  1. Probably on my top 10 most used features in Illustrator is the stroke width tool, which allows you to adjust the width of the stroke at each anchor point. This can somewhat be achieved using the Pressure tab within the pen line settings, but it isn't nearly as precise. A couple of solutions might be: Add a stroke width tool to allow anchor points to be adjusted. Within the pressure panel, display a point on the graph for every anchor point from the shape. And allow these to be adjusted only vertically on the graph by holding shift, so that they stay on the anchor points. Create a new panel in the pen menu that allows for a numerical value to be entered in for stroke width. Thanks for listening.
  2. Currently, pressure profiles and dashes are mutually exclusive. I would like to have both a pressure profile and a dash applied, no more workarounds please.
  3. This so far has only appeared as an issue on the Selection brush tool width slider, all other width sliders behave as expected. Whereas the slider would usually have a graded expansion taking up to 50% of the slider to expand to 100px the slider in v2 is rapidly expanding in random decimalised px quantities with no precision at all. See screenshots Photo v2 has got to a very random 1961.1px at 50%
  4. In this demo you can see that I increase the stroke width, but that the object has no stroke colour assigned. Therefore, I don't see any effect of increasing the stroke width with the new keyboard shortcuts [ and ]. 2022-11-10 21-29-11.mp4 Worse, it can lead to extremely large and buggy strokes when I do apply a stroke colour. 2022-11-10 21-29-11.mp4 Therefore, I would like to see that a default stroke colour is applied when increasing the stroke width while there is no colour assigned. You generally tend to hold the key until you are really sure it is not working. By then, the stroke value is probably so large that you get what I showed in the second video.
  5. I like that I can drag on the text for width to resize my brush. But since its aligned to the left hand side of the screen, it is not possible for me to reduce the brush width, as I cannot drag towards the left. Perhaps other checkbox settings could be moved to the left of the width setting or it could have an empty margin that can be used to drag over.
  6. This should be addressed to the Affinity Range. Dashed lines should not scale by length when adjusting the width, only the width should increase, as it stands, if you increase the width of a dashed line from say .5mm to 1mm the dashes increase in length knocking any phase adjusts you have made "out of whack" effectively destroying the phase setting. What should happen is the width of the dash should increase and the length of the dash should not, this means any phase adjustments you have applied will be retained. This leads me on to Alignment, there should be an alignment option to create a symmetrical dash, the corners would have a symmetrical L shaped dash and single lines would have a half dash at each end. See bottom image for an example. Affinity @ .5mm 12-6-0-0 Affinity @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 Dashes scale by length and go out of alignment. Adobe Illustrator @ .5mm 12-6-0-0 Adobe Illustrator @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 (No length scaling dash stays put) Adobe Illustrator with Alignment applied, makes a neat dashed line.
  7. Er, I think the Subject says it! I'd love a Modifier-drag way to change any brush width – vector stroke, _or_ pixel size when in Pixel Persona. But in the short term, I'd be happy if [ and ] grew and shrunk the stroke size – of the current pen/pencil/vector brush, if one of those are selected; or of the selected curve, if the node tool's selected. Thanks for considering this! - pbass
  8. Maybe I am blind and I totally missed it somehow, but I'm not able to set the width of the stroke (of a rectangle for example) to 1px. Or is this not (yet, hopefully) implemented? Thanks in advance guys! :)
  9. Suggestion: Some software programs place the width and height measurement unit name outside the measurement size boxes. This makes selecting and changing sizes easier and clicking on the unit name is also used to change the measurement between different units of measurement. I've attached a short video to show how this is set up. Could this be a possible future option for Affinity? Width Height measurement window.mp4
  10. On the help pages of Affinity, it shows me these shortkeys to resize brush width, etc. (see attachment) Being on windows, holding the right mouse key and alt, then moving my cursor doesn't do anything! What am I missing?
  11. After upgrading to Affinity Photo 1.7 I can now no longer find where or how to set the stroke width of font elements. I create a font and write a text and i have found I can use the alternative colour on the colour palette to make a stroke colour on the font, but I can not find any way of editing the width of this stroke. This previously used to be an option from the Font sub menu bar. Where has it gone?
  12. Hello evryone, I'm testing the Affinity Designer option for mostly doing illustration coming from Adobe Illustrator. One option very helpful which I'd love in Ai it's the Width Tool. I've been looking for similar option along a path on Affinity Designer, but couldn't find the same. There's "pressure" for a stroke but if using a brush or texture, it doesn't seem to do much. Now my question comes easily: How can I customise the width of a vector brush acting on single point as the width tool in Ai? Thanks for you help! Stay safe!
  13. We lack the possibility to set the line thickness (width) expressed in millimeters. Because the controllers of our machines (laser plotters) read the 0.001mm line as the cutting line. The possibility of implementing such a solution will allow us and many companies to completely switch from Illustrator to Anfinity and purchase many licenses.
