  1. Will Affinity Designer desktop ever have bitmap trace and offset functionality?
  2. Good day! Please tell me if Affinity Designer has a raster image autorouter to turn them into vectors, if there is, how to enable it, apply it?
  3. I really like Affinity Photo, or better said, I really want to like it, but the Pen Tool for me is anything but frustrating. I don't know how to put this into words so I'm going to give the example of "How I would do this if I'm using PS". Problem: I can't trace a line. Photoshop Solution: Choose Pen tool -> Click the 2 points you want to trace -> Switch to Brush Tool -> Choose the brush you want to use -> Hit Enter Key -> Line was created. Question: How can I do this in Affinity Photo? Why I feel is so counter-intuitive? Thank you beforehand.
  4. (This is as well a workaround for auto tracing, until Affinity Designer will include it in an upcoming version.) In this tutorial I will show you how you can prepare a scanned handdrawing with Affinity Photo for bitmap tracing, to get a result with smooth lines and less speckles. As Affinity Designer is currently not shipped with a built in feature for tracing bitmaps, I will use InkScape for vectorization of the image.
  5. So I purchased Affinity Designer for Mac and in all honesty it is amazing application and does 99% of what I need as a graphic designer. There is one thing missing! An IMAGE TRACE FUNCTION. This software would kill off Illustrator and would be perfect for any designer. Why haven't you added this feature yet? When will you add it? Will it be added? A lot of people can't afford Adobe's ridiculous prices and use not exactly legal methods to acquire its software. I love using Affinity Designer but its just LACKING ONE FUNCTION, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an Image trace function and quickly! Many thanks! Chris.
  6. Please can we get the feature of Auto Trace of Monochrome images into vector? Just as we have on CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator?
  7. Affinity Designer for Desktop feature requests: 1. Add a "Recents" or "Recent Files" panel/option to the Welcome Dialog to quickly open a recent project. 2. Add a tracing feature to create an outline or centerline vector image from an original raster image, with option to choose how many colors and nodes to use in creating the vector. I use Corel Draw to do this easily. This is especially useful for converting scanned or photographed hand-drawn text into a vector image. I'd love to have this feature in Designer.
  8. Please add image trace it will make the affinity suite very awesome , adobe illustrator has image trace so it would be very cool if you could add the option
  9. can you please guide me how to trace image from jpeg or pdf
  10. Hello... I know that y'all are working in the road map, and one of the features asked (trace bitmap).. Here I will give y'all a image that I would like that the quality of this be so good that can convert kind of this images... you can select another for examples... but I know that That one is pretty difficult. I tried different software and cannot give good result... Hope you can do better. Here is the image. Be creative in add tools for do this kind of stuff. I will love more affinity, I love it right now but I will love more with this and I know that many peoples too... Many software are not so good tracing small lines or objects... and cannot give smooth results in pretty curves. what y'all think. Thanks!
  11. Would be extremely useful to be able to set just a key shortcut (e.g. F1, F2, B, N, M, etc.) for viewing only a specific layer. Why would users need this? It would be extremely useful when tracing images so we can go back and forth between the source/reference image and what we are illustrating/vectorizing. It can be useful for users that draw after reference photos, so they need to see the reference photo instantly and go back to drawing. Why only one shortcut? / You can't just go and put the reference layer as the top layer and hide (uncheck) and show (check) whenever you want? It would be faster and more handy to have a simple one key shortcut like B or F3 that we can press to view the reference. If we don't press that shortcut anymore, it should go back (hide the reference photo/layer). Here's how it could work: So when the person presses the F3 key, it could show the reference layer. Could be also used for Before/After viewing of a design/illustration/painting/image/etc. What's your opinion on this? It should be implemented?
  12. In CorelDraw I can import a bitmap (say a JPG logo which has been copied so many times that it is long past the scruffy stage) and TRACE it. This function finds the edges and creates objects from them. It approximates the colours of fills and the end result is a vector graphic which can be edited back to its original condition. Also very useful for creating vector graphics from scanned drawings. Does AD have anything like this? - I can't see any references in the Help system (which has a lovely UI!) Which reminds me that I can't find any import options from Twain or WIA sources. Does AD have anything like this? - I can't see any references in the Help system (which has a lovely UI!)
