  1. Background: I've been using InDesign since version 1.0 jumping away from PageMaker and Quark 3.0. My studio uses InDesign six days a week and builds publications from one page to 50 regularly. I'm going to document my test of Affinity Publisher, and I would be interested in how it is going for other studios. Is anyone planning on making the switch before the beta ends? My reasons for looking at alternatives are price and cloud integration. Adobe increased the CC subscription price. Stinky, but what bothers me more is the constant need to integrate the cloud. Every day I wait for the InDesign font-sync to load. Grab a coffee and cookie. Before that was active hyperlink checking. It's a constant problem. My Adobe subscription renews in three weeks. Perfect time for a serious workflow test. Day 1: Download and test 14 page document test. Quickly learned that layers aren't right, but found out that layers will be adjusted in future versions. Day 2: Single page flier test Typesetting a quick color form. No layers. I enjoyed the experience. Good Tabs Alignment Paragraph styles Clip to canvas (love it; some of us like to use preview in InDesign. Some like regular view. This is a happy medium). Bad No padding in a text frame (I didn't see it) I didn't see a way to make a non-breaking space

  3. I have been recreating a novel previously layed out in PagePlus. I am copying and pasting and re-editing from PP to APub. The project contains about 200 pages, 6 master pages. With the Pages and Layers tabs docked in the same area on the right be default, I found it quick to switch from Pages to Layers, but very slow moving from Layers to Pages. It seems to take a long time for APub to rescan all the pages and repositiion to the current page. This became so tiresome, that I moved the Layers tab to dock with Assets, Text Styles, Character, Paragraph tabs on the right side of the window. This has been the case in all the Beta versions I have worked with.

Hi guys, I know I'm probably in the minority here, but as a former longtime Windows PC user, all my Macs get the "tab between all elements” treatment (using the Ctrl+F7 shortcut), and I'm the master nitpicker when it comes to finding inconsistencies in the tabbing implementation because I happen to use the Tab key *a lot* (that's also what having two big screens and losing your mouse cursor a lot on a daily basis, even with El Capitan's “shake cursor to enlarge” function, does to you). This time, I realised two things: 1. When tabbing between fields and interface elements in the “New Document” window, I can never get to the four separators on the bottom half; 2. The little “Presets” button, with the four horizontal lines and the down arrow and to the right-hand side of the “Page Preset” drop-down menu, is never visually highlighted, though it is indeed selectable; also, when pressing the spacebar, the corresponding menu will not open adjacent to said button but underneath wherever the mouse cursor is; furthermore, this behaviour is reproducible in all Beta Affinity apps. So, yep, that's about it. If I can reproduce any of these behaviours elsewhere in Publisher, I'll let you know.
  5. Hi there, I am following the official tutorials and they say gradients are also automatically filled in recent color menu too, not only the solid ones. But in my palette there are only solid colors are automatically filled, like screenshot i’ve attached. Am I doing something wrong?
  6. .There is a little gray box just outside of the color swatches that is a part of the selection box that I can't access. I am working with the Trial version of Affinity Designer. I was looking for the color swatches and I noticed gray scale swatches. I didn't see the color swatches and didn't see them anywhere to be displayed in Studio. I accidently scrolled with the Magic Mouse while on the gray scale and I could barely see a selection box under it that would allow me to choose color swatches, Pantone swatches, etc. Why isn't that selection box in clear view and useable? Mac OS Sierra.
  7. Is it possible to dock studio panels in 2 columns on one side? I found the options to have studio panels on the left and right at the same time but I would prefer to have panels in two (or even three) columns on one side. I am currently doing lettering of the comic saga Nanits Chronicles in Affinity Designer and my "standard" working layout is to have script and references on the left side (25% of the 21:9 34' screen) and Designer on the right (75%). The artwork should be in the centre, so I have one long Layer panel + other panels on the right (see attached screenshot). The Layer panel is not docked, is actually floating over the workspace. Is there any chance to dock the two panel columns next to each other?

    Sandboxing Restriction

    I have bought Affinity Photo via the App Store and it works perfectly until i try to use the free macro pack's macro and topaz' studio Impression (as plugin). When I import the macro file into Affinity, the panel stays empty and in Impression (started via the via the plugin filter menu) the stroke panel stays empty too. Been searching the internet and it seems that it is because the App Store's Sandboxing Restrictions. Is there a way to convert my app store version of affinity to a version as if it is bought from the serif/affinity store? Or can I get a serial number for activation (when I sent my invoice from the app store as prove of ownership) to someone at Affinity, so I can download it from the site and activate it via that serial number?

