  1. Please make the image frame properties a studio panel with keyboard shortcuts. Ideally, I'd like the frame properties to be accessible even when you select a placed image within a frame. That is because if you group an image with a text frame (to add a description for the image), it is the easiest to Ctrl+click the image to access it's fitting settings. But right now, it's tedious to select the image frame in a (nested) group. See this topic:
  2. Something I have been wondering for a while is why my file size changes so much between consecutive versions of the same document (book)? I have been continuously adding images, text & pages and notice that my file dropped from 25 MB to 18 MB just now, despite filling a text column and adding image. I don't have save history enabled, so it's kinda weird to me. Whenever the file gets smaller, it also performs quite a bit better. The difference is definitely noticeable — the document goes from lagging when typing to fluent.
  3. I'm have a publisher page with multiple photo's (over 30) all in 4:3 but in multiple sizes. How do I give them all the same exact height in one transformation. I don't want to retype the size for all images.
  4. I am attempting to export just the selected group. This works fine in a different document, but in this one the group gets shrunk to the corner. The canvas page is 100inches by 100inches 300-dpi when I change the drop down to "Whole Document" the pixel changes to 30k by 30k. But if I change it to "Selection Area Only" the pixels change to 110k + ... I am prompted that png can only export at a max of 37k pixels. I then reduce the pixel size to around 7500 pixels, and the preview beings to generate however it is like this (picture) and it exports that way too. furthermore, if I attempting to export anything above 10k pixels it simply just does not load. This is for any file I have, not just this one. I would like to make a large tapestry print for getting a large quality print is important. could this be simply because of my computer processing power? it is a 2018 gaming Asus TUF gaming laptop.
  5. Document applati : 250 Megabytes ! Export JPG : 11 Megabytes. How to obtain a file size acceptable ? Thank you.
  6. Hi, I've been using the first version since it's beginnings and love it. I have a little problem though with the version 2: I noticed that after converting the file from Raw to JPG, the dimensions change as soon as I open/close it with the version 2 compared to the version 1. The file size is originally 7952 x 5304 pixels. Can you explain to me what I'm doing wrong or is it a "glitch" in version 2? Thanks
  7. I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?
  8. Hello! I work a lot creating videos for social media and sometimes we need to alter the information of the screenshot, so I wanted to know if this is possible. In the example below, I've selected an area and I want to quick import an image to this area with the same size as well, this is possible? Like when you put a image on a mask and want to keep the image size but to replace it. How I do this on Affinity Photo? Cheers,
  9. Hi, I'm new to use Affinity Photo and Affinity Design. Till now I used Photoshop. I'm missing some function in Affinity. Can someone tell me how to rotate the canvas in Affinity Photo and how to change the Brush size with the mouse like Photoshop.
  10. When using the brush tool in Affinity apps I always get very odd brush size increments when using the square bracket ( [ ] ) keys to change the brush size. If I use a 10px brush and use "]" to size it up one increment, it doesn't go to the expected 15px, but rather to 11,5 px. And then, if I press the "[" key to size the brush back down to 10px from 11,5px, it randomly ends up at 9,8px (?). Pressing "]" three times from 9px results in 9px, 10,4px, 11,9px, and 13,7px, instead of the expected 9px, 10px, 15px, and 20px values. I find this a bit strange, as I feel that decimal pixel values for brush sizes make little to no difference, and it's just generally odd that using the square brackets to change brush sizes doesn't just use rounded increments - I hate mentioning Photoshop as a reference example, but if if ain't broke... For instance, using the brackets between the values 1px and 10px should only change the brush size in increments of 1px (1,2,3,4,5px...), anything between 10px and 50px should change in increments of 5px (10, 15, 20, 25, 30px...), anything between 50px and 100px should change in increments of 10px (50, 60, 70, 80, 90px...), anything between 100px and 200px should change in increments of 25px (100, 125, 150, 200px), then 50px, and anything above 300px should change in increments of 100px every time you press the square bracket(s). Is there a significance to these weird, decimal pixel increment values? If so, is there a way to change it back to something more normal/user friendly?
  11. Good afternoon, guys. Does anyone know how to copy the size and location of one layer to another? Since resizing and locating an image so that it is the same as another is very tedious. Please I hope your help. In the attached image I show the example, layer 1 I want to have the size and location of layer 2. Thank you.
