  1. I'm using the entire affinity suite on windows on a SurfaceBook. I keep having a problem where my Samsung pen will suddenly just stop responding on the screen. Usually this is in Photo because I'm masking images. I not only have to close out the program, but then have to totally restart the computer in order for the program to recognize it again. And then I have to repeat this every 15 minutes or so. I've had a problem in the past of the program lagging when it's getting a little overheated because I'm not properly getting air flow, but in that case I would just have to stop for a few minutes and cool it down. Any ideas on what the issue is? Thanks
  2. I can't even begin to explain how useful an Affinity alternative to the Quickshape (Procreate) or Snapline (Adobe) feature would be. 😊 The ability to draw a pixel line, circle, or rectangle by hand, and then hold the stylus/mouse down for a second for it to become a 'perfect' shape. It would be a total game changer and save so much time, especially for anyone using Affinity apps for illustration or digital artwork.
  3. I've came across this issue with the Pen Tool and stylus devices. If you try to draw straight lines with sharp nodes, very often you'll inadvertedly create smooth points instead. I've first noticed this on my Surface Pro 4, but I've also been able to replicate it on my desktop PC with very different hardware. At first I thought it was Windows Ink causing the issue since a similar bug was happening in previous versions, but switching to High Precision or Low Precision does not fix the issue. The 'trick' seems to be the rhythm at which you lay down the points? This is easier to replicate on the Surface Pro and it's pen, or at least it happens more often, seems like a somewhat fast laying down of points trigger this more often? On the desktop seems to be the opposite, slow and deliberate points seem to convert to smooth more often. I also got the feeling the longer the program runs, the more likely it is to trigger unwanted smooth points. Attached are videos showing the issue happening in both hardware / software combinations. There needs to be a higher 'dead zone' before sharp points transition to smooth points, otherwise it's a pain to deal with using the Pen Tool. Thanks! This first video is the Surface Pro 4 + Surface Pen + Windows Ink, while the second video is Desktop PC + Wacom Intuos + High Precision. 4. Hi Affinity Forum. Question about Affinity Photo, please. Is there any way to pull up the color wheel on demand wherever the cursor happens to be at the time, even if the wheel already appears in the panels off to the side? Perhaps it could be a shortcut key combo. Or better yet, maybe it could be simply clicking the button on a Wacom stylus. I know this button does the trick in Photoshop, and it’s extremely helpful in digital painting. So far, I haven’t found this feature in Affinity Photo. If it exists, could someone please let me know where it is? Thanks!
  5. It would be great if there was a pen / stylus only mode like in some drawing apps. This would allow the user to draw, paint and work on the canvas. At the moment it senses whenever you touch the screen making using a pen with a touchscreen very difficult.
  6. Hi, I'm trying to explore if my Affinity Photo is good enough for drawing and, while it draws smooth line at the first glance, when I zoom in I can see how the lines are made of small straight lines and it's not acceptable quality in my opinion. It seems like the "read" ratio from the input device is discarded way too much in my opinion. I report this as a bug because other drawing apps I'm testing using the same tablet on the same Mac make perfectly smooth lines (without any smoothing tool enabled within the app). As an example, I share two screenshots of the same text drawn in AP and in Krita just for comparison (I've pointed areas where the issue is more visible using a red arrow): KRITA: Affinity Photo:
  7. Stylus input on desktop (Mac) isn't nearly as smooth as on iPad, no matter what tablet drawing brand you use (I've tried a few). I've brought this up before, and it's kind of a biggie, considering there's a ton of illustrators, designers, photo retouchers/editors, using drawing/graphics tablets for their work. Some some reason this only happens with Affinity apps, and I haven't had this issue with any other graphics software. It's not a deal breaker per se, but it's very notable, and if you use a drawing tablet most of the day for your work, it can get quite frustrating (and could potentially put future users off of using the apps altogether). Furthermore, if you want to compete with the industry leaders (*cough Adobe), then you need to ensure that your stylus/pen input engine is pristine or at least on par with something like the industry standard, Photoshop. For some reason the pressure sensitivity has a tendency to spike or be slightly inaccurate and the lines aren't as smooth as they should be (often with small, but notable kinks and jitter). This is also very notable when using the Freehand Selection tool with a tablet. It's even more prevalent the more you zoom out of your canvas, causing weird jagged 90 and 45 degree angles