  1. I've been working with affinity and sketch for some time and it would be great if i could import / open a .sketch file directly in affinity designer. Thanks for the great work. Love the product :)
  2. Is it possible to add the ability to open / import sketch files?
  3. Is Publisher going up against newish tools like Sketch and Adobe XD? In many ways those tools are layout software so it seems like similar to what Publisher would do. I have spent far less time with Publisher then I have with the other Affinity tools so it's hard for me to know how much it competes with prototyping. What I have seen so far it looks like it is more of a competitor to ID and Quark.

  5. It would be awesome for all UI designers that we could import Sketch App file format into Affinity Designer, would not it? Is there any chance to see this feature request landing in the foreseeable future, what do you think about it?
  6. Looking for a compatible drawing monitor to use with Affinity. It looks like the Wacom monitors are compatible, but I'm looking for something a little bit cheaper in price. Any suggestions?
  7. Hi, any plans to create a plugin to interact with Sketch? Thanks Paty
  8. I just wanted to recap the current state of how Affinity Designer is performing in web design workflows. I'm using Affinity Designer since one year for all of my work and I love the application itself. But as of now there is no complete workflow to handout designs made in AD to developers in any way: 1. Neither Zeplin nor Avocode support AD and it doesn't seem that anthying will change here. 2. Affinity Designer supports PSD Export but has two major drawbacks: Border radius properties are not preserved and text layers are completely flattened which make them completely useless. 3. Affinity Designer doesn't support the new open file format of SketchApp to be able to export designs as Sketch files to then inspect them in Zeplin, Avocode, or any other Sketch Viewer. 4. Exporting to SVG or PDF is not an option either because important properties like border radius, line-height and others are missing. 5. Right now it doesn't seem that Affinity is adding an inspect persona or any viewer service or app. So I'd like to ask the Affinity Designer team: What are your goals to improve the workflow for webdesigners and developers? How are you planning to improve this workflow in the future or don't you plan to do anything in this regard? Do you have any suggestion how web designers can work with developers? I've added a poll so that users can vote which suggestion they like the most.
  9. Hi, I've been trying to find an answer to this for a while and haven't figured it out yet, so hopefully someone can help me get to the bottom of this. I've been given a file with a UI that was created in Affinity Photo, not Affinity Designer, and need to bring this into Sketch to continue the rest of the UI. However, I'm not sure of how I can export the file into Sketch and preserve all the layers? This might have been easier if I was from a vector to vector program, but I'm going from a raster to vector program, so I'm not entirely sure how this will work out, or if I'll have to end up recreating the entire thing in Sketch. Please let me know if you have any good workarounds or if someone else has figured this out yet. Thanks!
  10. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and I just wanted to say how much I enjoy using the affinity designer software. To show my "affinity" to the software, I would like to share a tutorial video that I made turning my hand sketch into a vector drawing :D: https://youtu.be/UDVuI0BPFgo Hope you guys like it and let me know what you think. Thanks, Mike
  11. Hi, i am trying to import my sketch work to affinity designer to convert my work to PSD. however, whenever I copy and paste my work to affinity, my icon does not appear properly, and I have to redo my work in affinity.. any ideas how to solve this problem??
  12. Please can someone advise me on the best way to digitalise a photo of a pencil sketch so that it can altered or manipulated in either affinity photo or design. Many thanks, Max
  13. Hello, when you take the competition serious then you should open your apps for plugins and another services like invision. This is the future. When we make web design we need to present it like a real website. Mokups are very common and important. Please, make this feature available. Thank you.
  14. AD folks, Any way for me to convert an imported .png file created using the Sketch app so that I can manipulate it in Affinity Designer? I created a new document in AD and imported the above mentioned image but cannot figure out how to work off of this image, making minor changes/effects, etc. Thanks in advance. -Christo
  15. This post concerns Affinity Photo only (Mac installation) I would like to share with you lovely people some methods to create a pencil sketch from a photograph as an opener to more discussion and ideas. Firstly I must credit Affinity Jack for the first method, Ciao Jack :-D I'm assuming a Mac installation of Affinity Photo There are a number of ways to create a pencil line drawing effect from a photograph; here are two quick methods as recipes, the fist one I discovered on the web from Affinity Jack; here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srNqGqVBkxA , I have seen this method in other places so I don't know who created this originally. The second one is a method I developed myself by experimentation. First method (Gaussian Blur) 1. load the file. 2. If the file is not raw i.e already processed as an afphoto file or a jpg/tiff/png etc go to step 3. Make whatever raw file adjustments you need to do then press develop and proceed with step 3. 3. Duplicate the initial background pixel layer (Cmd J). 4. Make sure you have selected the new duplicate layer; then invert the layer (Cmd I) 5. Select the blend mode of the layer and set the blend mode as Colour Dodge; note the picture will go blank white or you my see a faint outline ... don't worry step 6 will make it it clear ... 6. With the duplicate layer selected choose from the main menu Layer -> New Live Filter Layer -> Gaussian Blur Filter then move the Radius slider slowly to the right to reveal a sketch outline. 7 Once you have your desired sketch effect, make sure you have the duplicated layer selected and press Cmd U to give you the HSL shift adjustment. Move the Saturation Shift slider fully to the left to give you a black and white pencil effect. Second method (Edge Detection) 1. load the file. 2. If the file is not raw i.e already processed as an afphoto file or a jpg/tiff/png etc go to step 3. Make whatever raw file adjustments you need to do then press develop and proceed with step 3. 3. Duplicate the initial background pixel layer (Cmd J). 4. Make sure you have selected the new duplicate layer; then select Filters -> Detect -> Detect Edges. 5. Invert the layer (Cmd I) 6. Now with the inverted layer selected press Cmd U to create a new HSL adjustment layer and move the Saturation Shift slider fully to the the left to create a black and white pencil sketch effect. I have created these as Affinity Macros too (for non Raw files of course) but doing them from scratch gives you access to modification of layers within the process to give you more creative scope. The main difference between these two methods is that the fist one uses a Gaussian blur effect which gives you scope to increase the thickness and intensity of the edges but naturally is more blurred of course. The second method using edge detection gives crisper edges; try experimenting with horizontal or vertical edge detection and using adjustments to layers as you go through the process ... go on .. it's fun :-D I have also been plying with using the sketch to create a watercolour effect too, much fun with the free watercolour brushes. I haven't got a good process yet with the watercolours but I'm experimenting and when I get a reasonable process I'll share it. Please join in with ideas and or developed processes if you like; I'm having fun anyway :)
  16. I'm assuming that Affinity Photo is like Photoshop & Affinity Designer is like Illustrator, so here's my question. Do I want to buy Affinity Photo or Designer for a more traditional sketching feeling? What I'm trying to say is like for example, with Photoshop I am more free to sketch the way I like it. With Illustrator your a little bit restricted like every stroke it'll correct/"smoothen" up and not work the way I want to. I did buy Affinity Designer which is feeling more like Adobe Illustrator than Photoshop.
  17. It would be nice to have an application on your smartphone to see how your artboards look like in action. Exspecially for me as a developer is that quite important. I've already seen this feature on "Sketch" and it would be really helpful to have the same opportunity. Thank you
  18. I'm working in a Sketch shop and have to supply sketch files as deliverables - or at least for archive purposes. Copy/Paste from AD appears true visually so that's great. problem is that my careful organisation and labelling of elements in AD is lost. Given that Affinity is making a big play for UI use in 1.5, I think tidying up this part of the realworld workflow that many of us in this area have to deal with, is essential. Sketch has such a grip on this area, we need to be able to deliver editable files that are organized ande make sense to Sketch users. Obviously it's impractical to relabel everything on export, then do it again (once would be beyond practical) on the next export. Hoping this isn't a big ask - given the structure is there already - its just the labelling that's getting lost (I think)
  19. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but as you can see in my profile pic I once figured out the steps it takes to create a sketch from a photo. But now, when I go to View>Outline with the same photo, I get a blank canvas. Can someone help me out? (I'm in pixel mode, but I tried it in regular mode, too.) :)
  20. I frequently use software to clean up hand drawn art. I use red(or blue) sketch lines and then ink over them, similar to standard practices in comic illustration. In photoshop there is a relatively simple process to remove the red lines and in recent years a script to handle the whole process. How can I do this in Affinity Photo(or designer)? Sample sketch attached.

