  1. 1st of all, amazing build of the 2.0 version! Love the addition of data merge. As well as the other aspects in the Suite 😃 I have however 1 question/request for the Software suite (all 3 of them). The ability to change the UI when working on Windows. As I work mostly remote on my Surface Pro. I find it many times handy working with the pen. However the UI on Windows is build on mouse and Keyboard work. Is it possible to add an addition to the UI, where you have the ability to change the UI based on mouse/keyboard work or Tablet/Pen work/view. (As UI the Ipad has probably an amazing UI/UX experience, this could be something as base) This by example with a click on an icon in the Toolbar or in view. By not having loads of money for an Ipad, it sure would be amazing to have this added in a future update. 🙂
  2. I'm not aware of any plans to take Affinity Suite to the Surface Pro X market. I REEALLLLY would like to hear how wrong I am on this topic, but at this point in time all searches end in a kind of 'Sorry, Charlie...' result. (frownie-face) I am a cartoonist and designer and all three programs fit my creative wheelhouse very well. The thing that has me in a knot is that my surface pro x solves all problems I had with my previous computer except for ONE aspect. Affinity Publisher. Can I depend on Affinity of Serif staff to make Affinity Publisher available on iPAD Pro FINally? Or will the suite be made available for the ARM based technology. Is this a hush hush secret? Will I have to resign myself to borrowing my neighbor's computer everytime I want to create a publishing based document?! (I won't actually do that; I'll simply have to settle for doing everything in Microsoft Publisher. No comparison. ANyway, thank you for allowing me at least this space to make my desires and frustrations known. And please, if anyone empathizes with my plight, and has UPDATED information for the year 2021 or by the time this might be seen 2022...Please - make it known. I'd love to know, because as it stands this is the computer i'll have for the next few years and I'll simply not be able to load any of the three onto this computer for the forseeable future. Sorry Charlie....
  3. I've came across this issue with the Pen Tool and stylus devices. If you try to draw straight lines with sharp nodes, very often you'll inadvertedly create smooth points instead. I've first noticed this on my Surface Pro 4, but I've also been able to replicate it on my desktop PC with very different hardware. At first I thought it was Windows Ink causing the issue since a similar bug was happening in previous versions, but switching to High Precision or Low Precision does not fix the issue. The 'trick' seems to be the rhythm at which you lay down the points? This is easier to replicate on the Surface Pro and it's pen, or at least it happens more often, seems like a somewhat fast laying down of points trigger this more often? On the desktop seems to be the opposite, slow and deliberate points seem to convert to smooth more often. I also got the feeling the longer the program runs, the more likely it is to trigger unwanted smooth points. Attached are videos showing the issue happening in both hardware / software combinations. There needs to be a higher 'dead zone' before sharp points transition to smooth points, otherwise it's a pain to deal with using the Pen Tool. Thanks! This first video is the Surface Pro 4 + Surface Pen + Windows Ink, while the second video is Desktop PC + Wacom Intuos + High Precision. 4. I recently bought a Surface Pro with the intent of using it for design work. I know that Serif recently released Affinity Designer on the Windows Store, but I still had an extra machine on my license, and the only way to obtain the Windows Store version was to buy it all over again. So I just downloaded the PC version from Serif's site and plugged my code in. I've been trying and trying and I can't quite adapt to Designer on a touchscreen, like I did easily with Clip Studio Paint's Surface interface. If there are any undo/redo, zoom, etc gestures, I can't find them. I can't tell if there are settings within Designer I can't find that will make for an easier Tablet Mode experience, or if I've yet to properly optimize my device itself for art/design work (I hear people talk about using plug-ins that make the Surface Pen's button deploy a radial menu, but I've had no luck finding anything specific). Or did I mess up downloading (and applying my license to) the version downloaded from the website; is it only the Windows Store version that's touchscreen-friendly?