in your lines/selections - almost as if the pen cursor is snapping to an invisible grid 90/45 degree grid. I usually do not work very zoomed in, so this can get very problematic throughout the work process, causing unwanted kinks and jagged lines which I've never experienced with any other drawing apps. To combat this, I've been using a third party plugin called Hej Stylus (hejstylus.com), and the pen input from my drawing tablet on desktop has been so much better within the Affinity apps while using it. It overrides the apps' default pen input in Affinity and replaces it with Hej Stylus's settings, which are much nicer and more accurate. When using the Hej Stylus app, I keep all the settings at an absolute minimum so that there isn't any additional smoothing, and all the app essentially does is override the default input. I don't necessarily want to use a third party app when working, but I'm doing it out of necessity. I think it's important to note that a desktop drawing tablet is a lot different from an iPad/Apple Pencil combo. The desktop styli/pens act differently and require different settings to perform the way that they should. Perhaps there's a way to get Eilert (the dev over at Hej Stylus) on board to help sort out the stylus input issues in Affinity apps. Sorry to keep going on about this, but as someone who uses a drawing tablet on desktop for ALL my work (as very many illustrators do), I really want to keep using Affinity without any tedious workarounds which takes extra time, and ultimately costs me and my clients money. Really hoping for a fix in the next update!! I've attached a screenshot here of the issue, and also attached the file: HejStylus Test.afphoto
  8. I just bought the affinity photo a day ago. And I was playing with it (I'm a newcomer in drawing and in affinity photo). The problem that I have is that when I'm using the brush tool and I just barely hover over the tablet (a HUION H420) the brush activates and let some pesky ink dots in my canvas. Now, maybe it could be the pen nib that is already a bit used. If someone had this problem before, please, tell me how to fix it because I find it annoying.
  9. Please add support for input devices other than the pencil. I use an Adonit pixel with my ipad 2017. It works well with other drawing apps on my ipad and it would make affinity designer much more functional. Thanks
  10. I have only been able to find the last post dated from july 30/18 on the subject, at that time mentions no other stylus's work with AF. Is there an update to that and a stylus that will now work with Affinity Photo on my 5th gen Ipad? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)
  11. Hello, What happened to the feature on Ipad that color picker appears when I press the pen 2sec on the screen? It was really useful in my workflow for blending colours... How can I pick/blend colors in the easiest and most efficient way now? Thanks, N.
  12. Here is a copy of the review I wrote for the iPad version as I just dont wanna have to type it all up again. Currently on 5th Gen iPad (non pro) with Adonit Pixel Stylus (unsupported by app) I use the app a lot and it is comparable to adobe illustrator for ipad. I do have a few gripes with it though. If you do not have an iPad Pro then you are pretty screwed. It does not support any 3rd party stylus pressure sensitivity and since a normal iPad only supports 3rd party stylus, you might as well be using your finger. I own an Adonit Pixel which is top of the line but yah not supported by Affinity Designer. Also the App was crashing all the time for me and freezing up and it took me a while to figure out that it was because I was trying to work on a large file size. I would image it might be more stable on the pro but I don’t know. So if you need to print in high resolution for posters or what ever, you need to work in low res and then export it as a high resolution (just took me a while and a lot of frustration to figure out what was causing all the freeze ups). I like that they give you freedom on document size but they should make it clear that high file size might cause instability, I wanted to throw my iPad through a wall a few times and if they just made that clear it would have saved me a lot of frustration. So to sum it up, probably fantastic if you own an iPad Pro but leaves a lot to be desired on a normal current gen iPad sadly. Also looks like they only update it like once every 2 months it seems not sure why they are not giving the iPad version much love. I would much rather have a good version on my iPad than on a macbook or what ever. 3/5 stars - I would give this 5 stars if they added 3rd party stylus support/pressure sensitivity and I dinged an extra star for all the frustrations I went through figuring out what was causing the freezing/crashes.
  13. It has been pointed out numerous times since this was released for Windows 10.... they have not added use of the button on the pen. It makes using the device as often intended (in tablet) impossible for many features like clone. I'm glad they could make sure to have this working for the iPad Pro, but a year later we are still begging for this to be fixed. This is embarrassing.
