  1. I want Affinity Photo to allow an auto generated file name extension to the original file name at save as. Currently we have an auto generation at save as: <original file name>.afphoto I would like: <original file name><automated file name extension>.afphoto Note i would prefer the option for the user to set the automated file name extension otherwise a short tag is suitable. This would then transfer to exported files as the automated file name will now be part of the original .afphoto file name. This is of significant value to me in how i search and retrieve files on Windows through multi tiered folders. Further, i do not feel confident i will remember 100% of the time to name the files correctly during naming a file at save as (small disability and human error!). Many thanks in advance
  2. First: Affinit Designer is really great - thanks to the Affinity team! (Former-time Corel user, then Inkscape, now switched to Affinity due to CMYK and better color management) My request: I often use Save-As to generate numbered versions of files (as backups, and so that when I discuss them with a client, we can refer to which version we are talking about). In the Save As dialog, it appears that AD defaults to the folder where I last saved anything. This is very tricky when working on files that lie in different folders. To me, the current behaviour is somehow unexpected, and I often accidentially store files in the wrong project's folder. The same happens when exporting, to PDF for instance. I can imagine that people might want to always export all PDFs to a certain folder no matter where the curent file is, so maybe we should also consider this use-case. My suggestion is: 1.) Save As: Default to the folder where the current file lies. 2.) Export (pdf etc, but also for palettes): Default to the folder where I last exported the respective file type when the current document was open. (Maybe its not a good idea to store file paths in documents (like the export paths necessary for 2.). For me, it would be ok if this only works for the last, say, 30 files I worked on, so it could be stored somewhere in the application options storage, not in the document files.) Would this cover all use-cases? Best, Philipp
  3. The current aproach of File -> Save as is the worst... It's like GIMP's very annoying feature. Save as should allow to save all known formats - JPG, PNG, TIFF, etc. So there are hundreds of forum posts regarding the save as and export commands, it's still not the best way, instead it's the most annoying ever. Save as should allow the user to save the file in whichever format he wants. When data loss may occur a warning dialog is good enough. By saving a document as means changing the working file name and changing the working file path. Export should save a file to another place, but the app should not change the working file and the working path. Forcing users to do it in a cumbersome way to "save as" their work is highly annoying. Practically Affinity Photo is useless for me right now. Anyway, who uses such a software for professional purposes is completely aware of the file format limitations! Please open any other software and see how it's working: - "Save" saves the currently opened document. If was not saved before, invokes the "Save as..." dialog. - "Save As" offers a list of known file formats to save the document. After saving, the file name/path is updated. Here, if the chosen format does not supports all extra data, a warning is enough. After saving the app sould keep all the extra data (layers, etc). After saving, a "file saved flag" should be set to not bug the user upon exiting the app that the file wasnt saved. - "Export" offers a list of known file formats to save the document. After exporting, the file name/path is NOT updated, the "file saved flag" isn't altered. The above workflow is the best. Implementing another way only annoys the user and renders the software unusable.
  4. In GIMP, when you import/open an image, you can make your edit(s) to said image and then immediately export it in it's original format with a simple hotkey or with two (2) simple clicks (File > Overwrite "example-image.jpg"). You can see this in the image attached. Please implement this feature or tell me how I can do something similar in no more than 2 actions. It GREATLY improves workflows of this nature. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hello friends, I placed a layered APh file into another file that's a comp. I edited the embedded APh file several times, so my original embedded doc as saved on disk is outdated. I now want to save out the embedded file as it's own file back to disk. When I go to edit the embedded document, Save As… is grayed out. What's the best way to save my file back to disk?
  6. I see you can open indesign files etc... but can you save them out as indesign so that I can send over to someone who only has indesign and not Affinity.. I know I can save as PDF's but that's not what I want.
  7. Hi - I added this video to my YouTube channel the other day and thought I would share here with all of you too! :-) A friend of mine asked me to create this video because he purchased some info-graphics on the internet but couldn't figure out how to separate them into different files. In this video I go over how to use the Export Persona in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo to capture and save specific portions of your images, designs, and illustrations. I show you how to do this in the four most common file formats: JPEG, PNG, EPS, and PDF. It's a simple way to breakout portions of an illustration or design and export just the portion you want - even if the objects are on separate layers within the project. So, if you've captured something from the internet, bought something from a designer, or even photographed something you wanted to use in your art, this video will show you how to quickly capture just the parts you want and save/export them for use in another program, project or design. Thanks so much for watching. Happy Creating. Jen
  8. When I try to 'save as' I get: I believe I'm only trying to do similar to what I do to save a photo/document in Affinity Photo/Affinity Designer but Affinity Publisher does not appear to behave in the same way. I bet there's something really basic that I'm missing! Thanks.
  9. Hello, in separated mode Affinity Photo and Designer don't take in consideration the "save dialogue window" that comes from top below every palette you have active in that moment. The result is that when anyone is trying to save files, you have to move and relocate the floating palettes and the main toolbar (see the attachment). Would be desirable to have another interaction with the save window, maybe hiding temporarily the palettes (now I do by myself pressing TAB) or pushing on the foreground the dialog window. Other feedback, that could be considered, is to allow more workspaces and the possibility to save them. There are many reasons, useless to explain, in which you need to save two or three workspaces with the disposition of palettes and toolbar you need.
  10. Why iPad version of Affinity saves projects in app instead of icloud drive affinity folder, i guess the ipad version should link it main screen to affiniy photo folder in icloud file app, if i update from ipad i can use same on mac, but in this case i have to export project to icloud drive in order to use it on mac, and if i forget to export then i cant open that project on mac, same as if i export that project in icloud and edit it on mac then i want to do something on ipad with same file then ill have to open from icloud and that copies to ipad version but not updating the icloud version, with this practice the more i import the more copies ill get on ipad version, which is quiet waste of space.
  11. Hi, When you choose to "Save As" for a new document, Affinity Photo defaults to ".afphoto", its native file format. If I wish to "Save As" to a different format, I have to "Export" instead. There may be numerous reasons why this is the default way Affinity Photo works, but it is really annoying. Why can't we choose which method to "Save As" when we, select "Save As", without having to resort to exporting instead? Users complained about this in Gimp for many years. As an artist I save the largest majority of my images, like many do I expect as .jpg, or .png. perhaps even .PSD to be compatible with other people. Occasionally I will use .aphoto, but I have to consider future archival options too. Other software doesn't open .afphoto files either, at least, not yet. Instinctively you head over to "Save As", intending to save your work, then think, "Damn!" and then have to cancel, then select the "Export" option from the menu instead. You might say that I'll get used to it eventually, but I've been using Affinity Photo since it came out and I still fall into the trap. I know that Affinity Photo's native file format is best for Affinity Photo, so it includes all your Adjustments etc, but can't we have the choice? Just a drop down menu like other software like Photoshop where Affinity chooses by default it's propitiatory format, but allows you to select an alternative if necessary? The "Export" option is so unnecessary, not just for me, but everyone I've talked to who uses Affinity Photo. Can we have the option please? Even if it's a option to tick in the Preferences? Thanks, Jay.
  12. When working on file that is read-only, it would be really useful if hitting CTRL+S (or going to File > Save) would either present an alert saying the file is read only and cannot be saved, or opening the 'Save As...' dialogue box like Photoshop does. I was working on a file the other day for several hours, not realising that it was read-only and that pressing CTRL+S was not saving my work (as there was no feedback to suggest a problem). Then when the app froze and had to be restarted, I was dismayed to see all the changes I had done were lost.
  13. Trying to update from 1.6.4 and unable to export/"save as" for existing documents. Instructions point to save as option in gallery thumbnails, but that option does not appear in my install. Is there a step I’m missing?
  14. I don't know if this is something that would have to be implemented by Affinity or by Amazon but I would very much like to have the ability to Save an .afphoto file to Amazon Drive in addition to the other cloud services. Dropbox is slow and iCloud is not an option. I want a service to simply store my images; not to control them.
  15. why both affinity photo and design have same action when i press ctrl + s (save) and ctrl + shift + s (save as). i think ctrl + s should save file in affinity file format and ctrl + shift + s Should able to export file in different format. this is very annoying both have same action. please solve this problem.