  10. Unfortunately, there is no "function" to save the studio. (If so, please prove me wrong). That does not mean you can't save it manually, and even keep multiple versions of it to suit your different workspaces. As a bonus or drawback, some of your preferences will also be saved or recalled by the same process. To save your Studio configuration (MAC) The following allows you to keep a safe copy of your studio configuration, including the Toolbar and other preferences (I did not know which ones at this point) Quit Affinity Designer From the finder top drop-down menu, select GO and press [option] — [shift] or [^control] on some systems. A new item called Library should appear in the menu. Click it. Navigate to this location : Macintosh HD/Users/YourUserNameHere/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Preferences Copy the file com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to a safe location of your choice. I recommend a cloud base storage, so you can get it back on a new or different system at anytimel. Go back to work with peace of mind, your Studio configuration is now safe. To recall the Studio If the studio go astray, or the toolbar plays hide and seek on you: Quit Affinity Designer Copy back com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to its original location (From where you saved it above) — Replace the existing files Note that the studio will come back the exact same way you had it at the time you copied the file for the first time. Changes you made between the two procedures will be lost. Forever. I have not tested it yet, but I'm sure that some other preference settings will be affected as well, I just don't know to what extent. Multiple Studios: You can make multiple Studio arrangements and save them independently. Just copy com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to different locations. Be sure to label them properly, so you remember what they are. Very useful on a laptop that uses an external monitor that is not always connected. If you're comfortable with MacOS Automator, you can even create series of app/scripts to save or restore your Studio configuration(s) automatically. Not the smoothest process and I wish there was a prebuilt function for that… But until it does, or someone proves me wrong, it's a workaround. Enjoy!
  11. Why can't I make alignment, arrangement, and snapping a window/tab like color and layer? It's super annoying to have to move my cursor to the edge of the screen, press a button, and align/arrange/change snapping setting. Improve the workflow please!
  12. Loving Affinity so far! A quirk I can't find any info on in this forum relates to the appearance of the brush head when using the Surface Pen. (I'm on a Windows 10 Surface Studio.) When selecting the overlay tool, my mouse's cursor will display the brush as I manipulate it around the file; when using the Pen it shows nothing -- though the tool itself still paints on the image. Any ideas? Thanks!
  13. When purchasing Affinity, customer service told me that the cutout studio was much improved in Affinity. After a lot of searching ... I am not finding it. That is a much used feature in Photoplus and frankly it is better than most of the competition. Thanks

If one has more more slices than fit in the studio panel, and one is trying to select slices below the visible ones via scrolling down, as soon as you select another slice, AD takes you to the top of the list. This is a real PITA for docs with large sets of slices to be exported. 2. There is no way to save and then turn on and off different sets of slices for export. In my document, I have a set of slices which I want to export in high res, and another set I want in low res; but I don't want to export BOTH at the same time, sometimes I only want to export the high res, and another time the low res... It would be beneficial to be able to have an option to save multiple set of checked slices and quickly switch between these sets. Thanks for your consideration
  16. Hi, I'm missing the icons that allow me to switch between personas. I've reset the studio, toggled on and off the toolbars, done the usual searching, but have lost the ability to switch to different personas. Any ideas where these icons could have gone, or a reasonable workaround to switch personas? Thanks!

Hello, I just upgraded in the latest version and I lost my customization of the panels in designer, I have looked around if there is something to save to avoid losing it again (and in upgrading photo) but I couldn't find anything. Is there a way to save this so I can restore it in each update? Thanks

Hi Guys, sorry in advance for my bad english I'm trying the trial version about Affinity Photo and that is what I found that doesn't work well: - Editing size and hardness of brush is really annoying: in PS I just need to right-click and fix how I want or Alt+right-click to edit in the fastest way the settings. Can you implement this in the next version? - Studio editing is pretty good but I can't group the tools, for example: if I want that all the tools selection are in a single group I can't do it, in PS I just need to drag them in a tool's icon tool to make them stay together. - The Blemish Removal tool works only with circles and I can't drag that... Under, in the info, there also written DRAG: bug or drag is just to select where Photo have to take the pixels to correct? IMHO Should be a brush... - During the selection work on PS if I press Shift I can add the next drag to my selection, if I use Alt I will delete. Can you implement also that please? - Develop Persona: There's somethings that doens't work good: I can't work simultaneously on more raws image (if I have a sequence I want to edit in the same way all the shots in syncro...) The raw edited can't be closed and worked later: I'll lose all my corrections. Can you fix that? Just like the .xmp files of ACR or in the metadata like LR I can't find the HSL panel that I use really much on PS or LR, can you implement please? Last thing: can you encourage people to create panels also for you? TK Panels and Beauty Retouch is a must for my workflow in landscape and portrait..! However Affinity Photo is a really, really, REALLY good: Smooth, fast, unexpensive, etc. If I think that you are just at 1.5 version... Wow. Keep up to good work! When you'll fix this problems I'll surely buy and incentivate my friends to buy the program. Thanks to have made a good competitor of Photoshop! =D
  19. The attached screenshot shows it pretty clearly. This happens when I drag panels that are attached to each other upwards so that the pointer crosses into the OS toolbar at the top. Somehow they all become stacked on top of each other. studio.mov

