  1. How can I avoid in a text with full justification, the terrible looking automatic spaceing of a single word in a line (not the last line)?
  2. The move from beta to open has been very smooth for me... aside from this one issue. Before, when I set text in a cell of a table to be Vertically Aligned Center, it was actually in the center of the cell. Now, it acts like there's 'space after' that it needs to account for. I've checked all my settings and I cannot figure out why it's doing this. I've included examples of the same cell text being aligned top, middle, and bottom. As you can see, the middle is not actually centered, but the top and bottom alignments are fine. I've even checked the text formatting of this cell and I don't see why it should be doing this weird thing with Aligned Center. Any idea what's causing this? My current workaround is manually doing this with cell inset measurements... but some of my cells have more than 1 line of text, so the adjustment has to be made row by row. :-(
  3. Hello! Does anyone know if it's possible to remove all added tightening/loosening of horizontal space manually applied between letters of words? I'd like to go back to a "clean," unaltered version of the original text. Thank you!
  4. So I’m pretty sure I must have messed up the defaults for the spacing and positioning for typing on Affinity Designer at some point cause they are really messed up. Like if I press space it practicly moves over one pixel, which results in me having to press it 5 times so that you can tell that there is a space there. So I was wondering if anyone is able to help me by having the default settings for the spacing and positioning, or at least tell me how to fix this. Thank you in advance!
  5. Sometimes I like to zoom out and look at one of my layouts but I noticed that with Publisher the pages are so close together that I can't just focus on one layout at a time. In this case I am designing a YouTube thumbnail so I want to see what it will look like reduced way down. With Designer I could just select the art board tool and space the art board apart but there doesn't seem to be a similar solution like this on designer. I would prefer to stay working in Publisher since it is a real design tool. Is there some option for selecting page spacing?
  6. In both the Print and Web device documents I am unable to set the Grid Spacing above .853. I am using Affinity Designer on the iPad and it seems that Affinity Photo on the iPad has the same problem. I tried it on the desktop version of Affinity Designer and can set the Spacing to 2.667 inches, so it appears this is a defect in the iPad version. Since the iPad version does not have the Ruler feature, I was trying to use the Grid to show 1-inch squares divided into 1/8" squares.
  7. Spacing group: when I hover my mouse on the left indent number value and scroll my mouse wheel up or down, the value accordingly increases or decreases (I really like this feature!), however the first line indent value also increases or decreases right along with it. I think this is a bug because this doesn't happen when I perform the same action on any of the other values in the Spacing group.. Arrowing up: I wanted to have a list that numbered 1.a.1, so to get the 2nd level counting to letters, I changed those paragraphs to type:a,b,c (haven't seen any way to customize my numbering formats, but also haven't looked too hard yet). When arrowing up/down from the middle of a paragraph, there is no weirdness. However when arrowing up with the cursor at the left-most position of a level 1 paragraph and into a level 2 paragraph, the cursor jumps from the left margin to strange positions going up. Here's an example - read from the bottom up: [[cursor lands here, back where it started]]this is a level 1 paragraph with several lines this is another level 1 paragraph, pretend it also has several lines[[cursor lands here]] this is a level 2 paragraph with several [[cursor lands here]]lines and this is the second line more level 2[[cursor lands here, skipping paragraph below]] yet another level 2 [[cursor lands here]]back to level 1 [[start with cursor here]]and more level 1 Weird...
  8. A spacing function that allows us to create a seamless repeating tile would made surface pattern designers dreams come true. Our whole job is to create layered repeating art. These repeats need to look seamless so spacing elements that transfer from one side of the tile/canvas to the other side is key. We then export as PSD or un-compressed TIFF files so our buyers can update the layers later. We usually transfer them with Drop Box. So far Affinity does 90% of what we need. This new function would do the following: when a layer is pushed off one side of the canvas/art board, it appears on the opposite side. This will enable to the user to create a seamless repeating design. I will certainly be blogging about this app and sharing it on social media. If this tile function happens I will be doing 100% of my work on it.

