  1. Hi Affinity, Version 1.6 of the designer works in some areas much better. I am still having some issues, that are really annoying in a quick production workflow: I select several objects within the workspace and move them with SHIFT cursor (left, right, up, down) it works perfectly. BUT: If I select multiple objects in the layers palette I cannot move the objects with SHIFT + cursor down or up, instead it selects more objects in the layers palette. It ist quiet often the case, that I have to select the objects I am trying to move in the layers palette, and then move them with cursor keys to have an equal distance between them. Is there a way to prevent the layers palette being in the focus for the SHIFT+cursor entry? Cheers Tim
  2. Hi, I made the switch from Adobe Creative Cloud to Affinity Designer and Photo. I don't regret it at all but I'm missing something really useful that neither Affinity Designer nor Photo have. I'm talking about how it's possible to resize from center in Photoshop just by using ALT modifier. Same think about SHIFT modifier to keep aspect ratio. The best is to be able to use those modifier separately or combine. Can you consider adding this? Thank you so much
  3. I'm sure somewhere on this whole forum is a big discussion about Affinity Designer's decision and recounted inconsistencies about how it handles SHIFT + <resize object>. I'm sorry if I've tread into an already well-debated topic with a new thread. While I believe the original Affinity idea and implementation is that proportional resizing is almost always used so it should be the default (therefore SHIFT + <resize object> performs the action non-proportionally). However, I find the implementation across different types of use cases in AD is extraordinarily inconsistent. In fact, when I try to recount the different use cases, I can't remember if they scale proportionally or not because of the inconsistencies and variety of use cases. At the most basic level, it seems really inconsistent that a group is sized proportionally, but a shape (rectangle, circle, etc.) isn't. Turning a shape into a symbol then makes the default resizing action behave proportionally. Layers and groups are symbolically the same, so their resize behaviour seems the same too. However an artboard (effectively similar as it holds objects) is not resized the same as a layer/group (holding down shift and resizing the artboard does it proportionally). Images and text are sized proportionally. Drawings (i.e. with the pen/pencil tool) are not sized proportionally. If the default proportional resizing action is to <resize object> WITHOUT holding down shift, then it should be carried across all use cases, making holding down SHIFT + <resize object> resize non-proportionally. User experience-wise, I don't like having to keep track & adjust for the inconsistent behaviour — it is not intuitive nor consistent and causes friction. I just want non-proportional resizing when not holding down SHIFT, and when holding down SHIFT for the resizing to be proportional. Is it possible to have this as an option in the app?
  4. Does the layer list get activated when the mouse cursor moves above it? If so, what would people like the idea to be able to assign Ctrl, Alt or Shift as modifiers to mouse wheel, to be applied to that list? Functions like: Ctrl+Wheel = Move Selected layer up/down Shift+Wheel = Select layers up/down Alt+Wheel = Change layer transparency/mode Other functions to enable with modifiers could be like: wheel Up = Show layer wheel Down = Hide layer wheel Up = Select widget tabs right wheel down = Select widget tabs left
  5. Hello. I have been using Illustrator regularly since CS2 (~10 years), and I recently purchased Affinity Designer. I'm interested in a dictionary of Illustrator features and workflows done in Designer. I'm willing to pay $$$ for it too. For example: Illustrator anchor point: Designer it is called an X Illustrator outline mode: Designer go to X menu and click Y Illustrator direct selection tool: Designer combination of X tool and Y tool. If you need to select and move one Z Illustrator reflect tool: Designer not a tool, but reflection function, etc... Unreal Engine has some pretty good Unity to Unreal transition resources (I won't link to them since this is my first post). Does such a resource exist for Affinity Designer?
  6. AP keeps proportions locked as long as you scale only one layer (using the handles). Pressing shift unlocks the constraint. Fine so far. As soon as you selct more than one layer, the behavior is inverted. You have to press shift to keep the proportions. Can't be intended, is it?
  7. When I'm in a numeric text field, holding down the Shift key as I tap the arrow keys should increase/decrease the value 10x. (At the moment this key combination acts to select the text before/after the insertion point, which, while standard behavior for text fields, is not the expected behavior for numeric input fields.)