  14. Hi: Is there any way I can use a Huinonn1060 Plus with Affintiy Photo? Are there special drivers required? Generic drivers? Temp work arounds? thank you Donald
  15. I just purchased Affinity Photo for windows and cant wait to get started drawing. I noticed as soon as I hover over the screen with the stylus it acts like the hand tool dragging the canvas all over the place. Is there an area I need to configure settings to stop this from happing?
  16. I have used a wacom tablet successfully for many years now in Pageplus and Photoplus. They give me just the right amount of control. Now I am making good progress in Affinity Photo and gradually learning to do the same tasks as I previously did in Photoplus. This may be due to me remaining with Windows 7 64bit and it possibly is due to other causes but I do have the inconvenience of having the stylus failing to work properly in the new application and I have to resort to the use of the mouse for selections and to make choices from the menus. I would be interested to learn if anyone else has had a similar result with a tablet stylus. John
  17. Loving Affinity so far! A quirk I can't find any info on in this forum relates to the appearance of the brush head when using the Surface Pen. (I'm on a Windows 10 Surface Studio.) When selecting the overlay tool, my mouse's cursor will display the brush as I manipulate it around the file; when using the Pen it shows nothing -- though the tool itself still paints on the image. Any ideas? Thanks!
  18. Hi, Does anyone know if Affinity will have the support for the Wacom Bamboo Sketch stylus on the ipad in the near future? I'm currently using the apple pencil but it feels like I'm scratching on wood with it. There's only a handful of apps that support the Bamboo Sketch I was hoping Affinity would soon have the support as well. Or am I barking up the wrong tree, is it Wacom I should be approaching for this?
  19. Hello, In an effort to transition from Photoshop to Photo, I thought I'd try to at least establish a freehand sketch for a design I'm working on in Photo rather than Photoshop. I tend to use a simple hard round brush with shape dynamics enabled in PS and Jitter determined by Pen Pressure. With Photo, I've selected an equivalent brush under the Basics and set Size Jitter to Pressure under Dynamics. So far so good. The problem I'm experiencing is that when I sketch a freehand curved line in Photo, the precision isn't quite there. The curve I draw is often made up of a series of small (and sometimes not so small) straight lines rather than following the pen exactly. It's as if the software is unable to keep up with the pen and interpolates between two points along the movement of the pen. Photoshop doesn't do this. Has anyone experienced this? Is it a known issue and if so, will it be addressed? Having the line follow the pen exactly is critical Thanks, -grant

  21. Pen latency has been on my mind since the new Surface Pro and iPad Pro were announced. I enjoy drawing in Affinity Designer with the brush tool, and I really like some of the fancier brushes, but the appearance of new lines always lags behind my drawing pretty drastically. When using elaborate brushes, would it be practical for Affinity Designer to draw a plain, unstyled line under the stylus immediately and then draw the fancy brush version over it?
  22. I am interested in a STYLUS that will work on my iPad Air 2 . Would this be a tool to use for editing with Affinity?
  23. Hi, Does anyone have any experiences of using an iPad with a stylus as a graphics tablet for Design, Photo or really any other software on their computer where using a pen is better. I've narrowed it down to the following three apps 1. Astropad Graphics Tablet 2. Air Display 3 3. Duet Display I've bought the Bamboo Fineline 2 stylus which works quite nicely on the ipad in different apps. I downloaded the Astropad mini (free) which says you can't use it on the ipad, but actually you can draw behind the big splash screen to test it out. It flows very nicely without any noticable lag for me. I felt the flow of drawing, and it translated to the computer screen with ease. I tested it with AD, AP & Mischief (free version). The only drawback I see is that when something moves it pixelates coarsely, so videos are grainy, but also the "running ants" selection is blurred in AD and AP. I also downloaded Air Login - from the same company as Air Display 3 - which was very laggy, although I don't know if AD3 works with the same connection. (I'm mailing with the maker.) I haven't been able to check out Duet Display. What's you're story? cheers, Luke
  24. I wish there is a better and more precise cursor in the next update. (At least a crosshair option available) As in the attached gif file. It's hard to see the center point of the cursor and also the size of the brush related to my stylus pressure (I'm using Wacom tablet).