  5. Pen Pressure Opacity Settings for (1.7 Update): Affinity Photo/Designer - Pen Opacity Pressure Settings (As of the 1.7 Update): you do not need to adjust Flow or set Flow to "Pressure," to affect Pen Opacity Pressure. - All you need to do (via the Context Menu with the Brush selected) is: 1. select "MORE" 2. choose "Dynamics" 3. adjust the "ACCUMULATION" slider to 100% and select "Pressure" from the drop down. 4. Make sure the "Force Size button" is OFF, via the Context Menu; unless you want your brush pressure to affect both size and opacity at the same time, (which isn't uncommon when used with painting &/or blending). Note: you can also set the size to None via the drop-down menu for size in under More/Dynamics. Note: you may have to do this if you're using custom created brushes, such as some brushes made from Daub. Affinity Photo/Designer - Advanced Pen Opacity Brush Settings & downloaded/purchased Custom Brushes: 5. Advanced Pen Opacity Pressure: under (Brush/Context Menu/More Button/ Dynamics Tab/ACCUMULATION - Set to 100% & Drop Down to "Pressure)" you can also change the "Curve". The best curve to use is the same one for "size." The Curve button is to the "Right" of the Drop-Down menu in the Brush/More/Dynamics tab. Select a curve and try different curve alignments or create your own. The best one or rather for normal one you would expect (as in Adobe PS) is the curve alignment all the way to the Right (which again, is the same Curve used for Pen Size Pressure). 6. Download/Purchased Brushes and Opacity (very important especially for Designer): a lot of brushes already have multiple settings created from those downloaded, purchased or inherently part of Designer. However, older brushes not made specifically for the 1.7 Affinity update may need some adjusting. Flow and Accumulation are the two biggest sliders you must pay attention to if a brush does not behave correctly as it may have in previous additions of Affinity. Example: Daub | Essentials Brush Pack. Some brushes will need tweaking. I suggest coping the brush from the original and adjusting those there in (and Flow), as needed. That way you can save them and back them up as well! Hope this helps – Johnny K PS. Sorry for being so "obvious in my descriptions. I want to be clear with those whom never used Affinity before &/or those coming from Adobe. As I mentioned, Affinity really need to get with the program of adding a "FORCE OPACITY BUTTON" to the context menu as they did for Size and list "OPACITY" in the Brush/Context Menu/More Button/Dynamics with all controls, menus and curve alignments as they do for other brush properties. Kinda ridiculous this hasn't been addressed yet! * I will also try and get photos with # descriptions posted here in asap, if it is requested. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While I'm writing a small book... Dear Affinity, Affinity needs to have a "OPACITY preset, under Brush Dynamics" with the brushes customary controls; Example: Typical settings under Dynamics such as: % Slider / Type (None, Random, "Pressure," ect), for both Photo & Designer. If Accumulation is Opacity (though it acts like opacity, it shouldn't be), then change the name, it's confusing. Pen Size and Pen Opacity are the most commonly used setting and not just for pen strokes! Also... a Pen: "Force to Opacity - Button," as there is now for Brush Pen Size is greatly need also. Perhaps you might want both settings on also; as this is "again," commonly used and it shouldn't be a headache to figure out. Again, Opacity & Size (pen, pen pressure, or mouse), are the two most commonly used brush features/settings needed for brush strokes and much, much more! Right now, is the best time to beat Adobe but, the jumping through hoops, having to write a book in the forums, for one of the most needed settings of a Pen Pressure "Opacity"effect is reDONKulous and kinda annoying! Severely Ridiculous; common guys & girls! BTW... Don't mistake me. I love what you are doing with Affinity, overall. That said, it would be lovely if the new Publisher "Studiolink feature," worked in 3 programs. Designer needs the Channels Palette ... just as Photo needs more brush painting abilities' that are in Designer! Couldn't a channels palette be brought in Designer via the Studiolink feature or simply put in Designer's Pixel Persona. This is another commonly used design feature, missing from your core designer program, (no pun intended)! How & why is there no channels palette in Designer? And if for some reason Designer can't support channels, then Photo needs a serious revamp, so it can Paint more effectively like Photoshop (which to be honest, wouldn't hurt doing so regardless). Photo feels like a after thought compared to Designer, with the exception of missing key elements, already mentioned. With all sincerity - J