  13. Is there a feature like CorelDraw's Trace photos or other graphics into vectors?
  14. Will Affinity Designer ever offer the possibility to Outline Strokes (not only for strokes made with the "Basic" set of vector brushes, but for any other vector brush, too) and / or the possibility to Trace an Image? This is what I miss most in Affinity Designer, compared to Illustrator. I can't imagine working with vectors without having these essential tools. ☹️ Just would like to know if there are any plans to make this and when. Thank you.
  15. Dear all, I'm sure that many of you already requested this feature and I was guessing where is located the function in the panel? Hoping is possible...Otherwise, what is the suggested alternative from the AD team? Thank you Pietro
  16. I would like a bitmap tracing feature in Designer. The feature would create a vector path based on the contrast of an image.
  17. I had to keep my Draw Plus loaded because of nice features that it has which Affinity does not. Strange that Affinity is basically a Serif Draw Plus upgrade but is missing important items. I load a lot of pictures in Draw and trace so I can save as a dxf or dwg to use in my cnc software for my router table. Since I bought Affinity and its workbook(which is pretty nice), I rarely use it as all the processes I do are in draw + tracing and saving as cad files. Hope this gets added. I have every serif product there is and always keep them updated. I just had to use Draw+ for the most basic stuff. I can open a .bmp file in Affinity but you cant save/export a BMP????? Thats just messed up. I did a search in the help and nothing there.
  18. Hi Guys, i use much 3 functions, such as Free transform, 3D extrude and autotrace in my projects, but, it's very difficult or impossible to do easily on Affinity! someone to know how i do it?
  19. Are there any updates on the Trace Tool? I found some info about it in a 2014 post that it was coming to affinity designer. But I think it isn't yet in the application. Any updates on a release or a test version?
  20. I just bought Affinity Designer yesterday. First of all, great job! I've been working in vector art for over a decade and I'm impressed with your innovation. The good: Your pen tools are far superior to anything else I have used thus far. Awesome set of shape tools - the most comprehensive so far. The visual controls to alter them save me a lot of time ie. rounded corners on the fly. Nice touch with the transparency tool - this was so frustrating in Adobe Illustrator. The customizable UI is sleek and intuitive The bad: Where is the line smoothing? Every vector illustration software I've ever used had this feature. It is standard workflow to 1)rough in your illustration, 2)smooth, then 3)hand edit the node handles. I found something promising in the node area called 'convert to smooth', but it actually added more nodes. This is the exact opposite of what smoothing should do! Where is the raster to vector trace equivalent? I looked everywhere and I can't figure this out. This is such a common function for artists working between mediums - you're basically excluding them right from he start. For reference check out Adobe Illustrator's powerful image trace palette. Restrain proportions/dimensions when resizing elements is not consistent. Placed images and text will stay proportional by holding down ALT. Everything else stays proportional while holding down shift. Why the inconsistency? I can't seem to figure out how to lock objects without having to go to the layer palette and doing it manually. Thanks for the hard work! I've been in software development for 12 years. I know the sacrifices made and wish you the best of luck.
  21. Hello, I just downloaded the free trial of Affinity Designer and I'm trying to figure out if I'm missing something or if it's unavailable. I'm looking for an image trace option to take hand lettered sayings into scaleable vectors. I normally use Adobe Illustrator for this option but I can't afford the $20/month. This looks like a beautiful program so please, please have this!
  22. Hello there. First of all, please note: the original sketch was made by wonderful Dannith. She granted me permission to use her drawing for inking and coloring. Be sure to visit her gallery, she's very talented! Link to DeviantArt page. Red is a character from Transistor game. You might have heard of it or even played it ;) I used Affinity Designer to do my part. Don't know what else to say. Enjoy the artwork, I guess)
  23. Since a trace/vectorize function isn't likely to be added to AD anytime soon, as an alternative I downloaded the free trial of Super Vectorize & tested it with a variety of images. It seems to do a reasonably good job but since export is disabled in the free trial, I don't have any way of knowing how many nodes it creates for SVG exported from the app. I don't mind importing the SVG's into AD to do a little clean up & simplification if the paths are not overly complex, but if there is no way to control that then the app would not be worth purchasing, even at the current reduced price of $20 US. Can anybody tell me how well it does in this respect?
  24. So where is the trace function? Inkscape seems totally dead now and there is no way around Adobe on Mac if one needs to trace bitmaps it seems. Or are there any good news on that feature yet?
