  1. I’ve acquired Affinity Designer yesterday for my iPad Pro. I’m not quite sure as to what the meaning of these icons are under the node tool. The help button doesn’t reveal any tooltip unfortunately. Can an anyone enlighten me? Thanks!
  2. Hey everyone! Please consider including saving and loading the studio layout to and from file (windows, toolbar content, tools position and content) for Designer, Photo and Publisher. This would speed up things when - using the software on multiple Macs - having the layout set back by an update (e.g. 1.7) - going from a beta version to the store version It took me about 45 minutes to setup the UI for Affinity Publisher, including Designer and Photo persona, on two Macs. Also, I think the Designer and Photo personas of Publisher should read the UI layout of Designer and Photo. Best wishes, Shu

    Can't find layers panel?

I use multiple monitors at work, so I am thinking this might be the cause? My layers panel has disappeared. I don't know where it is or how to get it back. Can someone help? Am I missing something obvious? When I right click on an item and click on "Find in Layers Panel" nothing happens. Really love using this trial and am probably going to purchase. But I gotta know why it's doing this. Thanks!!
  4. I am designing a 24x24 pixel icon, and for optimal workflow I want a 1500-3000% zoomed window AND a 100% zoomed window. I was very happy that Affinity seems to support this, AND update both windows in real-time! Super well made, and absolutely awesome! However, the selection behavior suddenly becomes extremely strange an erratic. It actually seems as if the zoomed window has proportionally the selection size of the small window, in that I can click way off an object, and it will still get selected, and resizing handles will be active way, way outside of the highlighted object, and snapping (which I didn't think I had turned on) goes across great distances. Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug?
  5. Every time I create a new document, the size of the window is very small and not using the available screen-space. Why is that and how can I permanently change this to a "reasonable" size? MacOS 10.14.5 I'm working in separated mode I have two displays attached (both are way bigger, 27" and 21,5") if I resize the window and save this document, this particular document opens again in the right size. But not every other "new" document. Edit: No, it doesnt...
  6. There's an odd and ugly "floating" circular "close" element on some of the info panels in Affinity Designer. Visually it doesn't even seem to belong to the info box (see screenshot, the black thing with the cross behind the window). Personal Opinion: Why are there two separate elements offering the same function on such small panel? Wouldn't the normal and proper "Close" button be enough?
  7. (latest version of Affinity Designer 1.7.1 from the Apple Store, OS X 10.10 with the "latest" updates) After changing the document dimensions with "File > Document Setup…" I experience refresh issues on the background area of the document (doesn't seem to matter if the background is transparent or a color). This especially happens very often after adding extra space to a document by using the "Anchor to Page" option. Perhaps related to the fact if it has to trigger a new zoom level afterwards or not. Usually on the right side of the document parts are missing then or I get bars in the UI background color. See the vertical bar in the screenshot (no such rectangle part of my test document). Moving the document around in the viewport will repaint those areas properly. This is easily reproducible.
  8. The use of scrollbars seems buggy as they appear and disappear with using the “Zoom to Fit” command. Please see attached screen capture. Specs: MacBook Pro (15 Inch, 2018) 2,9 GHz Intel Core i9 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Radeon Pro 560X 4096 MB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB scroll-bars_publisher.mp4
  9. If I perform the following steps, all previously active toolbars (except one) disappear, and I have to activate them all again individually: - Hide all toolbars by pressing the tab key - Press command-T to display the text panel - Now, if I press the tab key again to show/hide my toolbars, only the toolbar on the right side appears and disappears. I have to manually activate every other toolbar again for them to show up. The easiest fix would probably be to show all toolbars instantly after pressing command-T (as if the user pressed the tab key). The bug is reproducible in Affinity Photo 1.7.1 (macOS 10.14.5). It happens every time, even in empty documents.
  10. Some thoughts on Personas, Sudiolink, and Edit In… commands. It seems to me there is room for improvement in the approach to publisher’s implementation of personas and the studio link feature as well as the edit in photo and edit in designer menu items in both affinity publisher and affinity designer. I believe publisher’s personas need to be addressed. Instead of a designer icon persona, it would be a vector persona icon. Instead of an affinity photo icon for the persona, it ought to be something akin to designers pixel or raster persona. I think reserving the app icons exclusively for the studio link feature would be wise. It may be a good idea to have a separate studio link section on the tool bar, before the personas, as a shortcut to the edit in command that usually sends the file from one app to the other while closing it in the originating app. In addition, this leaves a possibility for publisher to develop or host new personas, such as a preflight persona, an extensive resource / font / hyperlink manager persona, an export persona. some of these may be shared across apps like the export persona, if one owns the hosting app, As publisher currently does with designer and photo. affinity might want to open up the persona as a plug-in platform of sorts, but much more powerful than anything offered in competing suites. Of course it would be beneficial to manage the personas through an app pref pane, to disable and enable what suits one’s workflow. An approach like this might yield a very flexible and customizable set of tools and modules that interact with each other, specifically tailored to an individual’s process. Just some ideas...