So let me first start off by saying I am a visual designer. I do graphic work, but I have been trying to draw more lately. I spend a lot of my time doing corporate branding type work. Now that Affinity Designer is here it really has freed me from the Adobe world. I am not very good at drawing directly into the computer( I really not as good at drawing as I want to be either) and to be honest I prefer to step away from the screen and doodle in a sketchpad. After I am done doodling I take a picture of my work with my phone and import my drawing. I use the drawing tools to trace, alter, clean up, and embellish my work. This is my first go beyond doodling and it was all completed in Affinity Designer! I did not experience one crash. The program is as fast, smooth and intuitive as they say. I am looking forward to growing with this application! So much to learn so little hours in a day! Thanks guys! You really are putting a powerful and respectable tool in our hands!

    colours sketch vs affinity sRGB

hi guys, Im a UI/Ux designer, a really hate making illustrations in sketch so I do that in affinity designer. the problem is when I import my vector into sketch, the colours go all weird. (see attachment) I found out the both sketch AND affinty use sRGB, so i dont know why. Affinity has some settings I can tweak but non seem to help, and sketch just uses sRGB. https://sketchapp.com/learn/documentation/15-other/4-color-management.html is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Cheers, guys.

    RGB colours

I've create a little illustration, when copyy pasting it to sketch the colours go wierd. the correct colour should be "81BA2F" when checking with photoshop both ar not this colour. anyone know how to get consistant colouring?
  24. I have made a drawing similar to the one in the Affinity Designer - Shading Using Raster Brushes tutorial, but I'm wondering to get the colors like that. I have the "Ink" layer as in the video, but don't know how to add this "colour" layer and how to add the color in it...
  25. Hey there! My name is Benjamin, and I just started to use the marvelous piece of software by Serif today (even though AD is a world for itself). Never did serious stuff in Photoshop, so it's kind of a double debut. I started arts 2 years ago and I still suck, so I'd love some critique. I will also use this thread to keep on publishing my work. Cheers!
