  1. Hi there beloved community, I'm looking for some advice on how to implement a bezier curve shadow as shown in the image below. I have tried creating curved shapes, then duplicating the layer and applying multiple blend modes with varying angles, but this results in a jagged shadow... As well as a hard end to the shadow in certain sections. Personally, this feel this is wrong as I end up with three or four layers for one shadow, I'm fairly certain this is a result of me not knowing how to apply the affect correctly. Can anyone suggest a way of creating this shadow shape? Thanks in advance!!
  2. Hey guys! I made a video to teach you about how to make Real shadows in Affinity Designer ✅ Creating the Silhouette - Duplicate the Object ✅ Transform the Layer - To Distort ✅ Color Overlay - FX - Make the silhouette in Black ✅ Gaussian Blur - to dissolve the Light ✅ Transparency Tool - for opacity and blending I hope you will enjoy and learn a lot with these tips To watch just click the button below Regards Jhon Silva - Vectorize
  3. Within the Develop Persona, there are particularly little keyboard shortcuts that can be configured. While most of the action occurs within the studio panels, the toolbar items are the ones that need to be mapped to keyboard shortcuts the most. Nevertheless, there are no options for me to assign show highlight clipping (O in Camera Raw), blackpoint clipping (U in Camera Raw) or clipped tones, Single view, Split view or Mirror view, neither for Sync before/ after or swap. I am also missing a toggle to toggle between the original, non-modified version of the image and the developed image, because once I synced before/ after, I cannot go back to the non-modified image.
  4. Hi, I tried searching the forums for the answer, but nobody seemed to need the thing I do. The thing is, in my work there's a repetitive task of extracting objects/products photographed on white seamless background in such a manner to save its shadow separately. So extracting the object in AP is as easy as in PS, but how to select the shadow so I can then place the object with its natural shadow on a different background? The method I use in PS is to CMD click the RGB channel icon to select the image highlights, then CMD+I to invert the selection (to select the shadows), then I create a new layer and fill it with black which gives me only the shadows in the image, but they sit in a separate translucent layer, so I can place this shadow on any background in future. Then I cut out just the object/product, and have it on a separate layer above the shadow, with full color and opacity. This way I can place the object with its shadow wherever I need, be it a color background, a gradient, a texture – doesn't matter because the object is opaque and the shadow is semi-transparent and falls off naturally. I know AP is different from PS and I don't really want to do this the same way, just to get the same result. How do I do it? Thanks a lot in advance :)
  5. On the image, there is a shadow on the downloaded cup. I';m trying to create the effect of how that shadow would look on the anniversary greetings that I've laid on it. I've tried numerous things but my attempts look like an eel coated with black ink rolled around on that left side of the cup. Is this effect possible? anniversary mug.afphoto
  6. I came across a tutorial for reducing 5 o'clock shadow or stubble from a photo. Can anyone help me accomplish the same thing in Affinity Photo? In particular, there's a step in this Adobe Photoshop tutorial (link below) where a "pattern" is created, and then the Healing Brush makes use of this pattern to effectively reduce the stubble. I'm not sure there is such a feature in Affinity Photo for creating a pattern that would be usable by the Healing tools. Or..... as often seems to happen inside Affinity Photo, maybe there's a better way than the Adobe approach. Thanks for any good input anyone can provide. *** Photoshop tutorial: Reducing 5 O’Clock Shadow And Beard Stubble In Photoshop ***
  7. Hello Affinity members, I am creating assets for a game in Affinity Designer 1.7.3.481. For that I am using isometric 2:1 grid. In the editor everything looks fine. But after I export it, the resulting PNG has a strange outline or shadow around it. Please see picture attached. This is a 512x256 PNG, the outline is there no matter the export resolution. How do I get rid of this? It looks awful in the game. EDIT: I downloaded latest Affinity Designer version and the problem persists.
  8. @Sean P and the vector team many have asked for a new way to manage shadow on objects etc (myself included) so I propose that the vector Team investigate on Logoist by Synium software; it has an acceptable way of doing things when it comes to shadow (drop down, long shadow etc.) and maybe from there you can build something pretty and original. I'm enjoying current Beta phase a lot but I believe many have needs so even small implementation can and would help to be patient and tempted not to hop between apps. Help us Help you guys. Thanks and Blessings.
