  1. Heya! I'm curious if supporting non-square pixel aspect ratios is planned. I come across that issue quite often when working with footage shot on anamorphic lenses - with different pixel aspect ratios of 1.6:1, 1.8:1 or 2:1. It would be great to have a way of loading & displaying those in a desqueezed way, without destroying the metadata when saving them out again for further use in compositing applications. Any insights on that? PS: I'm not looking for a workaround like transforming the image manually etc. - I'd love to have a native way of dealing with that :)
  2. Hi Folks! Would it be possible to get a divide blending mode? It gets used a tonne in vfx compositing where we want to separate different parts of an image so we can tweak things individually! Thanks! John
  3. Dear Serif Team and Affinity Photo users, I'm a VFX Compositor & Matte Painter and I'd like to move from PS to AP. I hope you can help me with some questions regarding the Implementation and proper use of ACES and 32-bit. My background plate is exported from Nuke as an ACES - ACES2065-1 16-bit EXR file. The import into AP (1.6.4.104) works fine - the file get's recognized as an ACES file and I get the same result using OCIO. But there are a few things I can't get my head around yet: How do I pick and paint high color values? Using the exposure slider in the 32-bit Preview I see that there are high values. If I pick and paint them back in, the result is way darker. (Changing the exposure doesn't effect the false picked color) picked in Nuke for comparison I moved from PS because there is a 16Bit limitation and I had to work with ACEScc files (log encoded) and use an ICC profile to check my work. I hoped to get around this using AP. Those threads are dealing with the same issue but the information is contradictory and I can't reproduce the method quoted first. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/49815-hdr-raw-pixel-values/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/19787--/ What is the proper workflow of importing and edit JPGs in an ACES setup in AP? Unfortunately there's no way of assigning an IDT during import (as in Nuke) but I can reproduce Nukes behavior with OCIO Adjustment Layers, which seams pretty inconvenient. (Windows Photo Viewer as comparison) Bottom left: Two OCIO nodes in sequence [ACES2056-1 to Utility - Curve - sRGB] followed by [Output - sRGB to ACEScg]. Bottom right: Two OCIO nodes in sequence [ACES2056-1 to Utility - Curve - sRGB] followed by [Utility - sRGB - Texture to ACEScg]. This post deals with the question of the right IDT for JPGs in general. I guess going the Utility - sRGB - Texture way is better, isn't it? My color settings: If you need further information or I haven't made my questions clear enough please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad about any help or further learning resources! Thanks a lot
  4. A couple Macros which are mimicking a Cross polarization step, taking out glare and reflections on your images. The glare removal(within the eyes) is a separate included macro. https://gumroad.com/l/CPS-AP Main goal was to free up artist time. 5. Requesting the ability to import a video file that breaks down into frames that have layers, edit each frame like a photo, play the video back, and export video. Would be productive for video touch ups, VFX and tittles. I could imagine some cool techniques using the liquid brush and some of Affinities other tools on video frames
  6. Hi there, I hope my list will help, as I certainly see a lot of potential in this application. To not show off like a complainer, I have integrated a Pro list. I had a few hours with the app, and here is what I would love to see. I know, the variety of needs is certainly different for anyone. Thanks for keeping the price low and the tech nice. One of my day-jobs is since a decade to be a beta tester, so I hope I do not sound too harsh. Sorry if... I use Photoshop since 1993, I like to switch ASAP, as Adobes rent-model is not my ideal at all. Pros: CMD-Z: Multiple, no time wasted being forced to go to history. (Without breaking fingers (Opt/CMD/Z in Ps) The Warp tool, it feels like a tool of today! The Gradient tool, it stays interactive and is screen based. A huge time safer. Curve includes Alpha and more features. DCI P3 Overall, compared to Photoshop, it feels up-to-date and fresh, responsive, and has no 8bit/channel limitations all over the place. Certainly promising and I can’t wait for any future update, when things get even more mature. Cons: No scratch disk can be designated to be used. Which limits the use heavily for large projects. (My files are normally between 2GB and 30GB large) No work spaces, just set it up and live with it. No switch among several. Which is pretty odd. Clone Tool, please allow via numerical input to fine-tune the distance, or perhaps via option/CMD to move the target a little bit. I would expect the Opacity settings to be in the Brush settings, in a modern tool like this. The Brush menu has that MORE button, if the menu is open, the button should show LESS as option. The Warp tool is great, except that it can't extend if there is transparency involved in the layer. Big disadvantage. No 32 bit/channel — Just: OUCH! We live in an HDRI world since over a decade. Which excludes one flavor of psd files, so the claim to open psd is not really true! New Document, allow for a list, with custom sizes and settings, the given list is fine, but I really feel it takes more time to find what I like than to set my own up. Panoramatool, compared to some high end apps, not bad at all, but not to be able to render the single source images into separate layers, renders it useless for me. The Adjustment Panel, way too large and after a few minutes I really don’t need the names anymore. Allow for Icons only, and a instead of a list, a grid. As with the Adjustments, the Effect panel, way too much space. Option/ CMD delete to fill layer with foreground background…? To do that, it needs too many steps in Affinity. I might miss something here, but the Layer and Mask workflow is not working. How can I transform the Layer without the mask, or both or only the mask, without moving stuff around. This feels not solved. Again, I might miss something. The Layer manager fills the little preview icons and disables so to see where the image is, e.g., in an manual stitched panorama, which is a huge disadvantage while working with dozens of images in a 360º image stitch. This doesn't allow to identify the XY location of an image. So: One has no idea where one image is and has to search. For very wide panoramas, this is useless. All in all, even the Ps Layer looks old by now, it is more functional. I feel limited here. The Blend Modes, while choosing — flashes like a X-Mas tree. Only starters and people who have no idea what each mode does need this preview. For someone used to set a target blend mode by knowledge, this is very ugly and disturbing. Flood Fill doesn’t work on transparent areas, sometimes it does. What do I miss? The “Transparent Background" can’t be set to default. A white BG is misleading and hard on the eyes. Some art brushes leaves a jaggy outline around them. The left toolbar, more often than not, the tool - even visible as icon is not presented after clicking on it, In 4 out five cases I need to go to the “fly-out menu” This is annoying. The icons look like toys, too colorful and toonish for my taste. They can be set to monochrome, but that doesn’t help it. No “.pbs”, which limits the use drastically for large images, and not even half-float Open EXR. For me — sadly the K.O. of this release. The interaction among documents, e.g., duplicate (layers / folders), or Match Color , not a given. No option to work on the EXIF data, not even to exclude them from export. Next KO.
  7. Hi, I am excited that exr/floating point support is coming. One additional feature that would be extremely helpful for us would be to support open colorIO (vs. ICC profiles). In the visual effects industry, ICC profiles are hardly ever used (and can be a pain in the arse). Open ColorIO is our preferred color management and if we had the ability to natively use the same profiles that we use in Nuke, Mari, and Maya then we would be miles ahead of photoshop with its confusing and annoying color management. As its name implies, it is an open standard. I have no idea how hard it would be to switch between the two different color models, but if it is at all possible it would push Affinity Photo forward in the effects field quite a bit (coupled with your support for floating point file formats).
  8. Hey guys, Here is something I done in Modo today. Post in Affinity Photo Beta. Everything went smooth apart from those live filters hanging and slowing things done.... A LOT!!!! Render time about 2 hours with Modo Renderer. Hope you like it :) Cheers, Vlad
