  1. Hello there... First of all I'd like to say that Affinity Designer is a very pleasant and easy software to use. Thank you for your contributions to creativity! This is my complaint and suggestion: It takes way too long to start up. After I start up Designer, it typically takes about 6 to 8 minutes for the program to start and finally loaded to be used. However, I think this might have to do with the fact that I have over 8,000 fonts on my computer....but here's the thing - some of us are designers (get the joke?), and it is VERY reasonable to have up to 8000 fonts on your computer. To be honest, I signed up to this forum, confirmed my email address, and started writing this post, and Designer has not even finished loading. My computer has a quad-core Intel i7 processor, and 16GB of RAM and over 500GB free diskpace, running Windows 10. Also I usually have very few programs (light on resources) running at once. My suggestion: It is probably a bad idea for Designer to scan and record ALL the fonts on a system before the program is use-able. I might suggest even building the fonts database progressively, even after the program has started. Its possible to start the program with only 'Favourites' fonts loaded at the start, and then progressively adding fonts in batches. Just to keep loading and start time to a minimum. I know there are designers who have over 12k fonts on their computers. Would they have to wait 9 minutes before they can use Designer? I feel there is some merit to this idea about progressivly scanning and adding fonts (I do a humble amount of coding myself). To support my point, I am sure that over half every single use of Affinity Designer does not involve text or fonts within the first few minutes. They are probably first working with shapes, lines, color, etc. Please try to fix this issue. With all politeness, it is unacceptable for a program to take 5 to 8 minutes to start. By that time, its easy to even lose any motivation or creative ideas you might have wanted to create. Thank you very much.
  2. Hello all! To celebrate Affinity Photo's first birthday, we're releasing a short set of beginners videos to help people who are new to image editing and the concepts of layers, adjustments, filters and exporting. The videos have all been transcribed (English UK) and the subtitles are available via the "CC" icon in the bottom right of the video player. You can watch each video from the links below, or see the album at http://affin.co/photobeginners Additionally, you can download the practice files for the Adjustments, Filters and Exporting videos here: http://affin.co/photobeginnersfiles Here's the list: Opening and Saving: covers how to open and save your images, and explains the benefits of using the Affinity Photo document (.afphoto) format. Layers: explains conceptually what layers are, how they're used, and how they affect your image or document. Adjustments: looks at what Adjustment Layers are, and how you can use them to tonally alter your images. Filters: learn how to use filters to manipulate your images, and get to grips with Photo's unique "live layers" feature. Exporting: find out how to simply export and share your finished images. We hope these are of great use to people who want a more straightforward grounding in the basics of Affinity Photo, and do stay tuned for further beginners videos in the future. Main Shortcuts differences between the Mac and Windows version Windows keyboard shortcut equivalents: Mac 'Command' key = Windows 'Ctrl' key Mac 'Shift' key = Windows 'Shift' key Mac 'Alt' key = Windows 'Alt' key Mac 'Ctrl' key = Windows 'Right Mouse' button NOTE: Most recent Affinity videos and tutorials have been made to reflect both Windows and Mac keyboard shortcuts. However there are still some that currently refer only to Mac accelerators.
  3. Affinity Photo has become slower starting up since the last update, what should i do to correct this, any ideas.
  4. Hi Guys, I've been doing editing and design for several years now on photoshop. Self taught. I am looking to start learning how to create vectors. Is Affinity a good program for starting out? Or should I start on Illustrator? Ive been itching to purchase this software, just worried I might jump into the deep end of the pool too quickly. Thoughts?