  11. Hey everyone! When choosing monochromatic UI, the icon for indicating snapping activation is still blue: https://www.shushustorm.com/_Uploads/Serif/iOS/1_7/UI_Monochromatic.PNG Best wishes, Shu
  12. In the text panel alone there can be found two different icons for linking values. And in the transformation panel there is another variation to the icon. Also I did not recognise the icon next to the word gutter as a button. See screenshot attached.
  13. Hey everyone! This feature request is for macOS as well as for iPad. It's great nested symbols is implemented now. I have a suggestion that would make things easier to see what's going on: It would be useful if there were different symbol indicator colors depending on symbol nesting depth. For example: Normal symbol: Orange Symbol that holds symbol(s): Yellow Symbol that holds symbol(s) that hold(s) symbol(s): Green ..... Blue ..... Pink ..... Purple ..... Red Best wishes, Shu
  14. With a 13" MBP mid-2012 and the Apple Dock anchored to the bottom of the screen, there is a window combination where you would be required to Force Quit or go to Preferences and change where the Dock attaches. Example:
  15. I think it would be very useful to have a way of scaling the tools size. I have a laptop with 1920x1080 pixels resolution and the Affinity Photo looks as shown in the image attached. You can see that the last items in the Dock Tools: Artistic Text Tool, Mesh Warp Tool and the Zoom Tool are not visible, for they do not fit in the screen. I think it would be very useful to be able to scale the ui, so that everything would stay in perfect order on all kinds of screens.
  16. Hi I am currently evaluating AD for purchase as a vector based drawing tool. Is there a way to get a larger tool icon and font size in Affinity Designer? I already have the "large" font in the prefernce pane on UI, which isnt very large. This font is barely acceptable. The icons as well for all the tools are a tad too small. I use two 4k Dell monitors in their native resolution on a Mac Book Pro. The UI is just too small to be really workable. For a graphics based product, I think a little scaling of the UI should not be too challenging and thus am struggling to believe there is not already some way to alter this ... ? 4K and even now 5K monitors are becoming common place. Thanks and regards,
  17. There it goes, my inspiration that is, out of the window, and I lost it trying to change who knows what shortcut key... again. As a professional in video, animation, 3d and audio I have used many many applications over the years, and find Affinity package a real refreshing leap forward. However, I must admit that the preferences window across all three Affinity apps (Photo, Designer and Publisher) is one of the most useless I have ever encountered. I am not afraid to switch and learn applications and am ready to customize the new ones I learn to my own best practices, and the preferences window is my friend or it should be, but Affinity's is not at all. Please let me try to explain what I find is wrong with and suggest some changes which I did not think a lot about, but seem much simpler to use. Let's start: 1. The preferences window uses a unique visual paradigm, completely different from any other dialogue I have encountered in the rest of the application. It has a header with Back/forward buttons, "home" button (with an odd icon and a drop-down menu) and search bar. No other panel, toolbar, manager, assistant or any other window in Affinity uses this paradigm or at least my humble knowledge of the app does not bring any into the mind. I doubt that this is good. For instance having tabs, like some other windows would do the trick no need for back/forward buttons, no need for home button, no need for drop-down menu, just 7 simple instantly accessable tabs. 2. search bar is a sneaky red herring! It is in fact dangerously useless! I'd like to change a shortcut for brush size in pixel persona? typing any of these terms does not help me to find where to do it. It seems that this search bar is good for searching only a couple of dozen words which does not make any sense at all, either you make every single preference item that can be change searchable or get rid of the search bar because the way it is now is frustratingly useless. 3. I will not go in depth on my thoughts about "General", "Color", "Performance", "User Interface" and "Tools" pages as I do see some benefit of "bite sized" preferences pages even if some items on them seem to belong to another page, and the number of these pages could actually be decreased. (for instance half of the "Tools" preferences could easily belong to "User Interface" tab) 4. Checkboxes, since they have really powerful results would benefit from tooltip help with a more verbose description of what they do. 5. "Miscellaneous" could easily be renamed to "factory resets" or something on that line, as that is what it does. 6. And now I come to my nemesis, the "Keyboard Shortcuts" page. Where to start?! a) there is a search bar on the upper right, that is as we said a sneaky trap, and a red herring. It does not help us here, and will take us "home" probably finding nothing of interest. b) we need to use these two fiddly drop-downs. The first one could easily be replaced with beautiful Draw, Pixel and Export icons cutting the number of actions for picking persona to edit to only one click (or even better none.. read on). The second one is really unintuitive as its items partially overlap in different personas. It took me a while to get the idea that this second one is contextual to the first one (as the list changes "behind the curtain")... I got it only after learning my way a bit around the app so I recognised that some items belong to some personas. c) a quick overview of other buttons and check boxes in this upper region of Keyboard Shortcuts page; "Apply to all" -what? to all what? I had to dig through the manual to see what it does, and all it would take to fix it is to call it "apply shortcut changes to all personas" without this information there is no way to know that there actually are some connections possible between personas. As if the for instance, brush size in pixel and draw persona must be separate. "Ignore Modifier—Lets you create shortcuts using a single letter designation instead of using keyboard modifiers." says the manual, and I still do not get it. Does it allow me to pres only the letter in application without modifier keys and get what I want? No, as Ctrl+S is stil "save" and "Ctrl+Shift+S" is stil Save as. Does it filter out the input of Modifier keys while assigning new shortcuts? No. So what does it do? Maybe a better explanation in manual would help, and a more verbose checkbox title or tooltip. "Load/Save" what? it loads and saves what? a file obviously, but what does that file contain? All shortcuts, or only those in focus? Maybe "Load Shortcut configuration" or something on that line would be better. to be continued...
  18. Hey everyone! When snapping some windows together and snapping them to the left or right, their vertical arrangement gets inverted. I am using 1.7, macOS 10.13.6. This happens for both Designer and Photo. Best wishes, Shu

    Skin

This may have been mentioned by others. One of the obstacles facing Photoshop users wanting to migrate to Affinity is that Adobe users find it difficult to locate corresponding tools, palettes, and menus. Possibly Serif wanted to avoid similarities because of real or supposed copyright issues. I come from a software development background. If Serif could allow users to customize their own interface, that might help. I'm thinking in particular of bespoke 'skins', where an encompassing Photoshop-like UI filters commands from the user to the underlying Affinity program. It would take a burden off users.
  20. It's not anything that I think has been done in an image manipulation program before. I'm currently demoing Photo for work, as we're going to probably drop our CC subscription, and I was just thinking, as I go back and forth between multiple photos of the same object that I'm editing for our website and product books, how nice it would be if the layers tab could be addended or part of the individual document windows so one could compare what has and hasn't been done to each photo. Would probably look something like the attached image.
  21. Hello. I request the addition of UI size scaling. That item should be added to the user interface page of the preferences. The current default UI size is too small for display on WQXGA or 4K monitors. (Especially text such as menus)
  22. I have grown to like many of the features of Affinity Designer (and Photo and Publisher). And I think that the interface has improved (or I have gotten more accustomed to it). But... I still am not a fan of the flatness of the UI elements. I think a 3d-look is more usable. (Even Microsoft has found its way back to a more 3d-oriented UI with Office 2019, compared to Office 2016 which was very flat.) For example I think that studio palettes should have drop shadows like for example the tools palette has, when it is not docked. And I think that each palette should have some kind of border or some other way of showing what belongs to it and what not. I can work much better if I can quickly and easily see what belongs to a particular palette and I do not have to take a second look or look very carefully. That is particularly important when many palettes are grouped so that they appear as tabs. A 3d-UI-look could make it immediately clear what is a tab, what is the active tab (i.e. active palette), what is a subgroup inside the palette and where the next tab/palette group starts. Also I think that the page should have a border (and/or a small dropshadow) so that one can make the artboard white as well without losing the information where the page starts and ends. For comparison: 1) This is the current UI in Affinity Publisher: 2) This would be the UI with drop shadow (rough sketch):
  23. I have a very difficult time visually scanning for a group that includes a selected layer when using the dark mode UI. To my eye, there's not enough of a difference between the gray background and the dark gray-blue highlight color, and I often miss it. I think it would be an improvement even if you brightened the highlight by a marginal amount as proposed below. Ideally, it would be great to be able to select my own highlight colors, but this would at least address the problem I have. Thank you.
  24. Hi, there is a mismatch between the titlebar colour of the preferences window and the background colour of its toolbar as you can tell from the attached screenshots. Congrats for the release by the way!
  25. In the past couple days, the Studio palettes on the righthand side (Affinity Photo for Desktop on MacOS Mojave) have been randomly resizing: sometimes much wider and sometimes much narrower than the default. As there seems to be no means of manually resizing their width, I'm assuming this is a bug of some sort. Has anyone else encountered this? - Brad, Icecastles Photography
