I am having an annoying issue on Windows 10. I use Wacom intuos M. I did not have this problem before Affinity 1.8.x So, when Windows Ink is disabled in Wacom Properties, no brush in pixel persona has pressure. They work like charm once I enable Windows Ink. Now in Designer persona, Windows Ink doesn't let me draw sharp nodes while using pen tool. They are all smooth node and I have to click Alt to convert each of them to sharp node while drawing. (Before 1.8.x, I only had to click/tap on a smooth node to turn it to a sharp node). The issue solves when Windows Ink is disabled. But then the brushes won't work. I need both my brushes to work normally and also draw sharp nodes. Any solution?

I've came across this issue with the Pen Tool and stylus devices. If you try to draw straight lines with sharp nodes, very often you'll inadvertedly create smooth points instead. I've first noticed this on my Surface Pro 4, but I've also been able to replicate it on my desktop PC with very different hardware. At first I thought it was Windows Ink causing the issue since a similar bug was happening in previous versions, but switching to High Precision or Low Precision does not fix the issue. The 'trick' seems to be the rhythm at which you lay down the points? This is easier to replicate on the Surface Pro and it's pen, or at least it happens more often, seems like a somewhat fast laying down of points trigger this more often? On the desktop seems to be the opposite, slow and deliberate points seem to convert to smooth more often. I also got the feeling the longer the program runs, the more likely it is to trigger unwanted smooth points. Attached are videos showing the issue happening in both hardware / software combinations. There needs to be a higher 'dead zone' before sharp points transition to smooth points, otherwise it's a pain to deal with using the Pen Tool. Thanks! I'm currently looking into if I should purchase a display monitor, such an XP-Pen Innovator 16 or a Huion Kamvas 16 Pro, but I came across many reports that drivers for these devices will conflict with Wacom drivers. As I kept looking it seems like the issues lies with WinTab APIs, it seems like each of these drivers will install a different wintab32.dll. So Wacom drivers will install a version/variant of wintab32.dll that only works with those drivers, and when you install let's say a XP-Pen driver, it will overwrite the wintab32.dll file that again only works with itself. Bummer. But it seems like applications that use Windows Ink should be unaffected by this. So long as the drivers are set to use Windows Ink everything should work just fine. At least in theory. And that's my question for anyone using this hardware combo on Windows, were you able to make both drivers work in Windows Ink mode? Were you able to retain pressure (and tilt) sensitivity in both pen devices? Affinity software is a prime example of a software where this is easy to spot since you can easily swap between WinTab and Windows Ink at will. Thanks in advance for any help given.

First of all, I love to use my graphic tablet with windows ink enabled.... it gives a really nice user experience for me. Also on my experience of using the latest beta, Affinity is considered as Pen app (correct me, if i am wrong) So, when I use Affinity Photo with this graphic tablet, in my work area, mouse location is different from my pen pointer... It only displays the pen pointer. it is really annoying as I can't really do middle click drag as well as any right click functionality... Also, Affinity Photo is really hanging a lot with windows ink enabled, even a simple zooming to image takes time... Also, if I were to draw something, I am getting jagged lines. There is no option for me to disable windows ink in Affinity Photo. The tablet I use is Veikk A15 Pro. it will be great if someone can provide option to disable Affinity as Pen App.

Hey community and devs! Problem is the following: I am not able to use the right click on the buttons of the stylus of my HUION display tablet in the complete Affinity Suite (latest release as well as beta). The right click doesn't get recognized. I have already tried experimenting with the preferences, but have not come to a sufficient result, but to the realization that it could be related to Windows Ink. I have already written in more detail about this here, a topic about a similar problem. I'm using the latest release of OS and drivers as well as both latest release and betas of the Affinity Suite. Display tablet I'm using: HUION Kamvas Pro 13 Now in the beta, the option to set Windows Ink has now been removed - but the problem still exists for me. Hi All, I recently purchased the whole suite of otherwise excellent Affinity applications for Windows and have been having major trouble getting any of them to function with stylus input on a Cintiq Pro. The usual support response has been turn off Windows ink. Well above are my findings. As you can see various combinations produce differing results with "windows ink" turned on in both Affinity Preferences and Wacom Tablet Properties. Line quality wise the only acceptable is with Windows Ink ON in both Wacom and Affinity preferences however the caveat is that anything requiring a single "tap" (such as with the Patch tool etc) doesn't function and you have to grab the mouse. Without Windows ink on in Wacom you get no pressure and with one or the other on you get "tap" functionality returned. This is the same across all 3 apps with Designer being the worst due to the amount of "tapping" required. All lines were created with Comics G Pen brush I am using the 1.8.3.461 builds. Hopefully this is something that can be rectified with the next update. Thanks, Rob

