  1. Suggestion that the Image Properties Scale to Max Fit actually choose in which dimension the image fits into the Picture Frame and then fit the picture into the frame in that dimension. Often the scale is performed correctly, but currently, the image often ends up partially "out of the picture" and partly invisible and partly in the Picture Frame. The result is that the user must often grab the image center and move it manually into position in that (one) dimension. Often that is all that needs to be done. In some cases one might have to resize and reposition. Three screen shots - one after scaling to max fit and the other after manually dragging the image into the center of the frame, and the third is the original image from the source document (it's just a tad wider). Oh, and just to note, in some cases, the "scale to max fit" to fix the image actually comes out larger in both x and y dimensions than the frame - but that's rare. I haven't been able to capture a screen shot of that yet. And here is a little background. I have two documents open - a source and a target. The images from the source page are copied and pasted to the target as a "group" - then the group has to be moved to a page and made somewhat centered by locking the aspect/relationships and dragging one corner of the group inward to fit a smaller page. During this action (making the group fit a smaller page), any source images that are not already marked with "scale to max fit" will be dragged out of their frames instead of staying intact within their frames (first screen shot shows this). This is why the target images sometimes need to be reset to 'scale to max fit' and centered into their frames. I'm making this a feature request/suggestion, but it may fall into the "bug" category...
  2. Please add a Dimension tool & document scaling to fully enable technical drawing along with the excellent illustration tools. We could do this manually in the interim if the transform studio displayed more resolution, 3 or 4 decimals should do it. Thanks!
  3. Hi there, in designer for the iPad I have the option to scale with object, meaning my lines will scale with resizing. in photo I cannot find this option, or is there another way for this. henk brouwer
  4. Is there a way to scale corners proportionally without having to convert to curves? And why'll I'm at it, how about line thickness? Can that be scaled proportionally without expanding the stroke? Sorry if this has been answered before, it seems such an obvious thing to ask for but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
  5. Hey there, I am currently having an issue importing IDML files into Affinity Publisher that is bugging me a lot. I have been working on a document for quite some time now in InDesign and want to continue work in Publisher. So, I exported the file as IDML and imported it into the Affinity software. My problem is that all font sizes are wrong now. E.g. a text with 11 pt font size which fitted perfectly into its frame in Design will now not fit into the frame at all since the font size is way too big. Am I overseeing a conversion step or something? I would be thankful if you guys could help me out here Thanks a lot!
  6. Can anyone help me how to randomize a bunch of object's position and scale for instance i wanna do a starred background with various position rotation and scale. In AI there is transform each command and you can randomize transform applied on objects. Thank you.
  7. I'm creating simple Bezier line drawings in Designer and exporting them as SVG files. When I import them into Carbide Create, a CAM app for running a CNC machine, the scaling is too small, generally by a factor of about 5.6. I can't just scale up for two reasons. The lines get choppy and the scale factor is not always exactly the same. I've tried a number of parameter changes to no avail. I have tried this process with iDraw and Inkscape, both export with proper scaling. When I import a Designer created SVG into either Inkscape or iDraw, I also must rescale the image although not necessarily with the same factor as Carbide Create. So, I suspect this is more an issue of how Designer is handling the SVGs.
  8. Is there a way to scale a slice on export? I have a large equirectangular image that I want to feed into another application at the highest resolution it supports. When I export the slice, it is too large for the receiving application (max 16384 x 8192). I'd like to be able to scale it to that resolution from within Affinity Photo during export.
  9. I’m wondering if there is way to scale objects / selections in Publisher using a percentage like there is in InDesign? Or is it limited to picking one of the pixel counters and doing the math to figure out by how much to input for the desired new scale...
  10. I use drawing scales and dimension lines in DrawPlus X8 a lot and am currently assessing whether I can move to Affinity Designer. I have failed to find similar features so far. Are they hidden somewhere under new names, are they planned to be implemented in the future or are they simply missing from affinity products?
