  1. I’m working in the iPad version. IOS 14.0.1 Designer v1.8.6.1 I’m finding that saving a file from within the design doesn’t always work. I have to jump out of the design to the gallery view and SAVE there. Very annoying and distressing to find that SAVE is unreliable.
  2. I just purchased and downloaded Affinity Designer last night. I attempted to open a .ai file with it, and was met with an error regarding permissions. I also tried to save an Affinity project (.afdesigner), which was met with a permissions error as well. The error reads: I am only able to read/save files in my newly created Affinity Designer iCloud storage, which is not the workflow I will be adopting. Before anyone flags this as a duplicate or writes this off, know that I have: Tried saving to/reading from multiple directories within my home directory, not limited to my Documents folder. (eg: ` ~/`, `~/Pictures`, `~/Downloads`) Used CleanMyMac3 to repair my disk permissions (multiple times) Manually reset permissions on my home folder recursively to all subdirectories and files (Right click > get info > Permissions & Sharing) Manually reset permissions on my home folder via terminal Ran First Aid via Disk Utility Restarted my computer (between each step) Cleared Affinity Designer's data by holding down Ctrl while booting Uninstalled and re-installed Affinity Designer I've read that this is related to Apple's sandboxing. Regardless, it seems insane that the program can't interface with my hard drive. My email client, writing apps, and video games downloaded from the app store can, without any issues ever. Why can't Affinity? Also, if this is an App Store issue that is reoccuring, why not make a standalone version... I'd prefer that anyway.... Double bummer because I was so thrilled to be replacing Illustrator with an allegedly superior project at the cost of only $50. Hoping someone can help me.
  3. Hey there, I always forget to check the "Save History File with Document" after creating a new one. I understand, that not everybody wants to save the history by default, because it would make a lot of files a lot larger (I guess so?). But for others it would be nice to have a Checkbox in the (User-)Settings to get the history saved with the document by default when saving a document. Perhaps it would even be possible, to have a "per document"-exception-setting. Greetings, Johannes
  4. I get that I have to save my edited photos back to camera roll by export-share-save image, but somewhere along the line I’ve lost exif data, most importantly date and time taken. This means when I save to my cloud storage it’s out of date order with my other images. Surely there’s a solution for this but I can’t find one despite the searching. If I could save directly from affinity to amazon photos it might not happen but there’s no way to do that either afaik.
  5. Device: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) System: MacOS 10.15.3 (19D76) Designer version: 1.8.2 Can't save any files, just like the image said. Already open the FULL DISK ACCESS for Designer.
  6. I'm new to Infinity although I used to use Serif Page Plus from the very first version years ago. Great to find a suite of one-time purchase design and editing programs - I've bought all three - that I can use on my new MacBook Pro. Although searching through Help and the forum, I am having trouble finding out how to SAVE a Batch Process set of instructions. Do I really have to set it up from scratch each time I want to run it? Also I can't seem to reduce the size of a mix of landscape and portrait photos without one dimension being squashed - I do have the A for Aspect ticked and have tried putting the same number in each of the W and H windows. I have also tried W/2 and H/2 as suggested in the boxes which didn't work for me and also 50%. Please can you tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong?
  7. when working on a large file, as the one in the Workbook, Mother of Millions, I had to save the image down and carry on working the day after. When I came back to my image the Source Panel was empty. I'd lost all the images. I couldn't find any way to load them back in without importing every one of the 41 initial photos and clicking the Add Global Source button to bring each one back to the list. This is very time consuming and seems a little stupid really. I could find nothing in the documentation for repopulating the source panel. I tried saving history with document but that didn't help either. Is this an oversight or have I missed something? If it's not my error perhaps something needs adding to accommodate this facility?
  8. I have a deadline tonight but Publisher keeps crashing. Always when I try to save but also occasionally (on auto save?) not sure. file previously worked and saving / modifying worked fine
  9. Dear , How can I save symbols i created on one page to use in olther page.
  10. I can't get Designer to save my files in any folder containing my work. Every time I click on SAVE AS, name the file, and select a location, I get the warning: "Save failed because you do not have permission to create a file in that location." We're even talking about my Documents folder. Why would I not have permission to save files in my Documents folder? Just to reassure myself, I did a Get-Info on the Document folder and, for sure, I have the permission to Read and Write to that location. Also, I can't open a .jpg created by Photo because Designer doesn't recognize the file type. Again, this is the same .jpg that caused Photo to freeze after creating and saving it. Can someone tell my what may be happening here? With freezes and failures to save and open files, I haven't been able to work for days.
  11. Hi, How do I save my work in affinity Publisher demo. I already bought the software but haven't installed yet (via Mac App Store). Yesterday the Programm closed itself and everything was gone. I had to redo everything. I got to hand it in today. Please help me out. Greetings!
  12. When saving a file, Affinity Photo is creating a separate file each time I press cmd S, almost like saving as. I noticed this when I navigated to the folder I had saved my file to and found lots of copies of the file. I am saving to iCloud Drive. As I'm a newbie I thought this might be a versioning feature but I have since found that it shouldn't be happening. Tom
  13. I have at last decided to get to grips with Affinity after using DrawPlus , etc for years. My first introduction not good. In Designer I spent some time creating a new but simple effort (It included a photograph from my hard drive, some text, a graphic I created and some blocks of colour.) and then 'Saved as'. I gave a name for the document and selected a folder. I got messages asking should this and that be saved to which I answered yes. (I fancy because I let some items extend beyond the page). An icon appeared in the folder but when I tried later it would not load back in to Designer. So I created another, similar document (a bit quicker this time) and tried to save that with a new name. I got the message 'Save failed because access to the file was lost.' Yet the new icon was in the folder with its new name. But that won't open either. I'm using Windows 10 on a desk top computer and saving to an external drive. Help please.