Hi, Using a Wacom tablet or mouse I am able to add nodes to an existing path by clicking on the path (using the node tool). But when using a Surface Book 2 pen clicking on the path doesn't add nodes. It only shows the position where the new node might be added. I searched through the Designer settings and found 'Enable Pointer Support' in the UI section. But checking that setting and restarting Designer didn't fix this. When I turn off Windows Ink in the Designer Tool-settings and restart Designer it fixes this issue, but than there is another issue as the pressure sensitivity of the pen isn't working anymore. So that's not a solution unfortunately. Using the Surface pen to draw without the full node tool functionality is a pain. I might be missing something, but this looks like an issue in Designer. Love working with Designer and love the Surface Book 2, but it would be great to use Designer on the Surface book with its pen as that's an important reason buying this Surface Book! 😀 designer-pen-issue-node-tool.mp4

If the option "Use Windows Ink for tablet input" is enabled, any jitter happening when tapping the tablet with the pen will be detected as a mouse drag instead of just a click, regardless of how small our hand/finger movement is. The most obvious consequence of this issue is this bug previously reported here: But it actually completely breaks the whole app workflow, since any selection you do with the pen will register both as a selection and also a move, flooding the History panel at twice the rate. It will also literally move any object by tiny amounts, breaking all alignments you may try to do. Have a look at the attached video. I'm illustrating the issue in Affinity Designer here, but this happens in all Affinity apps. There should be a threshold of pen movement to register as an actual move object request, anything below that should be considered a tap. Until this is fixed the only way to use these apps is disabling the Windows Ink option. Just to clarify, I am using WACOM Bamboo pen & touch CTH-460, (8 year) old tablet input device using the OLD Wacom drivers and Preferences UI. In beta USING Windows Ink works perfectly, using pen top button to adjust pen hardness and size. In beta NOT using WI, identical performance, no issues. Pen usage and speed unaffected in either situation. I believe that the drivers for recent Wacom tablets are fundamentally different to these old devices. HTH.

I´m using a graphic tablet Gaomon M10k 2018. In Affinity Photo 1.7 it worked correct. With the new version 1.8 I lost the pen pressure sensitivity. To get pen pressure sensitivity back, I have to activate "Windows Ink" in the tablet-menue. But with Windows Ink acitvated, I lose mouse options on the pen switch like "right mouse button" and "wheel down/up" on the tablet sensor wheel. p.s. in Photoshop CS6 it works as perfect, as it has done in Affinity 1.7 before.

Hi, I have a couple of problems in version 1.8.0.555. My computer is an HP Notebook - 15-dw0015ns, i7, 16g ram and integrated gpu intel UHD graphics 620. I use the program mainly for painting and for this, I use a wacom pen and touch tablet. Both problems occur when I activate windows ink, but only in 1.8, in 1.7 these particular problems do not exist. The first one is that I can't change the size of the brush by dragging.When i press the right mouse button (in my pen tablet) , a white circle appears around the cursor and nothing happens. The white circle appears whenever I press right mouse button (pen button), it doesn't matter if I press alt or not. A sign also appears on which is written "alt", every time I press that button. Although that does not block the color picker (however the poster appears in the middle of the magnifier of the color picker and is also increased, preventing you from seeing the colors of the canvas correctly). The other problem is that it seems that the touch of the pencil takes about half a second to process. When you paint, at the beginning of the stroke the cursor stays frozen for half a second and then the stroke appears suddenly. The exact same thing also happens with the color picker. If you put the brush in the colour selector, it takes the same time, about half a second to place the color at the indicated point. Also the brush very often stops working, the cursor disappears (even so you can see the white circle if pulse right buton) or appear a mouse arrow instead of the preview of the size brush, and the tool picker color does not work. As I said this does not happen in 1.7 (in this version there is only a small delay in detecting the movement of the brush when changing the size of the brush, something that still appens in 1.8 but fortunately is less noticeable with the change in the drag system to change the size in this beta version ). Windows ink unfortunately always gave me many problems, on my old desktop computer and my old surface pro 6 there were programs that I couldn't even use (on the surface 6 you can't disable windows ink). I have not found an option to not have to use windows ink and I'm afraid there isn't, right ?. I hope it is possible to fix these problems, because I would not like not to be able to use affinity, I love this program. Since I am also I would like to comment, although I think that there is already an open topic, that from time to time, in 1.7 with win ink, the brush stops working and only draws straight lines.