    Brush import issues

I just purchased Affinity Photo and am seeing issues already. Brush import is not working properly/well. 1) Brush shape in AP ties to brush roundness in PS. Brushes imported into AP with a certain roundness retain the setting value under the Shape parameter. However the Shape parameter in AP does nothing. You can move the Shape setting from left to right and roundness/shape of the brush is unaffected. I have a cloud brush (attached) with a roundness of 36, it looks properly squashed in PS, it is unaffected and full size in AP. Assigning the value upon import indicates that the Shape parameter should do what the Roundness parameter does (otherwise why import the value?) but the FUNCTION of the Shape parameter is not the same as the roundness function in PS. 2) PS has functionality where a control like Rotation is set with a value of 0 for control based upon direction but it still functions (as long as some control type is assigned to the control). In AP, the value imports as 0, but a zero value shuts off the dynamic even if a control type is assigned. In order to get proper behavior, export should not disable the dynamic if a control type is assigned but the control value is 0, and should only disable the control if the control type is None. 3) Resetting the brush values doesn't set them back to original imported default values. 4) Import of the "spacing" value needs to be adjusted (see attached PSD) to achieve similar results to a brush's performance in photoshop, or maybe this is caused by #5: 5) Flip X jitter and Flip X jitter aren't present in AP. There is no substitute that I can see in any of the brush settings that will give the same effect. Brushes with this characteristic checked in PS behave very differently in AP. This kind of randomness is essential in order for a foliage brush or a cloud brush to look natural by avoiding repetition. (See cookie-cutter effect in attached photoshop file.) I attached brush files (imported and original) and a PSD file showing AP behavior vs PS behavior. The differences are night and day and the brush import is not usable in its current state. In the PSD, the AP brush behavior is above and the PS behavior is below. BrushBug.psd Bug Brushes.afbrushes OneCloudBrush.abr
  10. Hi guys, There's an option to hold ctrl and see the distance between an object and other objects, with the first object selected. Can I disable this option? I use it, it's very useful, but not always, and it's sometimes annoying to press Ctrl for something else and see lots and lots of arrow/lines and distances, it's distracting. Thank you, Chris
  11. Hi guys, Affinity has a really cool feature that allows you to see the exact distance between two objects, by holding Ctrl after selecting an object, and hovering another object, and the distance between those object will be shown. It's a really cool feature, but a feature I don't always use. Is there a way to enable/disable it? Thank you, Chris ps: kudos to the awesome community and to a wonderful app.
  12. Hi, I know there is such option, because I saw it, but I somehow disabled it, and I want to re-enable it. Basically, when I was using the arrows to move an object, I could see the spacing between the object I was moving and the nearest objects around it, plus the spacings between the object I was moving and the page margins. Does anyone know how to enable/disable this option? Thanks, Chris
  13. Hi all, I often need to space objects on the page by a set amount, so the 'space vertically' tool will be something I'll use a lot. The problem is that it's a bit buried in the interface, and for some reason adding the button to the toolbar results in a button that is constantly disabled. If you see the attached screenshot, the button is active in the align menu, but is inactive on the main menu. Any ideas on why that would be? Also, does anyone know of a way to save the spacing value? It would speed up the workflow a bit not having to always enter the value in there. Thanks!
  14. Affinity still lacks dynamic spacing guides as Illustrator and Indesign. It would be a great time saver.
  15. Hi. I just tried Affinity Designer a month ago, and I was hooked. And last week, I bought a license, not disappointed. I am migrating to the AD now. (Formerly I was a user of the big name vector software for years). Here is the feature request. Since I often use AD for web design, I think it really needs the ability to set the character leading to a relative value (like 1.5x or 1.5em or 150%). So when we change the font size, the leading will also be adjusted. Thanks.
  16. Hi Guys Once again another newbie, but I hope you have some brain energy to spare! My current predicament is, even after reading the AD guide, that I'm unable to find a way to equally space rhomboids within my design. My design essentially is a suite of Amor with varying rhomboids to make up the armour, Im looking for a way to make sure that all the pieces have equal distances between them. I have tried the transform tool but this is really restricted to nodes within each curve to a X and Y coordinates which would require a lot of pythagoras! I was thinking is there any way to set equal distance between the lines which the nodes create?
  17. Fairly new to using Affinity Designer, but found on the Mac, the paragraph Spacing tab doesn't have any entry boxes, just icons. Therefore, the only way to set any spacing is by creating/editing styles or the less accurate keyboard method. Possibly, unique to me...?