Recently I have not been able to see the document that I am working on or any of the following at the same time: * Toolbar * Tools * Context Toolbar *Studio I can tab to toggle the UI on and off. When UI is off and I can see the document if I use the View menu to see any of the above then the document disappears from view. I have tried resetting all the default but this does not solve the problem. I have the same problem with the beta version. I am running Windows 10.and experienced other problems (with restarting) after Windows updates were installed on 12-13 September; the latest Windows update has fixed this.. This may be a coincidence but AP worked fine before (I am not sure of the exact date but certainly after 1 September). After the Windows updates I did not try AP until a couple of days ago. Have I accidentally changed something? Has anyone else ever had the same problem? Update 30/09/2017 I have found the cause of the problem as the settings for AMD Radeon™ R5 Graphics card. The drivers for this card were updated with the Windows updates and the new driver appears to have either caused the problem or changed the settings. The setting for the Affinity Photo now default to "Unassigned". If I change these to "Power Saving" the problem disappears when I restart AP but reappear if I select any other setting.
  22. Hi ! Recently I purchased Affinity Photo and it's my first post here I fall in love affinity Photo features, workflow and monthly fees free concept, but some bugs are really dissapointing. Considering to switch from adobe products to Affinity Photo, because it completely covers my needs. Really wish success to you, guys, and know how important feedbacks is, so there is one. Please forgive me, if I created theme in a wrong forum tree. I'm working in IT, my system is fast and clean, so please don't advise to turn off antivirus or smth. like that I already tried to tweak my machine perfomance, Affinity Photo perfomance and so on, but nothing helps. Have zero speed issues with Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop in described scenarios. They fast and furious My laptop specs: ASUS ZenBook UX330UA: Intel Core i5 6200U 2300 MHz / 13.3" / 3200x1800 / 8Gb RAM / 256Gb SSD / Intel HD Graphics 520 / Win 10 Pro Affinity Photo version: 1.5.2.69 Affinity Photo BETA version: 1.6.0.82 What I found during my work: 1) Tone Mapping persona is very slow. I'm processing 16MB 6114x4076 JPEG files and it takes about 1 minute to finish initial processing when swithcing to Tone Mapping Persona. Beta version, maybe, little bit faster. Not very noticable. 2) I created my own tone mapping preset and save it in my own folder in Tone Mapping Persona presets. After that, I created macros with one tone mapping action (which uses my preset) and save it in Affinity Photo library. Then, I created one batch job with 5 files and launched it - all my files were processed and placed into output folder correctly. Then, I closed Affinity Photo, relaunched it, and repeat my batch job in the same way. Photos were processed, BUT they were tone mapped by first default preset, not with my own. I tried to repeat and this hapened again. I recreated macros and found that it works fine. Closed Affinity Photo agian, relaunched it, and found that macros didn't work correctly again. Issue is reproduced not only with bacth mode. After relaunching Affinity Photo simple macros calling from library causes the same effect. 3) Tone Mapping macros batch processing is extremely SLOOOW!! IT takes about 3 minutes to process each photo by this way. More than, one photo processing time increasing with increasing of total photo number in batch. More photos, more time need for one photo processing. More than, Parallel processing increasing one photo processing time to about TEN minutes! Maybe, there is another way to tone mapping batch of photos, but I didn't find it. 4) I tried to do such macros batch job in Affinity Photo Beta. It cann't create tone mapping macros at all, failing with error. Macros Import from stable Affinity Photo version doesn't help. After such import Beta version cann't be launched, it fails during startup with error. 5) Time to time I'm catching another interesting bug: Studio refuses drag&drop photo import from folder. Studio reset helps. 6) Clarity in develop persona creates freaky white poster objects border effects on high meanings; 7) Develop Persona shadow recovery seems to be broken. It only adding grey tint to shadows, instead of pulling it. 8) Why after applying Develop Persona processing I can't return to it back again? History isn't saved. 9) 2 stops exposure Develop Persona tuning isn't enough. Need about 5 stops. 10) Develop Persona brushes and filters masks are dissapear after options tuning and cann't be called back again. Need to recreate filter/brush again. 11) Batch job editor doesn't remember previous settings

  24. I tried rearranging the panels within the right hand studio area, to see if it improved my workflow. Discovered that I lose the ability to resize the Stroke panel, and also that changing between the Stroke and Brush tabs causes a strange jump in size.
  25. It would be useful to have an option in AD of saving what panels and how they appear in my View/Studio. These "custom" studio setups could then be brought into any AD doc.
