural Texture filter. Live filters have been rewritten to improve performance - especially when multiple filters are used in a document. Improved Polar to Rectangular and Rectangular to Polar filters. Added round dot type to the halftone filter. New “Lens Correction” filter - apply lens correction from the built-in lens database. Bilateral blur accuracy improvements. Layers Layers Panel - added option for transparent background for thumbnails. Layers Panel - added multiple thumbnail size options. Layers Panel- added ability to tag layers with a colour - including PSD round-trip. Allow adding an empty group from the Layer menu. New “Duplicate Selection” item in Layer menu (old behaviour). Duplicate now duplicate the whole layer ignoring pixel selection. Alt / Option is now used to make a pixel selection from layer luminance. You can now also hold shift to add the result to the current selection. Hide / Show / Show All Layers options in layers menu. Ability to either rasterise or rasterise and trim a layer. Previously recorded macros will trim. Selections Significant improvements to selection refinement. When using selection tools with no pixel selection, default to New / Add as appropriate. Added “Alpha Similarity” to Select Sampled Colour tool. Tools Grouped tool shortcuts now default to needing the shift key held to cycle (option in preferences). The Crop tool has been rewritten - it now supports resolution changes, absolute pixel size and has a much improved preset mechanism. The Sponge Brush tool now gives more correct / pleasant results. Allow brush rotate / size key changes while dragging. Added a “Reveal Canvas” checkbox to the crop tool - defaults to off. Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool. A general tools overhaul has been performed - providing editing of grids, guides, page origin, across multiple tools (not just in the Move tool) Patch tool now supports arrow keys for rotate / scale. All brush tools can now be axis constrained once brush has started - not just the pixel tool. History “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Photo will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. The History page now has an “advanced” mode - which shows thumbnails and time info. I/O HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Photo. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. TIFF export now has user selectable compression method. Added support for 12bit TIFF files. Introduced new metadata mining - completely rewritten to improve performance, flexibility and correctness. Metadata is now dynamically synchronised with your document - so if you resize then export, the values will be correct. Added Focal Length to metadata summary view. Added a button in general preferences to open a folder from which Photo will read LensFun-style XML files - if users wish to add / experiment with their own lens profiles. Support 16bit CMYK TIFF import. General New ability to control how macros are scaled / aligned when playing back. Added an “Assets” panel to Photo. New cube setup mode for grids. Add “Fill with Primary / Secondary” to the Edit menu for fast access. The batch process dialog now fully supports expressions for height and width - available constants are “w”, “h” and “dpi”. “Lock guides” added to menus. Support for drag dropping .afstyles into Photo. Support for drag dropping .afpalette into Photo. Photo now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quick operations on clipping masks etc. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. New provider options have been added to the stock panel - support for Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay. All of these providers offer full-resolution stock imagery which is free to use. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features. Significant stability improvements when working on non-local files (network shares, USB drives, etc.). Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Huge macro and batch processing improvements. New welcome screen layout and all new samples. Numerous other bug fixes - too many to list!? 21. I've just started the trial for Affinity Photo, having heard a lot of good things about it, and I've been loving it for the most part except for the fact that in several areas it's destroying my workflow and efficiency, so I wanted to ask if I'm doing things wrong being used to Photoshop and all that. I'm working and testing Affinity Photo on an 8MP pixel art image, and I've noticed that compared to the file import on Photoshop the result is quite blurry (see attachment). After some fiddling around I found out that on AP the problem comes from drag & dropping the image on the canvas: if I drag & drop the file it turns out like the chest in the right half; if I place the file it turns out like the one in the left half. Both are at their native resolution, and both are imported as Images. Opening the menu and selecting place for every single asset is quite lengthy and workflow destructive. Is there a way to emulate the placement while drag & dropping from the file manager? Shouldn't it work the same way? Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? The 2nd most damning problem I have is with the clone tool: I'm working on a very structured file with hundreds of layers and subgroups, and one of the feature I used the most in Photoshop is the clone tool mode that allows selection from all layers, both above and below the currently active layer. Is this a feature that can be added in AP? Addendum 2: while working on it some more I noticed another pretty damning issue while working with pixel art. Applying a rotation to any object it starts getting blurry due to the diagonal approximation, but the ridiculous thing is that in 90° the image doesn't get back to crisp, only 180°. So, while in theory a turn left/right shouldn't involve any resampling, it actually does, which is quite problematic. (Solution to this seems to be View > Snapping Manager > Enable snapping and Force pixel alignment, though it still feels kind of wrong to interpolate on simple 90° turns?) Addendum 1: is there a way, while drag & dropping files into the canvas, to automatically place it in the current group/subgroup instead of automatically place it as the top layer? That's another thing that works while Place'ing, but doesn't while dragging files from Explorer (didn't test it on a Mac yet, I don't know if the behaviour also happens with Finder). Finally, not really related to pixel art, is a question related to PDFs. In Photoshop while importing from a PDF you have a thumbnail preview of the pages where you can select them and then import those pages only. I see that AP can do mostly the same but has no thumbnail available, so the user must know the page range beforehand. Is there a way to do it on the fly while visually scanning the document or do I have to stick to CS6 for that? I'm loving AP so far, with these couple exceptions: it runs butter smooth, is very efficient, tries to stay out of the way during creative work… everything I was looking for!
  22. I have a Windows 10 laptop with a 7th gen Intel i5 CPU, an NVIDIA GTX 1050 GPU, and 8GB of RAM. I'm limiting my RAM usage in AD at almost all of it (7850 MB), have my dedicated NVIDIA GPU as the renderer, retina rendering set to "low" (don't know if this makes a difference with my regular 1080p screen), but with gradient dithering and precise clipping on. However, when I transform a shape, it's noticeably slower than 60 fps. Maybe at 30 or 25 fps with frequent frame rate drops (the frame rate drops also happen when using the pen tool, but the regular frame rate is noticeably smoother) and it sometimes doesn't update the whole workspace at once, so I see bits of my project lag behind others. I know my computer isn't an absolute beast, but shouldn't these kind of specs still be able to run a program like this faster?
  23. I just purchased another Affinity product, Designer for Windows. When installing, it never asked me for my product code and I don't see anywhere that it is listed. Also, at the upper left in the Assets tab there is a heading for IOS12 and some of the selections are for Apple Pay, iPhone X bars and tabs, etc. And none of the tools on the left hand side are available (they are all greyed out). Unless I have done something really wrong, this looks like Twilight Zone stuff. I tried uninstalling and re-installing but it's the same. I am including a picture of what I am seeing.
  24. Please optimize the ComboBox size. For example, the Context Toolbar of the Paint Brush Tool, where the maximum possible values are entered. As you can see, the ComboBoxes are unnecessarily large, which in turn removes the available space in the Context Toolbar so that it does not fit all the necessary items. P.S. Although in this case, "Protect Alpha" would certainly fit without ComboBox optimization.
  25. Pulisher for windows version 1.7.1.404 crashed 2nd time within 10 minutes while doing text formation. Please help with bugfix or whatever.. Are there action known you should not do in order to prevent a crash?