  9. Please enjoy a short video about text-linked 3D Effect or shadows. Notes: - tl;dr: use symbols - for adjustments on shadow-copies disable sync and use layer effects only, then re-enable sync when you're finished - manipulation of fill/stroke properties while sync is disabled will break the link of the text content, i.e. if you change the text later the shadow won't update anymore - transformations applied to the symbol affect only the selected instance - transformations applied to the text inside the symbol while sync is enabled will also apply to other instances, i.e. if you stretch/rotate/... the original, the shadow will follow. However, I managed to break this particular link somehow while experimenting, not sure what the exact conditions are. Cheers! 2020-09-21_11-41-58.mp4
  10. Couldn't find this existing, couldn't post to tutorials, so here we are. Short clip about text-linked dropshadow/3D effect shadow attached. Share, enjoy, move to tutorials if you like. Cheers! 2020-09-17_17-14-50.mp4
  11. Hey ho! My handsome cat shown in a new light - what do you think? Photo taken with my good old Nikon D90. Enjoy it 😃 Chris
  12. Hi Using Gradients, or shadow effects dramatically increases the exported SVG file size. Do anyone have any tips/tricks for how to use gradients in a way that does not affect the file size? This is important for use on webdesign etc. By example, a file was 4kb, without gradient. Introducing 1 gradient and 1 shadow effect resulted in a 60kb SVG file. Anders
  13. How can I create a unique shadow layer. I think in Affinity is the onlyest way, to coloured and gaussian blur the cut image for under layer? In PS I have the option to create a own layer from the level style. Something like that goes with affinity? In this simple example, it is not a problem, but there are complex scenes of where it would be a great help. Thanks for your Ideas Alexis
  14. @MEB This is not only about using gradients. It's about dropping a long flat shadow. Regardless of the gradient. It would be great if Affinity Designer can generate such a shadow shape from another shape (or group or text). Or a FX. Maybe an option for Outer Shadow or a complete new entry to cast such long shadow.
  15. Hello! I haven't found a solution for my problem, though there are some similar topics here. I wanted to create an outer shadow for a button. The fill of the button was transparent (36%), and I wanted the shadow to have 100% opacity, but that is impossible: there is a dependence between opacity of a block and its shadow's opacity. Here is a picture. May be this is my mistake, anyway I hope to get a solution for that. Thank you!
  16. Hello everyone! I'm having a hard time with something I'd like to do in Affinity Designer and don't know if it's because I don't know how to do it, or because I'm understanding things the wrong way. Is there a way to use multiple blending modes but that between them they don't affect each other? I have a base layer (flat colour). On top, I have a shadow layer and a highlight layer with multiply and overlay blending modes respectively, but because of how I stack my layers, it's easier for me to do one layer and the other below it, instead of making them precise. In 100% opacity normal layers, this works because the top one hides the one below, but with blending modes they, well, blend. Is there a way for me to make them not apply to anything but the "base layer"? I tried masking a copy of the base layer but the blending mode wouldn't apply, and in any other way, undesired interaction between layers was happening. I'm adding an image to make myself more clear The layer panel at this time looks like this: - (Stuff) - Shadow group (with multiply) - Highlight group (with overlay) - Base colour layer Thanks a lot for your time!
  17. How do we do Block Shadow? As far as I understand this feature is not available. Actually, it is a much-needed feature.
  18. How do I add more than one shadow (effect) to the same layer? For example, adding two different shadow effects to the same object?
  19. You’re propose your app as a tool for work in vector. This is not true. You can add a lot of elements easily, work with color, blur etc. But once you need to scale the vector object you’ve created YOU SHOULD MANNUALLY GO TO EACH OBJECT AND SET “SCALE WITH OBJECT” Could you please set as priority ticket for your developers add a SCALE FUNCTION when you can just click on the object, click in Edit Menu “scale”, set ratio or percentage and you will get scaled option of your image. In addition your export feature need so much power from my Macbook that comparing it to the Illustrator. I’d better avoid all of those coll things you’re proposing just to get scalable and adopted vector file.
  20. Hey, just wanted to share with you my latest tutorial on Affinity Designer. In this video you will learn how to create a nice looking flat design moon in Affinity Designer. Hope you'll find it useful! Click here to view the tutorial
  21. When trying to add a shadow / outline or something from effects on to a layered or grouped item the outline lets say turns green instead of red. Why would this be? I can't for the life of me work it out. P.s. I am a newbie to Affinity products and the forum. Thank you Andrew Windsor. bowling1.afdesign
  22. I’m curious how I create a similar effect? I’m looking to create the colored shadow that surrounds two objects that are close to each other.
  23. Hello all! I'm trying to make shadows that follow Google's Material Design (Like in the lightning logo attached). I know to make a curve with a darker color, but I cant get it to snap perfectly- with the same diagonals, etc. Another picture below is something I'm trying to make, but as you might be able to see, the diagonals from the bottom part of the plus and the top part are not the same. Let me know. Thanks!
  24. I know this is not a clone of DrawPlus, but I cant deny the fact the shadow tool is very limited in 'Designer' and 'Photo' compared to DrawPlus and this is something I would really appreciate being worked on and implemented in the future. Cheers Ryan