  12. Hey, im working on my portfolio currently which includes a lot of pictures and files and my question is how do I minimize the size of the finished file? It is only allowed to have 10MB if I want to send it to clients but if I export in lower quality you can't see the images very clear. Is there a solution to minimize the size of the finished file to 10MB without losing the sharpness of the images? Thanks
  13. Hello there, I have been having some issues searching not only the forums but the web for this answer as well. Attached is are two images of my monitor with Affinity Designer and with Adobe Illustrator open and with the gradient properties editor open in each. I have a 4K monitor, which of course makes everything smaller, but I need the screen real estate. I also know it is not necessarily fair to compare Designer to Illustrator, but I am looking for the Affinity solution compared to the Adobe solution. I have a gradient that needs multiple points. In this case, around but not specifically 20. When working with the gradient editor as it currently is, being only a small drop down from the bar at the top, this is nearly impossible to achieve without some massive mouse and keyboard acrobatics. I know that in Illustrator, I have the option of resizing the gradient editor and even detaching it from the menu as shown here. I need that huge gradient editor for the gradient I am creating. I really need to have the numeric values available to me since I have to place them precisely and set specific colour values for each point, like the image of Illustrator attached. I would like to know how to detach it from the top menu bar and make it its own flyout window panel, or put it in a different spot, but either way, be able to resize it so I have a very long gradient editor on which I can place tons of colour points and navigate them with ease, and again, set precise colour values for each. If this is not possible (which I doubt, Affinity is far better than Illustrator so far) then please help me find a work around. Thanks! -Kim
  14. I created a test file. The supposed size is 165x40mm You find it in attachment "Untitled.svg" Printing it, it's ok. But when imported in other tools, it results way smaller Here below screenshots: Here inside Affinity Designer Imported in INKSCAPE Imported in KiCAD What's wrong please? Untitled.svg
  15. Not sure if this is Affinity's problem or Illustrator's. But object size in SVG Affinity exported will be little different in Illustrator. (I even set the doc dpi to 72 in order to make the SVG more compatible with Illustrator.) Also outcome will be different when the viewbox option is off. The size of 200 mm box in Illustrator: Viewbox on 199.756 mm - not acceptable. Viewbox off - acceptable 199.999 mm doc-for-svg.afdesign
  16. Can you enable mouse drag to resize selected text/font in the character menu, similar to character tracking, kerning and scaling functions.
  17. I am using the latest version of Affinity Publisher downloaded yesterday, but this is a problem that I have been wrestling with for some time. At the moment I have a Publisher document for the WEB that has pages measuring 1600px wide X 1200px in landscape. I want to add a number of pages that are 1600px wide X 2400px. Whatever I do, the settings just will not take ? What am I missing or doing wrong ?
  18. Hi, Recently started using Publisher on Windows 10. Seems to work ok, not using anything advanced - just placing text & images, ToC & a simple Index. The file size seems to fluctuate - a lot. e.g. I have a file of 73Mb, copied it to a test file (x.afpub) then opened x.afpub & typed a space, saved it, size = 52.5Mb. So increasing the content reduced the file size! I removed the single space & saved again - now 62.7 Mb Next step was to do some very minor edits (corrected some spellings & phrasing) - x.afpub is now back to 52.5Mb. I do not save the history on closing. What is going on? What else is being kept in the file that I can turn off? TIA
  19. Would be nice if Affinity shows size tooltip while using the marquee tools and the crop tool. Like the one while using the shape tools - showing W and H. I know I can see it on the Transform panel but the tool tip is easier to see.
  20. I have weird issue where I set the size to 5x7 in but when printed it is not 5x7 in. size issue.afpub IMG_1448.HEIC
  21. Hi Guys, Im currently working on a name badges template for a company. The size in Affinity designer is 74mm x 24mm When I export to pdf and print it they are 70mm x 23. This is also when "fit" is turned off. Is there anything I need to change when exporting to pdf? could DPI have anything to do with it? srry Im a web guy and not a print guy :P Hope you can help.
  22. HI Guys Does anyone know how I can stop affinity photo jumping the size of the pics on screen all the time. I have to continually click "Actual Size" all the time. Its getting rather annoying now :-( Also when "Resampling" a pic or for Affinity "Resize Document" can Affinity possibly put in a Percentage to scale to. Its nice to have instead of inserting pixel sizes all the time. Thanks, so far enjoying this new product that i purchased yesterday.
  23. Even with the 1.5 updateI still cannot not crop to a specific size. In PS, if I set the crop for 8x10 and the crop mask stays 8x10 and saves as 8x10. Affinity seems to have made this very simple process very difficult, even with 10 years of PS experience, I can't seem to make sense of this dynamic crop tool that changes while you size. Seriously, is there a hidden tool to lock is at the preferred dimension. The tutorial seems to make it even more difficult. Again, I just want to set the crop tool at i.e., 8x10, and save it as 8x10 and the exported file comes out 8x10! No more!
  24. Hi everyone! I have been using Affinity Designer quite recently. But at the very beginning, I had problems that I still cannot solve. Can someone tell me how this can be done. First question: After I have created the document, I cannot resize it normally. That is, I do not know the exact values of the width and height, I would like to just pull the edges of the canvas and select the optimal size. But I cannot find how to do it. When you select the "Resize" item in the menu, you need to know the specific values for the length and width to adjust, but I do not know them. It would be convenient if the canvas at least changes when you change the parameters, but this does not happen. Is there a solution to this problem? Second question: I found that you can convert canvas to artboards and then you can resize them when you drag on the edges. BUT. The background behind the artboards turns an awful bright gray. This is very distracting. Can this be changed? Thank you for your responses!
  25. Hi guys! I was working on some social media ads for a client and created a simple template for all major social media ad sizes including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat and Reddit. This is a simple file with art boards for all your ad designs. It could come in handy next time you need to create a simple promo banner or ad for a client. Cheers! Social Media Banner Ads.afdesign
