  1. Hi, I've had Affinity for about a week now and as an /affordable/ piece of software, I am loving it. Also bringing back memories of work experience several years ago at Wilford industrial estate... ;) but anyway, on to the problem.... Having a little bit of trouble with the full justify option - it just doesn't do anything attractive for my layout at all. Expecting it to space out my words nicely stretching across the full width of the frame and instead it's just adding a massive gap between the last two in the text frame! Not sure if there are settings to correct this or if the tool simply doesn't work as expected. Can anyone clarify what's going on with this one? Thanks.

    Warping Text onto a wave

Some time ago I presented a formula to plug into Equations to warp text along a wavy baseline. I promised to create a macro to perform this, but never got round to it. Well here is that macro and a library containing it. Wavy Text.afmacro Wavy Text.afmacros The transformation is just a sine/cosine curve: y=y-(h*a/3)*(b*sin(360*x/w/c)+(1-b)*cos(360*x/w/c)) The a parameter determines the amplitude. The default is a=0.5, which creates a wave that reaches about half way to the top and bottom of the layer. The b parameter shifts the position of te wave along the horizontal axis. The c parameter affects the wavelength. Reducing c gives more waves along the x-axis. If you start with a text layer such as: and apply the macro with the default parameters, you get: The macro is designed to operate on a text object on a background. It needs the background to give it room. It begins by rasterizing the text to a pixel layer. It uses the height and width of the background layer to determine the amplitude and wavelength, not the height and width of the text itself. To use this, I would suggest creating a new document of a size to hold the text, then warp it, then place or copy it into the target document with an appropriate blending mode. John
  3. Hi, I'm new to affinity designer although I have been using affinity photo for a while. I'm needing to convert some type to outlines. Bit confused- is converting to 'curves' the same as converting to outlines and how do I do it? Thanks!
  4. Experimenting with frame text in Affinity Publisher Beta, it does not seem possible to select a portion of text, and then drag and drop that selection from one place to another within a story. Of course, one can always cut, move the cursor, and then paste; but it would be useful to simply select -- say -- an entire paragraph, or a sentence, and drag-and-drop it to a new location.
  5. Hi, I'm floundering here. I've watched the masking videos but I must be missing the answer. I have created text, applied a background using Place, reduced opacity so I can see the background through the text ... but I now want to get rid of the non text background to leave myself with lettering on a transparent background. I can't find a video that deals with this. Guidance welcome.
  6. I was wondering if it was possible to warp text in Designer. I attached an image with what I am trying to accomplish.
  7. Hi, is there any possibility in Affinity Photo to bend a text? Or even "text on a path"?
  8. Hello there, I want to report a potential bug in the rendering of Khmer script in AP/AD. Using some Khmer fonts, AP/AD render the text incorrectly. Using other fonts, AP/AD render the text correctly. The example below is taken from a screen grab on MacOS in Affinity Photo using an offending font. This screen grab is the same font in Pages on MacOS. It renders correctly: This screen grab is a different Khmer font in Affinity Photo, which renders correctly. Lastly, here are both fonts, both the one that renders incorrectly, and another that renders correctly: http://preahkumpii.com/preahkumpii/misc/ap-khmer-issue/renders-incorrectly-in-ap.ttf http://preahkumpii.com/preahkumpii/misc/ap-khmer-issue/renders-correctly-in-ap.ttf Thanks for your help in looking into this issue. 9. This is a very annoying bug. Almost everytime I'm resizing a text zone by double clicking on its border to make it fit the text Affinity designer crashes. Am I the only one ?
  10. As a user I like to define symbols and then alter the text of the instances. This would vastely improve the reusability of symbols. (See Adobe XD, Gravit Designer)
  11. Delete and backspace do not work when editing text on a curve. You have to drag select the area you want to edit and delete it or replace it with the correction.
  12. I need the be able to warp text similar to the way Star Wars utilizes it in the intro. See attached image
  13. Hello, I'm sure this must be possible but I cannot find it: How can I add a link (in particular a http(s):// url and a mailto: link) to a text? So that clicking on the text in the exported PDF opens the web browser / e-mail client (or does whatever else is configured for the PDF viewer for such links). Thanks
  14. I looked for a way to do this, but couldn't find any. I like to link an image to an exact place in a text, that is behind this image. I like the possibility of defining, how the text flows around the image. But when I add new Text before the image, I have to rearrange the image to keep it in the same place. If I could stick it to the text-position, I could work a lot more with connected textboxes.