  14. I've reported this issue to the Twitter team and they have asked me to post this here. Having created an illustration I selected one of the objects to check the size. For some reason I just decided to I click on the X and Y values in the Transform Panel and press 'Enter' and as I did this I noticed that the object moved ever so slightly. The same happens with Height and Width respectively. It's as though the values in the Transform Panel boxes don't match the size of the object on-screen. This happens in new documents too and isn't just on the illustration document. It happens in whatever unit of measurement I have the document set to and can be seen more clearly when zoomed in. Perhaps there's a tolerance between each digit in relation to the preview on-screen? Apple iMac 21.5-inch macOS Catalina 10.15.1 Affinity Designer 1.7.3 Document set to A3 Landscape CMYK with Create Artboard turned on Create a rectangle Click on the rectangle Go to the transform panel and observe the values shown Click on each of the values but don't change them and simply press 'Enter' If it behaves like mine you should be able to see the rectangle change ever so slightly Attached is a quick recording of this happening. After clicking on the values in the Transform Panel boxes, I simply press 'Enter' on the keyboard and the object changes as shown. This doesn't sound like much of a problem but when working on intricate illustrations with lots of detail, the slightest unintended movement or alteration can mess things up. Is this a bug or simply a programmed behaviour that I just need to get used to? Hope that helps! Affinity Designer Glitch.mov
  15. Is it a bug or intentional? Every time to select a different brush, your storke with gets reset, making it a pain to check the look of individual brushes, as they mess up the object you're trying to apply the brush to. This just in... Helmar
  16. Hi, I already drew a picture and realize now that the width of the paint brush is too thin and I have been searching everywhere for how to change the width of the paint brush strokes but I haven't found any solutions and I experimented with things and nothing has changed. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.
  17. You can enter percentages in the width/height property fields under the transform tab. I just wanted to resize a rectangle by typing because I wanted it to be exactly half the width. I am lazy and bad at calculating by head so I figured I just enter "50%" in the width field of the rectangle under the transform tab. And it worked
  18. When defining a stroke width, Affinity Designer (and Publisher) currently converts decimals more than one place to tenths. It is important to have the ability to specify decimals in the stroke width of a line up to four decimal places so that the software can be used to define vector cut lines in laser engraving software. Case in point - the users manual for Trotec Job Control states that for vector lines to cut with a laser, you must set them at a width of "0.001 mm or 0.00005 inches" (see attached screenshot). You currently cannot do that with Affinity Designer/Publisher, if you type in a width of "0.0036pt" (equal to 0.00005 inches) as the stroke width, the software will convert 0.0036 to zero. Actually anything less than 0.1 will get rounded down to zero. This is important functionality if we were to completely replace Illustrator & InDesign. Thanks.
  19. I've been trying to figure out how can I change width of line/brush stroke that goes gradually from 0 to any desired width. Maybe there is something in stroke/brush properties. I tried: Properties when Stroke card selected also Edit brush (preassure) So I edited my custom brush as shown in the picture below but curve still has equal width all the way. Thanks for the advices or links to this kind of issue if there is already! Martin
  20. I guess this has been requested before, but the fact that this very helpful tool is not yet in Affinity Designer, makes me feel envious of my workmates using Adobe Illustrator. I'm not talking about the graph, but the tool that gives you the capability to adjust the width of strokes at a selected point. Can you guys confirm if you are working on it, please? I would get very excited!
  21. I don't even know the right way to talk about this, so it's likely this is possible and I just can't find it. When I open a doc in AfPub, in the lower right corner there's a minitab labeled "Transform" -- this is distinct from the Layer -> Transform menu item; here I can just set the item's control point, X and Y Location (x and y), Width, Height, Rotation, and Skew for the selected item(s). Is there a keyboard shortcut (or way to make one) to alter these or put the focus in one of these boxes? Related, and again I don't know what to call it, but if the current selection is, say, a polygon, there's a bar of configuration options running just above the document. It has, e.g., the name of the shape, the fill, stroke, number of sides, etc. What is that called, and how do I get focus there without using the mouse? Thanks!
  22. Can anyone tell me what keeps happening to my pencil strokes, and what to do about it? I am drawing using the pencil tool. The thick black stroke in the first image is what I have been using, and it is what I want. However, in the middle of drawing something (in this case, I was tracing the shape that is on the bottom left of both images), all of a sudden all of my strokes disappear (compare images below). The pencil lines are still there, but the thick black part is gone and I'm left with just the thin blue selection lines (not the selection box; I mean the lines that make up the curves themselves are now just thin blue lines). And I don't mean just on the particular curve I've been working on, I mean when this happens every stroke in the document (even on other, supposedly locked layers) has gone from thick black lines to almost invisible thin lines. When I check the stroke settings—brush width, size variance, solid line style, etc.—none of them have changed, but my nice thick black lines are still gone. Changing these settings has no effect, and undoing has no effect—I can undo all the way back to the point at which I first drew each line, and they are still thin blue lines the whole time, not thick black ones. This has happened to me in two different documents so far, and because I can't find a way to fix the lines or undo whatever happened, I have had to start over from scratch, which really blows. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? I've searched the forums and tutorials for help but haven't found any info. If you reply please have mercy and use laymen's terms. :) I am very new to Affinity Designer, and to graphic design programs in general. Thank you very much.
  23. Hi guys, When using Frame Text, is it possible to have it simply resize to the words content horizontally? Like simply keep one line, and have the text go as much as you want horizontally, without having to drag the text handler to make the frame wider, to avoid the text going on a new line. Thanks, Chris
  24. Can anyone give me any tips on how to achieve lines similar to the style done in the show 'Ed Edd n Eddy'?The line widths are all over the place. Would this be done with a specific brush or by manually altering the line widths?
  25. Hello, Is possible to set a real 1px of stroke width with no antialiasing? Thank you!