  8. Hello everyone! This is another feature request. I'd like to request a feature that lets users of Designer and Photo use tools in a straight way when holding shift. For example, when I want to draw a straight line, holding down shift should draw a line between starting point and current cursor location. This behaviour should be added to other tools as well. If I want to use the "Smudge Brush Tool" or the "Inpainting Brush Tool" in a straight way, there is currently no way of doing so that I'm aware of. Adding shift + alt for snapping to multiples of 45° between starting point and current cursor location could be very useful as well. Also, I do know about left clicking using the "Paint Brush Tool", then holding shift and clicking at the end point to get a straight line. But this behaviour is limited to that tool and you don't get a live preview of the line or snapping to multiples of 90° or 45°. The "Free hand Selection Tool" includes a similar feature to the one that I just requested. The difference is that the existing feature doesn't use the cursor location when left mouse clicking for its starting point, but rather the cursor location when starting to hold shift. This does make sense for that specific tool, but I think other tools would benefit from a set starting point at the time when mouse left is clicked. And that existing feature doesn't seem to have any snapping options either, which could be useful sometimes. Best wishes, Shu
  9. Hello everyone! I've got some questions about shortcuts in Affinity Photo and Designer: 1.: I read that ctrl + shift + tab is supposed to let me jump to the next file. But for whatever reason, this only works sometimes. Is there a different way to jump to the next / previous file? Could I be doing something wrong? 2.: Is there a way to select the layer above / below the currently selected one? I am working on OSX 11.6 using Designer 1.5.1 and Photo 1.5.1. Thanks for any help! Shu
  10. Hey, So in Photoshop you can Ctrl click a layer and use either Alt, Shift, and Alt+Shift (on Windows) to allow the subtracting, adding or selecting the intersection of the current selection. This is really handy for creating masks and composite shapes. I know in Affinity Photo that you can Ctrl click a layer to select the opaque area, but using the keyboard modifiers doesn't seem to do anything else. Is there another way to do what I do in Photoshop in Affinity Photo? Cheers, Mark
  11. Especially with the stroke width slider I would like to constrain the selection to whole numbers, or predefined common values. I guess I am used to Xara where it is a drop-down offering None, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 etc. At present I drag and end up with a value like 1.3 which I then have to modify by hand (typing). Perhaps constraining to whole numbers if pressing Shift while dragging? Or do it the opposite way around (like the Zoom slider in Navigator Panel) where there are fixed stops that the slider snaps to, but holding Alt disables the snapping?
  12. According to this thread, holding down the Shift key while dragging on any of the colour slider controls should make the other controls move in step with it, but there is no obvious difference between dragging without a modifier key and dragging with Shift (or any other modifier key) held down.
  13. As the title suggests, I find the resizing modifier keys inconsistent in both applications. Example: Open Designer Choose a primitive shape and hold down the shift key as you place it on the canvas so it has an aspect ratio of 1:1 Now grab one of the corner handles and shift-drag to resize your object and it retains that aspect. Select Layer -> Rasterize Grab a corner handle of the object and shift-resize it Undo because that's not what you expect to happen Re-grab the corner handle and hold down option instead and it retains aspect ratio. Now grab a side handle and try the same thing. Option has no effect, shift retains aspect ratio. Is this an error? Or is there some internal logic that I'm not appreciating? Or is there some obscure setting that means this is only affecting me?
  14. Please consider adding the following behavior: When the user holds down Shift + rotates the canvas, constrain the rotation of the canvas to 15° increments. Thank you of your consideration and lal you do.
  15. I’m sorry that I always bring Fireworks as comparison but its workflow was/is just so convenient. Here is another one: When you had guides shown and the default selection tool (V) selected, pressing the Shift key showed the distance between those guides between which the cursor was placed. I’d love to see that in AD, too.
  16. I recently dislocated and fractured my right shoulder in a wake boarding accident. Attached is the Xray. I cloned the gap, but when i went for a follow up, my bones did not reflect the changes I made in the x-rays? why not?! Seriously, I can only type with one hand, which seriously impedes productivity while typing (playing around with dictation controls, although not as good as Siri...) but more so using modifier keys and chording is a good challenge, lol... I enabled Sticky Keys, which almost solves the problem, but AD doesn't seem to "remember" the command - shift sticky keys before the MouseUp... here's a screencast (https://minbox.com/app/collections/vK07Twx). I'm using the latest Yosemite and your latest beta on macbook pro (8,2) w 8GB