  15. hi , please add support to write in arabic in both affinity designer and affinity photo , because when I am trying to write in arabic the letters doesn't look good , please fix that as fastest as possible
  16. I need to warp text like they do in the Star Wars intro. I can’t figure it out. See the example. Howwwww?
  17. Hello there! I am currently trying to resize an existing artboard to an exact value using the transform panel, however I can't get the textframes to scale with the artboard, rather than just changing the frame size. When I use the "scale handle" and "manually" resize the artboard, it works just fine. How would I go about doing it with the transform panel? I have this question also over on stackexchange: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/120555/affinity-designer-how-do-i-make-textframes-scale-with-the-artboard-if-i-scale-b Also attached you should find a gif demonstrating the issue I am facing.
  18. I have just updated my affinity design and the behavior of the text bloc as changed. How can resize my text bloc without scaling its content ? I dont want to manually insert line return each time I want to change the size of the text bloc. Thanks
  19. Hi, I have tried alot to find out the text arching features like lower arching upper arching features in Affinity Designer as well as free transforming of texts but all in vain. Examples of which I have attached(taken from google). So far I have to use adobee illustrator to do these arching and transforming and take it back to affinity designer which is really time consuming. Is there this feature already or are you guys planning to release it anytime soon? Its a big let downbecause so important these features are
  20. I'm on a Win10 computer. I'm an affinity photo newbie I'm working on a book cover and I want to have a sort of marbleizing of color, or a swirl of a darker shade within the color of the text of the title. I've tried adding shadows, and I can do that to the outside of the text, but not having much luck on the inside.
  21. When I create a Title on my project (a book cover), I can click on "character" to change the size etc. But how can I do this to only one letter? I want to enlarge the First Letter of each word, but if I use a select tool to select only that letter, the character items don't work. I tried just selecting the letter, then clicking on "move" but only the selection box changes size, not the letter? Obviously I'm missing something
  22. Hi, Starting this topic on request from your reply on my tweet: https://twitter.com/affinitybyserif/status/1097431968562769921 So I have a multiline text that has the "Justified All" property set for text alignment. As you can see in the video, depending on the zoom level of the viewport, the text behaves in a weird manner. As if at some zoom the text is displayed as expected, at some other zoom the first line ignores the Justified All property, and in between there is a glitch that displays half of the text correctly, and half of the text wrong. When exporting, with these dimensions, I got the half/half result. This issue was pretty annoying, and my workaround was to create multiple text layers instead of one multiline. I included the .afphoto document to this thread, as well as the video and screenshot I posted on Twitter. Hope this helps to investigate the issue, as it is very annoying. Best regards, Jordan Enregistrement_de_l’écran_2019-02-16_à_17_30_24.mov Thumbnail-WTF.afphoto
  23. I have a .psd created in photoshop elements. It opens ok in Affinity photo. I am having trouble getting the exported pdf to show text as a vector (with zero pixelation when zoomed in). Can you please tell me what settings I should use during export to make sure text has zero pixelation when zoomed in? When I export the same .psd using photoshop elements, the resulting .pdf renders the text as a vector so I know its not a problem with my design setup. Also my print company recommends pdf/x-4 as the output profile but that preset in affinity photo produces a text with pixelated edges. The only change I made to the psd file in affinity photo was a conversion to cmyk color profile. I would like to start using affinity photo by default but need to be able to confidently render psd files to pdf with the text output as vector with no pixelation. Also I notice when I change the setting to "no rasterization" when outputting to pdf from .psd, it ignores any clipping masks applied so the image is not as intended. Can you please advise settings to try in this situation. Thanks so much.
  24. I can not find a text style picker in Affinity publisher, it would be nice if that function comes with it in the future?
  25. Hi everybody, I'm sorry to ask a probably simple question: When I use the 'artistic text' tool, the letter are shown in pink color regardless of the Font Colour setting in the panel. The text shows the chosen color only if I switch to 'Preview Mode'. When I use the 'Frame Text Tool' the letters are shown in their original color. There is just a pink frame around the text. As soon as I switch to 'Preview Mode' the pink frame disappears. Question: Is there a way to get rid of the Pink Colour for artistic text in Non-Preview Mode. It looks ugly and is distracting but I don't want to work in Preview Mode. Thanks for help wuerdentraeger