  11. Hi, Is there a way to turn on percentage scaling for scaling an image placed within a picture frame? Shift, Alt, Ctrl none of the modifiers seems to work. Very annoying when i just want to scale a tiny bit
  12. Hi, there seems to be no "one click" way to resize/scale a layer or vector object to the current canvas size. I would love to see this as an option when adding a layer/asset or as a button on the transform tool context bar, because I often have to manually resize assets or new layers when dragging/dropping objects to a document. Seems it would take just little effort to implement this and would incredibly reduce the amount of manual adjustments. What do you think? This feature was already suggested some times as in the threads listed below but it seems there is no easy way to achieve the desired result:
  13. Is there a way to have text which is on a path, scale like regular text when part of a group? I'll try to explain in detail here: I have a group of objects consisting of 2 text layers, 4 shape layers. One of the text layers is on a path forming an arch over my shape layers. The lower text is just normal text. These are all grouped together as one object. When I scale the group, all the layers, including the bottom text scale proportionately. However the upper text layer (on the path), this text does not scale at all.z Thanks.
  14. Hello. I am trying to optimize/speed up my website, https://bizzyboost.com. I've been using Affinity for iPad to try to resize, edit some of the images, but I know I am not doing it the right way. So, if you guys could explain to me in laymen's terms, step by step, how to accomplish the following, that would greatly help. *On this report at GTMetrix, I keep getting horrible grades on the same images, which I've attached to this post for your convenience. *The rocket was downloaded here, and the lightning bolt was downloaded here. I have tried downloading them in all available formats to get it right, but no success. I'm doing something wrong, and I can't figure it out. *As you can see, the rocket image is huge; but on my website I don't need it to be that big. If you look at the first page of my site, you can see that resized significantly. Same with the lightning bolt. I'm just using it as a small logo at the top. *How exactly do I go about editing/cropping/scaling these images in Affinity for use on my website. Ideally, I would love to have the rocket image be resized in Affinity to the exact size I need it to be on my site, and the same with the logo. Without losing too much quality. Thank you for your time and attention.
  15. There have been similar posts earlier, but as it seems like nothing much has happened, perhaps the topic needs a push? Anyway, it seems to be two general kind of illustrators when regard to having strokes and lines scaling with objects; the first kind is the methodical one, who prefers to build up the drawing first and adding brushes afterwards, which I guess is a natural technique developed from the early days of vector based illustration. Then you have illustrators like me, who are newer to the game and who finally learn vector through programmes like Affinity Designer on an iPad, using Pencil. It’s fast and smooth and intuitive and you can easily swap between vector and raster. That makes it very easy to draw almost like you would draw on paper. You thrown down a quick sketch in raster and continue in vector, adding quick brush strokes, varying the brushes etc. Finally, you add colours and might do some shading in raster as well. But then we have the problem with scaling with objects. For the first kind of illustrator it’s preferable that this is not on by default. For the second kind, it would be great if one could have it on by default. I think that vector illustration has developed a lot since the beginning and is still developing, thanks to the development of software and hardware. Therefore I think lots of people would have welcomed such an option in the preferences. It would have been enormously time saving.
  16. Hey guys, I was recently designing a brochure in Publisher and I was simply trying to scale a group but for whatever reason it was not working how I thought it should work. Example - I had 2 placed images, a vector curve and some copy and headline text in a group. I wanted to scale the group proportionally and make it bigger, but when I did so the images and the vector curve scaled correctly and the headline text and copy pretty much stayed the same size. No matter which way I tried to do this it didn't work...I just ended up doing this manually (scaling the text manually and separately even though the headline and text was in a group) not sure what I'm doing wrong but I hope it's a simple fix..... This seems like a basic thing to be able to do (works in Indesign haha) Thanks in advance.
