  1. I would like to see the ability to apply a bitmap transparency in the same way you can apply a bitmap fill with the same capabilities. The bitmap would be used for transparency based on the brightness/luminosity of each pixel. In effect, converting whatever image is loaded to a greyscale image and using that for transparency. This could be used to create all sorts of tiled effects. Some other programs do this already and it is a very useful capability.
  2. I have a logo file in 2 formats--JPEG and PNG. Both files have black backgrounds that I want to change to transparent. I've tried exporting to PNG with the transparency option selected and also exporting as a GIF and TIFF. Everything still results in a black background. I've attached the .png version of the file. Any ideas? Is this a layer problem?
  3. Sometimes I help companies with print ads. Today I received an ad and it had colour format CMYK/8, but when I exported it to PDF and send it to the newspaper I got the following error message: "RGB color is used for transparency group". The newspaper does not allow RGB at all, only CMYK, in ads. I found the "problem", a transparent rectangle that I attach to this thread. I can not find how to change the transparency from RGB to CMYK for this vector i Affinity Designer. How do I change the transparency from RGB to CMYK? test.afdesign
  4. Let's say I do this: 1. Place an EPS graphics in Affinity Designer. 2. Use Transparency Tool on the graphic to make part of it transparent (a gradient). How do I UNDO that action later on? Sure, I can eliminate it by pressing CMD-Z numerous times (loosing all my other work in the process). But I don't see how to eliminate that added transparency when I look at the Layers palette. I see the transparency on my layer, but I don't see how to zap that transparency into oblivion. If it was added as a separate layer, it would be easy to delete the transparency, but it isn't. It merely displays in the layers palette. How do I delete a transparency I added to an object via the Transparency Tool? Thank you.
  5. Is there a way to remove white background like in Photoshop to make an image with transparency and then save it as PNG?
  6. I disabled my right panel toolbars. I use XP and Serif X9.
  7. Hi everyone, Just bought Affinity and love it. Sorry to ask what might be a dumb question but I searched and couldn't find a clear answer on any of the other forum threads. Is there currently an option to trim away transparent areas in Affinity? In Photoshop, for example there is an option under the Image menu for Trim... > Transparent Pixels. Is there anything similar in Affinity? Thanks for any help, and well done to Serif for an outstanding product. :)
  8. Hello. Tell me please, is it possible to export files drawn on the iPad in EPS format, if there are objects with different transparency in the file, so that these objects remain vector? I tried to export such a file, all objects become raster.
  9. Using Affinity Publisher, I am having difficulty in applying a blended/graduated transparency effect to a color photograph. I'm trying to have a transparency blend to a white area on the bottom, but it keeps making my color photo become black & white. I'm using the graduated tool setting both colors to white/#ffffff and setting one end at 100% and the other at 0%. Can someone help?
  10. im having constant problems with affinity rasterizing the documents on export or "some areas will be approximated". And with errors. Design, just curves. vejir_template.afdesign - afdesign file vejire-final.pdf - with "raster unsupported" - almost everything is rasterized vejire-final-noraster.pdf - with rasterize "nothing" selected settings.jpg - all export settings test.jpg - error even in rasterized output. Any thoughts? Am i doing something wrong? problem is, when i make graphics with some photos inside, i would like to use "raster unsupported" instead having all rasterized. vejire-final.pdf vejir_template.afdesign vejire-final-noraster.pdf
  11. Hi, I'm floundering here. I've watched the masking videos but I must be missing the answer. I have created text, applied a background using Place, reduced opacity so I can see the background through the text ... but I now want to get rid of the non text background to leave myself with lettering on a transparent background. I can't find a video that deals with this. Guidance welcome.
  12. Hi..I originally made this design as a circle. A client wants it in a 10x10 inch square. It was much larger but I managed draw a square...but I need to get rid of the transparency and the black line so that only the turquoise is left in a square shape. Sorry if this doesn't make sense... Thanks!!
  13. Hi Affinity Team, I am having some issues with PNGs with transparency. If I add these PNGs inside a CMYK document and export them as PDF I get different colors behind the transparency of the PNG. This happens when I use the format PDF/X-1a:2003 or PDF/X-3:2003. If I use the PDF/X-4 the transparency problem does NOT occur. I am also having these issues with other pixel graphics as well, when I use blend modes like multiply. Please check the files attached to see what I mean. It would be great to fix this issue since most professional printer would like to have files with the PDF/X-3:2003 format. Thanks and Kind Regards Tim test.afdesign Test.pdf
  14. I have a file where I put my resume and cover letter. As I edit them regularly I have enable continuous export. However while checking my last files I realised that a frame is adding to some logo that have a transparent background. I have checked everything but nothing seems wrong on my side. Is it a bug or I'm really wrong? Thanks you CV.afdesign
  15. Can anyone give me some links to videos on fading images to transparency? I found one a while ago which helped me out, but it seems to have disappeared. Does anyone have a link to it? I recall the image being manipulated was in an underground garage. My issue is, I can create a box and try to set up the gradient, but on the image I get clear lines where the gradient box starts and finishes. How do I get this smooth? And where do I place the box in the layers?
  16. I want to remove the white from this image, I've adjusted the Levels so the whites are completely white & blacks are completely black. I've gone to the selection tab & tried the 'Select sample colour' but i can't find a way to make it work. I've spent the last 3 hours looking at youtube tutorials, FAQ's & forums yet i have no idea what i'm doing right or wrong, please help.
  17. Windows 10 Home 1809, Publisher 1.7.0.227. I'm not sure if this behaviour is correct or not - so I'm not sure if it's a bug or not - but I'll try and explain what's happening. I can create some Artistic Text and use the Transparency Tool to give it a transparent gradient. All well and good. Then I can create another bit of Artistic Text elsewhere the page. However, the transparency gradient of the first bit of text has been copied over to the new text but in exactly the same place as it is in the first text, which means that the transparency gradient no longer covers the second text. Is this expected behaviour? It took me a while to figure out what was happening when I first saw this. I've attached a GIF to show what I mean.