  14. I've been using the Affinity suite for over a year now and never encountered an issue. However a few days ago I went to save a piece of work and it just ...wouldn't? No error appears and it doesn't crash. It just doesn't save the document. I've tried multiple pieces and even black canvases. When you click "save as" or control S then the little loading wheel comes up for a second then disappears and lets you continue but without saving. I'm not using a template and I'm not trying to save complicated documents for this. Does anyone know what's happening?
  15. Dear Affinity people, I've encountred a strange behaviour when saving files. I've always thought that the program will offer as a saving location the folder the original file was placed in. But when I open a picture in Affinity Photo, for example, make some adjustments and try to save it or export - it will show totally different location, without much sense. If I save it in some random location, the next time I open another file from a different folder, it will not even offer the last used location for saving - this would still be strange and make some sense but even this doesn't happen. So how exactly does the saving work? Why it doesn't offer the original location first? Thanks. David
  16. This may not be a bug, per se, but it seems very odd to have seen the warning message (attached). AFPUB 1.8.3; Mac OS X 10.15.3 I was editing and saving a document as I went. I had also saved sequential versions as I edited (to see if any problems arose). I keyed Command + S to "save" the file, did some more edits and keyed Command + S again and got this warning message. I should not have gotten that type of message as there is no other instance of AFPUB or any other process (including Design and Photo) that would access the document in question. That is to say there could be no reason (except bugs IMHO) that the message should have popped up. I did perform a "save as" as the message suggested.
  17. It would be very useful to be able to save also the different sources used in the Focus Merge function, to be able to make the often necessary corrections (halos, alignment errors, ..) in multiple work sessions because it may not be possible to complete the work at the same time.
  18. Hi, I tried to find solution but couldnt. For other tools you can go to Edit > Defaults > Save - for selection tool it doesnt work I want to have default settings for Refine - not have to manually change it each time and switch off that weird "matte edges" option (who even uses that) Is there a way to have default setting for Refine Selection tool? Same as per my photo?
  19. Im loving Affinity, great job. I am however trying to integrate it into a larger workflow using Cinema4D and Unity3D. Its great that I can open up a .psd into affinity but I want to be able to save as a .psd each time without having to export and save a separate file. I deal with hundreds of files like this and it is very slow and much more complicated to export separate .psd's. Unfortunately there is no support for Affinity in 3D apps and doesn't look there will (or ever will be). This could be solved if files could simple be saved .psd. Is there any way of saving .psd without export? Thank You!
  20. I opened via Media Browser a photo I have on Mac Photos App. Once I edited the photo in Affinity, is there a way to save the edited photo back to Mac Photos App
  21. Does anyone know what's the default setting for saving (not exporting) JPEG? After editing JPEG files with layers flattened, we could "save" the file directly. However, I don't know the quality and other settings when saving JPEG. I know I could export JPEG file with the settings I want, but to speed up the workflow, it'd be great if I could know and adjust the settings of default JPEG saving. If anyone knows how to do it, please let me know. Thank you very much for your help. Best regards, Sleepy
  22. Quick Background: I have Affinity Photo for both iPad and Mac and use is since 2017 (on and off as hobby). My main use is on the iPad and since 2019 i've started making big files (10.000px vs 7.000px) and many layers, some files are 1GB. I've had many crashing issues in the last 4 months (with older Affinifity Photo versions, then i got tired and stopped using it) where i lost my lastest editing since it wasn't automatically saving the file on the iCloud Drive (had set it to 'Save on iCloud' and even sometimes i clicked 'save' it didn't save the file on iCloud, because after crashing i saw i lost 30min, 1h work. I've resolved it idiotically by doing 'Save a Copy' into iCloud by every major editing i did (and this with 500, 700MB files isn't ideal). So I've just deleted Affinity Photo from my Mac and iPad, also manually deleted the 'Affinity Photo' from both iCloud Drive & iPad Drive folders and also deleted the Backup Folder. Now i'm ready to start afresh and would love to hear how you deal with files and folders... specially people dealing with big files on the iPad: Where do you save your files: iPad or iCloud Drive directly? Do you use the 'Affinity Photo' folder or some external iCloud/iPad Folder? If I open a file from iCloud, anytime i click Save, will it save it over this file? or into the 'Affinity Photo' folder in the iPad or iCloud? i know it creates these folders once i've installed Affinity. How many projects/files do you have on your iPad? Once you finish an artwork, do you save it on iCloud/iPad/USB and then 'close' the file to cleanup Affinity? I've had 30+ projects open, so not sure if this was also helping to crash Affinity. thanks
  23. I've got not that big of a file (16 megapixels, 8-bit and a couple of raster layers) that after saving shockingly took 700 mb of my disk space. I copied all of it's contents in a fresh document with the same dimensions, saved it again and BAM! - 100mb. What causes this colossal difference in file size when the content is 100% the same? I've noticed this is a persistent problem with Affinity Photo. When I finish with a project, I always have to transfer all the contents in a new document before saving otherwise I'd have clogged up my disk by now. Any way to avoid this or is this a bug?
  24. Hi How can we Save and then reload a "Batch Job" ? I have a couple of different Batch Jobs that I have to do on a regular basis. It would be far easier to save the setup, than having to check all the correct boxes again. Cheers
  25. When I try to close an image hitting Ctrl+W and "close document" pops up, keyboard does NOT work - I have to point my selections with mice. Very annoying, please fix it, thanks.