  17. [ macOS El Capitan 10.11.6, Affinity Designer 1.5.4 ] Hi guys! I've been working quite extensively with AD, testing it for producing artworks for a small laser cutting business I own. And I must thank you since I managed to replace AI for 80% of the time! (on the computer which controls the machine I have only installed AD) But there are some bugs that I find here and then. :D Here's one: I created the attached file by code (example.svg), using the makerjs library and spitting out an svg with precise cm dimensions (as needed for laser cutting). When I open it in AI, the size is fine (3x3cm total), when I open it in AD, it's 3x3px. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks PS: I also must say that when copying a layer from AD and pasting it in another AD document it doesn't maintain the scale. PPS: Is there a way to the Affinity to works always in cm as default? example.svg
  18. Not sure if this has been asked yet but is there a way to rotate or scale an object from a user defined origin instead of the default centre of the object?
  19. I have been learning to use the color grading technique by using swatches and LUT created on my now swatches. I have noticed that there are differences in color tones in my final images after the color grading is applied. I use 5 colour palette created from Image, saved on Location: Application. I have followed instructions from one PS tutorial and when adding colour from a palette to grade scale, I make sure that 2 colours, the two between black and midtown, midtown and white, are given values corresponding to L value showing up in the color picker window. Unfortunately, I cannot add the L value for the white and black point, as the Location box for these two in AP is inactive. The PS tutorial proposed also one step more: match the tones of colors by adding the tones values to the curve (see minute 8). I don't find this option in AP, when working with a swatch there is no way to adjust the curve. Any idea how I can match better the tones from th template in swatch palette? Please see the minute 8 in this tutorial. I do not know how to replicate this step in AP. Is it possible?
  20. Hello, is there any option to scale also the strokes of an object? I have tried to scale in some other software .... but without success :-( The original file is 640px (width), i need 22px width If possible, i would like to export th result also to an WMF File. Thanks for any ideas
  21. Hi. I read the only way to scale using specific values is by applying for.ex. =/2 within the dimension box. It works for me, sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. Is this a bug or I am missing something ? Sometimes I need to select my lines and de-select them and then select them again. Now is not working regardless of what I do. Any insights about this? Not other method to scale by a number/percentage? Thanks
  22. Story to illustrate what this feature is useful for: I designed a UI image (in designer) at the size of the retina iPad screen. Later I realised that I should have made the document the size of the old iPad screen and used the @2x export in the slices tool to get the retina resolution. So I edited the document properties and scaled the document down to half its original size. It worked well except that the rounded corners on all my buttons and boxes maintained the original radius from the larger image, giving the appearance that the radii of all those corners had doubled, relative to the new size of the design. Feature request: When resizing a shape in the main UI, it is usually desirable that the corners maintain their radius regardless of the scale of the shape. However, when resizing the entire document, it would be better to scale the corner radii proportionally to the change in document scale so that the appearance of the document remains the same after rescaling.
  23. Hi, I'm just getting started with Affinity Photo after using Photoshop for a long time, so I might have completely overlooked the solution, but here's what I'm trying to achieve: I would like to export a slice of my photos at a set resolution (N x M pixels), but I cannot figure out how if it's possible. I've seen the other hardcoded values, but is there a way to create my own? Thanks! Robert
  24. Hello At the moment it is not possible to scale a placed PDF with % always in relation to its original size. This is necessary if you work with scale plans etc. My request is to have a % number in the transformation tool to scale PDFs always to its original size, like it is already possible with pictures. Thank you.
  25. I think I remember reading a post regarding this topic but when I searched again I didn't see anything. Is there a reason why "scale with object" is unchecked by default for EVERYTHING. I don't see the relevance in having it turned off by default. FX, gradients, strokes, etc. I think when I read the post a month ago or so it said it was intended to be this way. I don't remember reading a legitimate reason but can we, or is there already an option to turn it on by default? That would save me SO much time and is an easy fix. I would rather uncheck it on the rare occasion I don't want something to scale with an object.