  18. Hi, A hiccup in trying to use Affinity Photo in my pdf-to-EPUB processing workflow, in which all my text is being exported from my layout app as transparent background pdfs, to be converted in AP to png and resized. Every text box that has a feathered edge, is getting a hard outline at the outermost extent of the feather - ie where the feather is transparent. This same effect doesn't appear to occur in Photoshop. It occurs in AP with either a batch processor, or opening a single file. Attached is a comparison of the same file opened in both Photoshop and AP, with the same dpi and size settings for rendering. (the photoshop file has a layer of white added behind, to show up the lack of artefact. A white feathered box gets a white bounding outline. Any thoughts? (edit - genuine textbox from the book, not a statement towards the any reader of this ) thanks.
  19. Happy new year guys! I am in the middle of creating my first font (handwritten) and use Affinity Designer for designing the digits. However, the process is very tenacious right now. Since I'm new to font development, this is my current approach and setup. I created a document with a growing number of artboards, one artboard for each possible digit, ligature, symbol, and so on. I created each digit using a stroke with slightly varying line widths at the beginning and end. The program into which the digits are imported works with PDF, SVG, EPS among other (to me unknown) file formats – that's okay, because I can output each digit with the export persona named accordingly. SVG is the recommended file format. But I do run into some problems: The exported digit-files MUST NOT be exported as a path with a stroke The exported digit-files MUST consist of a single shape. The exported digit-files (even if points 1. and 2. were taken into account) as SVG are created with a white box in the size of the artboard around them, which lead to another step of selecting and deleting something manually that actually wasn't created in the first place while designing the digit. (The document is set up with the check for Transparent background under the Colour dialogue) I would have guessed now I can select all contents of the different artboards via shift+click in the layers palette and convert them with a single click on "Expand Stroke" - but this is not possible, because the selection is automatically limited to the artboards and not to the children. SelectChildrenOverMultipleArtboards.mov Furthermore, I would have liked to use an action/macro to merge the multiple curves of single letters like A, B, E or F into a single curve - but unfortunately the macro palette only exists in Affinity Photo, if I see it correctly. Does anyone have an idea how to convert the files without all the unnecessary additional effort/tasks? Cheers and have a nice day MrDoodlezz
  20. I am missing the transparency tool on the tool bar and it does not appear in the "Customize Tools" list as an option to add. Any suggestions please. Don
  21. This post relates to this discussion in regards to anti-aliasing: Here is why the "workaround" for anti-aliasing removal in exports as shown here does not work for me (or at least I do not know how to make it work...). I use AD for designing t-shirts which I upload in a PNG24 format to several websites. Most print on demand providers don't want any transparency in the uploaded files. Although the workaround via the "Coverage Map" in the "Blend Options" works on simple shapes, it does not seem to work as soon as masking or clipping come into play. I have created 4 donuts (PNG24 export): Donut 1) No anti-aliasing workaround used Donut 2) Anti-aliasing workaround used (no masking or clipping used - just the normal "fill"-option was used) Donut 3) Anti-aliasing workaround used on masked donut Donut 4) Anti-aliasing workaround used on clipped donut (textured clipped mask for "see through effect (layer used to mask with has the same blend options of course) As expected anti-aliasing was implemented on donut 1 after the export. The workaround works great on donut 2 as you can see. But when donut 3 is masked, transparent pixels appear on the export although the workaround was implemented on every object layer. Donut 4 was clipped. As you can see the border of the donut is fine (no anti-aliasing) but the textured mask (which has the same coverage map settings for "no anti-aliasing" of course) appears with transparent borders on the "see through"-parts. Am I doing something wrong? A simple "turn anti-aliasing on and off button" would be such a helpful option in my opinion. Since I create designs with allot of shapes and strokes it is a big pain to have to manually select all object layers and then set the right blend options every time. This would be a great new feature, since this topic seems to be discussed/ requested for years now. Here is the AD file if you want to have a look Anti-Aliasing Demo.afdesign Lookin g forward to your replies y'all Cheers!
  22. Hey guys, whenever I export in PNG-24 AD turns pixels into transparent pixels although I don't use transparency in AD itself. I have attached a picture of the exported PNG-24 file and the design in AD. I want to export in PNG format without transparency - how is this possible? I hope you guys can help Cheers!
  23. Hey guys, today I encountered this strange bug : If I copy a PNG from the browser to the clipboard and then use the command "New From Clipboard" to create a new document, a new document is generated where the image is reduced to a black background layer and additionally scaled smaller instead of the original image on a transparent background. Has anyone ever encountered this bug and knows why this happens? I have already tested copying different images and from different browsers, always with the same result. Many greetings MrDoodlezz
  24. Hello, I have a story with photos on every page. Parts of the photos are made transparent so that text, which is on top of the photo, is readable. When I export as a PDF for printing purposes, the transparency is not handled well. I believe that the appropriate PDF standard to accomplish this is the VT standard. Are there plans to support this PDF standard? If not, does anyone know a work around that I might use? At this point in time, I simply don't know how to control the transparency from Publisher (where it is great) to the PDF. Sincerely, Robin McLeod
  25. Hello! I wanted to back-check with the community if its just a problem on my end. While exporting a page with a transparent polka-dot pattern (25% transparency) I noticed that the transparency doesnt work once exported into a PDF file. Funnily enough, when I export the page as a PNG the transparency works... IN-APP DESIGN: EXPORT OPTIONS: PDF-FINAL RESULT:
