  1. Hi, Anyone experienced stars appearing as monochrome artefacts on importing the file into Affinity Photo on iPad? File - 32bit TIFF, after stacking in Deep Sky Stacker where image appears with no artefacts. If the image is stacked in ASIAIR Plus and saved as JPEG file, the stars appear correctly in Affinity Photo. If a TIFF file is first saved in iPad Photos, it appears correctly there, yet again stars appear as artefacts if a photo is imported into Affinity Photo from the picture gallery. Thanks, Alexander
  2. Can anyone help me how to randomize a bunch of object's position and scale for instance i wanna do a starred background with various position rotation and scale. In AI there is transform each command and you can randomize transform applied on objects. Thank you.
  3. Hi, I'm an Affinity user trying to process astrophotography images. The problem I would like your help with is whenever I work with nebulae I like to reduce the number of stars and size of stars in my photo so that the nebulae stand out. Unfortunately, when I use Star Eater or Star Eater Extreme to make the stars shrink, dark rings appear around the stars. (See photo below.) How can I avoid making those dark rings appear? I realize the rings are a consequence of my shrinking the stars.
  4. Hi, In the Arrange menu, there's an item "Align Layers By Stars". I've seen this function available and working, if I have a document where the layers stem from the Astrophotography Stack. When I created a new image from TIFFs which contain stacked images (e.g. as the result from Deep Sky Stacker), this menu item is not available. I don't understand why? Thanks in advance! Björn
  5. I absolutely love using the Affinity Designer iPad app and I’m sure I’m not the only one who has amassed a LARGE collection of brushes. So many that it’s almost impossible to quickly find the ones I want and duplicating and moving them to a new brush category is not the easiest solution. I would LOVE to have the ability to ‘star’ or ‘colour-code’ brushes in the brush panel so that when scrolling through the panel and various categories a user can very quickly see which brushes they have ‘favourited’ (they could have a bold outline around them or a star icon next to them). Even better would be the ability to colour-code them like you can with the layers panel. Imagine being able to see your favourite brush categories at a glance! P.S. this would be great for the desktop version too. Mockup attached. Love you.
  6. When I first started using Affinity Designer, I wanted to create a field of stars. However, all my searches for "star field brushes" or "starfield brushes" lead me to tutorials on using granulated diffusion gradients to create the illusion of a dense background of stars. That wasn't want I wanted at all. I wanted a background of (slightly) cartoony stars against a black backdrop. Since I'm a hobbyist, with zero formal training, I didn't really understand how to ask for what I actually wanted. So ... I puttered and played with the tools and ... finally (after far more time than I'd like to admit), I figured out what I wanted. What I actually wanted, was: A Pixel Layer, Intensity Brush, with Multiple Nozzles. My work here is hardly complex, or spectacular, but it does provide a solution to the problem I was having, and I like to think that maybe it might also provide some help to others. So, in the hopes that others might find my brushes useful, or at least be able to use them to figure out how to make their own, here they are: Starfield brushes.afbrushes
  7. Hi I am new in photography and using Affinity as well. I experiment with my camera and multiple focus points and multiple exposure . I am wandering using Affinity, what is the best way to create a very clear landscape photo with great DoF and to be HDR. The steps I have in my minds is: 5 different exposures for each exposure 9 different focal points then on Affinity I am thinking to merge the focal points first (grouped by exposure) , so I will get five new photos where each one now includes all focal points but has different exposure then I will do the HDR merge is this a right approach ? and how I control/decide the correct DoF (lets say is a landscape or night skyscrapers wig water in front or stars) many thanks
  8. Hello Could you please add the possibility to recognise the star rating of pictures taken and rated with Sony cameras (like the new Sony a7rIII / ILCE-7RM3)? Please view quotes and links below to see which rating function I am referring to: Source for 1st quote: https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/sony-a7r-iii Source for 2nd quote: https://www.colbybrownphotography.com/getting-the-most-out-of-your-sony-a7r-iii/ Here you can see the camera rating function works (play the video at 19'54''): (on YouTube.com, it is the video "Sony a7R III Training Tutorial" "by Tony & Chelsea Northrup) Please tell if this will be added to the features requested list and when you will be implementing it. Thank you! Miss C

  11. Hey again, it's been ages since I actually shared some of my work in this forum. Over the course of getting imagery for the tutorials, I've also produced some final pieces that I'm happy with. Recently I've been tackling tutorials for astrophotography/star image editing as well as light painting, so there have been a few late nights! My favourite so far is a light painting composite near my home: Rail Tracks by James Ritson, on Flickr Then a light painting of Rufford Abbey (although I think I narrowly avoided a run-in with security): Rufford Abbey by James Ritson, on Flickr Followed by another light painting composite underneath an old railway bridge. This one's a little scrappy and I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment: Under The Bridge 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr Moving on, a combination of star photography and light painting at Rufford Lake: Rufford Lake 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr And then a shot of the night sky, which was achieved by stacking 50 images (shot at ISO 6400, 1s long each) and pushing the tones quite severely to produce a vibrant result: Still Sky 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr That's about it for now - some of the above imagery is used in the recent tutorials and I plan to hopefully produce some more videos in the future covering these areas of photography. There are a few more images on my 500px and Flickr accounts as well if you're interested! Thanks, James
  12. Hi, I came across a nice tutorial for post-processing Nothern Lights/Star photography using Photoshop On FStoppers (https://fstoppers.com/originals/advanced-six-step-program-processing-aurora-lightroom-and-photoshop-164984), and I was particularly interested in section 5 of this tutorial which aims at making "leading stars" bigger using luminosity masks. I have tried doing something similar in Affinity Photo using Blend Range tool (equivalent of luminosity mask in Affinity Photo) but I have not been successful. Using an unsharp mask filter and a lighten blend mode makes all the stars a little bit bigger (which is a good start) but I am after a more dramatic effect that only works on the biggest stars of the image (without going through the painful process of manually enhancing them one by one using local adjustments). Would someone be able to give me some pointers on how to achieve that? Thanks, Xav
  13. Hi, I'm new to Affinity Designer and Photo and been learning a lot from all the tutorials which are great, however, I can't find anything on how to create a starry night sky from scratch. I browsed Youtube and found how to do it with Photoshop but they use all the PS shortcuts and UI so I have no idea how to do it with Affinity or if its even possible. Can someone share some knowledge about this? My goal is to make a starry night sky with colorful gas clouds.
  14. Hello, In doing astrophotography, these two features are really essential. I really love using AP for editing, but it becomes nearly impossible to with astrophotography because it's missing these two features. Especially because AP has features like LAB, it could be a really great tool potentially - and I don't think (at least the median mode) is very difficult to implement. They're useful for stacking photos - when taking pictures of the night sky without a tracker, you're limited in the exposure length you can use, because the Earth is rotating. To get a useful picture, you really need an exposure with at least ISO 3200, making very noisy images. The solution is to take multiple pictures and align them in post, and then use a median filter to remove the noise (which is incredibly effective). It's useful for other things as well - basically any noise reduction. There are perfectly clear stacks of images taken at ISO 25,600 or higher - and the median filter can get rid of people walking in front of a landscape, for example. My point is, these are really useful features for everyone and could add a lot to the abilities of AP and make it a very appealing software for another group of photographers.