  6. Hello, I searched prior posts but didn't see anything similar to my question / issue and apologize if a Forum Guru is about to point me to a pre-existing thread. When working in Affinity Designer on the Surface Pro (specs below) I experience significant CPU spikes when working with the Surface Pen. For example, if I create a square shape and use the track-pad or any Bluetooth mouse to resize the shape I see very little change to the amount of CPU required to perform the tast. Similarly, if I resize the shape using my finger via touchscreen... very little CPU require. However, if I perform the same task using the Surface Pen (both when connected via BT and not) the CPU spikes and runs close to 100%. I confirmed that it's Affinity Designer that is requiring the CPU and not a Microsoft process / pen tool feature. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried about overheating due to utilizing the Surface Pen in AD. Computer Specs: Surface Pro 6th Gen SSD 512MB 16GB RAM i7-8650U Intel UHD Graphics 620
  7. It has been pointed out numerous times since this was released for Windows 10.... they have not added use of the button on the pen. It makes using the device as often intended (in tablet) impossible for many features like clone. I'm glad they could make sure to have this working for the iPad Pro, but a year later we are still begging for this to be fixed. This is embarrassing.
  8. I'm a web developer preparing to go freelance and start my own business. I'm using Affinity Designer for all my UX/UI design work and am now looking for a new device to use at client meetings. Surface Pro fits my needs, and as a Microsoft fan I've always aspired to one. Ideally I'd have the i5/8GB version, but I'd rather not spend >£1000 and then have to still go buy the Type Cover + Pen. Right now, Amazon UK has the core m3 with the Type Cover in a bundle for £620 (was £600 on Black Friday). Trouble is, I can't find a demo unit anywhere, and actual reviews of the m3 unit are rather lacking. The device really won't need to do much, besides "give the right impression" (i.e., look good) to clients. I see it mostly sitting on the desk while we discuss the brief and I share prototypes of designs. The most intensive app it will ever need to run is Affinity Designer, but even then it's unlikely I'll be doing much actual editing while I'm sitting with the client. So... anyone here use Affinity Designer on a Surface Pro 2017 core M3 (or anything comparable to an m3/4GB combination), and how well/badly does it run? Should I see sense and admit that whatever I buy won't see much "active" use, or is m3/4GB as big a potential issue as I'm making it seem? For comparison's sake, I'm currently using Affinity Designer on an i7-7700K/32GB setup, with 3440x1440 AOC 34-inch ultrawide.
  9. I know several of the staff at Serif are using the Surface Pro 4 tablet. I am looking to buy either the I5 or I7 model with 8 GB Ram having just returned the Wacom Mobilestudio Pro 13 that I bought before Christmas. For use with Affinity Photo, is there a noticeable performance difference between the I5 and I7 when using Affinity Photo with multilayered files. Some of my Photoshop PSD files are over 1 GB in size Many thanks
  10. I just installed Designer on a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 and am unable to use pressure sensitive brushes when using the Surface pen. I selected a solid brush with pressure and opacity from the Assorted draw, and set a Pressure profile in Strokes. Is there some other setting I've missed?
  11. First impressions of Designer for Windows. Congrats to the team. I'm using a surface pro 4 with docking station and 2nd monitor (1920 px). When using designer on this second monitor,i have scaling problems. The UI is fine, but cursors, hint boxes and some dialog boxes seems scaled at 200% (to big). Also, when i'm using shortcuts for switching the program to the second monitor, the program doesn't fit on this monitor but flows over to the first for a part. When using fill after drawing a rectangle: sometimes i can't use a color fill. When using a gradiënt fill and i want to change the gradiënt color, often i can't change the fade colors. If i can, sometimes i have to chose a color from the HSL triangle first. If i choose a color from the circle first, no color change is applied. When i change the color presets (preferences) and close the program, the change is not remembered (fi CMYK profile changed in Euroscale, after reopening designer the US Web Coated profile is active again. Apologize for my Englisch, it's not my native language. Keep you posted.