  18. I need the ability to draw across multiple artboards. Currently, even if I arrange artboards next to each other, when I draw a shape across two or more artboards I can only see the part of the shape that fits in the artboard the shape was started in. The same thing happens with text. In the picture I am including I drew a rectangle across two artboards but it only shows on one. I also wrote test across two artboards but it also shows on only one. I am also requesting a way to set up the spacing vertically and horizontally between two or more artboards. For example, set the artboards to be right next to each other at 0" or to be separated by a specific value such as .5" or 3pxls or anything like that.
  19. When using the grid tool with a type "2:1 isometric grid", I noticed the spacing of the grid was different than the one I set in the grid tool. I entered a spacing of 64px so that would make 128px wide but I end up with 114.5 px. Take a look at the screenshot bellow.
  20. Hello, Was wondering where on earth the paragraph spacing controls had gone to, then I noticed they were simply not there anymore! See attached screen grab. I can't now change paragraph spacing, which is a bit annoying. Is this a known bug, can I back date to 1.4? Help! Carl
  21. See photos when you select spacing it jumps back to original spacing. Maybe its a setting change, but this problem randomly occurred.
  22. Hello all, I'm using then new update ( v1.5 ) but I can't seem to find the custom spacing option. I've added the spacing buttons to my toolbar and I've checked the layers menu under "alignment" but I can't find where I can set that all my selected objects are spaced 32px from each other. I used to be able to do that no problem and It's important for me to build custom artboard templates for my team. Did it move, or was it removed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy Xander
  23. I understand that in your Paragraph dialogue box you use "spacing" rather than "leading." Having said that, I have a very peculiar problem in that I set the spacing in one Frame Text and extend the box vertically to accommodate two lines of text, each line of only two words in caps. It is actually a note on a map, on top of a larger rectangle of color, all under the same main layer. The two lines of text are wrapped with only a space between the last word on the first line and the first word on the second line. This works fine. However, when I enlarge the boxes vertically (text box and rectangle) and keep typing, the leading between the second and third line is much reduced. If I make a copy of that text box with the underlying color rectangle and change text a totally, simply typing the new text in the same box over the top of highlighted old text, the leading now becomes reduced between the first and second lines. I must increase the leading/spacing from my original 48 pts to 60 pts to get the same appearance of line spacing. Both boxes use the "Exactly" setting. Having highlighted all the lines and each line in all of these cases I have carefully checked all of the settings in both the Character and Paragraph dialogue boxes. They are precisely the same. Is this a know problem in AD, or might it be some hidden setting or conflict between the Character and Paragraph? I don't believe so since the font size, leading/spacing, and all of the other settings are exactly the same in both dialogue boxes. Thanks for any word on this. BTW, I've been working in AD now for months and it is difficult to say just what a big relief to use such a user-friendly program (after Freehand, Illustrator, etc.). Thanks for all the work!
  24. The new triangular grid is really neat. It helps me make hexagonal assets for a game I'm working on. An obstacle I'm facing is that the grid spacing value corresponds to the hypotenuse of the triangle and not the base of the triangle. When using a whole number (actually any rational number) for the spacing (e.g. 32px), the base (i.e. x-coordinate spacing) works out as an irrational number (27.71281292px...). It's not possible to enter a spacing value that results in integer x-coordinate spacing since the coefficient between the base and hypotenuse is irrational (square-root of 3). As a result of this the triangular grid is never aligned with the pixel grid. Since the slice persona requires that slice coordinates and dimensions are all aligned with the pixel grid it's not possible to precisely slice shapes that are aligned with the triangular grid. There are a few possible fixes, any would work: * Allow the user to space the triangular grid using the base instead of the hypotenuse. * Allow non-integer values for the x and y coordinates in the slice persona. * Allow the user to enter expressions that result in irrational numbers in the spacing field [1]. I attached a screenshot showing the misaligned grids in a zoomed-in slice persona. [1] This is allowed presently, but the result is resolved to an insufficient precision. Even on a small canvas (500px by 500px) the accumulating difference means that the two grids become misaligned fairly quickly.
  25. With enabled ligatures, the spacing is doubled in justified words that fill one line.