    Crash on Save

Hi, I'm having an issue where I open a new blank document, and when I go to save, Affinity Designer crashes. When I open an old document and "save as", it crashes. Basically, hitting "save as" makes the program crash. :( If I open up an old document, modify it, hit save. It's fine. I hope you can help me!
  17. Inconvenient behavior when sending an image to Affinity Photo from an external browser such as ACDSee or ON1's browser module: 1. Choose the image file within a browser 2. Send file to open within Affinity Photo 3. Perform editing in AP 4. Select "Save As" to save your work When you choose "Save As" in AP to save work in a native file, the application opens the "last saved" folder, which is not necessarily the folder where the file resides. This requires navigation to the native folder before implementing Save As. Please change the default behavior in this circumstance to open in the home folder of the file being edited. (That's the way it works when the the file is opened from within AP.)
  18. When I wish to save an image I have finished working on and I want to save it, the only option available to me is with an AFPHOTO file extension. How do I save a file, say, as a TIF, JPG or any other common type of file extension ? "Save As" does not give me any option either. There surely must be a way to do it, what am I doing wrong ?

    AD useless after purchase?!?

Hello everybody, i am having lots of problems with my newly purchased Affinity Designer :( I used the free trial for the last week and really liked AD. Today i purchased the full version on the App Store. Now i can’t use AD anymore. Here are the problems i know of so far: 1. I can’t open any AD files i created with the trial version. Nothing happens if i click on a file. 2. I can create but I can’t save new files. I keep getting this message: "Failed to save document: <Untitled> Save failed because the file path that given was not valid." This happens regardless of the folder i choose to save the file in. 3. AD crashes whenever i try to place a file inside the file (like a scan of a sketch). So, what can i do? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Henry
  20. First time posting, but need to know, have many documents created in Serif Page Publisher and converted to PDF. Affinity accepts these without alterations from what I see. But will it allow me to save changes in PDF format? If not, whilst great functionality, it is not of complete use to me as I create many publications between 100 to 200 pages in PDF format. Will soon want to create publications greater than 200 pages. Will need PDF functionality.
  21. New to Affinity Photo, and so far, what I've seen looks good, then it all comes to an abrupt halt. Trying to do my forum avatar pic, I decide to use my new Serif software to resize my picture. All going good, until I come to "Save As", so that I can save my image as a JPEG. Even this forum doesn't recognise AFphoto files! Serif - the product is good, but why do I not have the option to save my processed file to what I want? For this example, JPEG would be enough. In the future however, it would nice to be able to convert my images to other file formats - such as DNG etc. How after processing my images - or friends images, as I do sometimes - how do I send them back their image - so that they can open it on their systems? :(
  22. Possibly a rookie move on my part, but I have noticed on a couple of occasions that if I open a file I have been working on, choose the 'Save As' option in the file menu, the newly created file overwrites the original one, rather than duplicating it. Am I doing something wrong? Cheers
  23. I'm new to this and I can't seem to save each layer, so when I want to work on it again, it is there. In Photoshop I would simply save the file as a ".psd" but I don't seem to have that option for this. I'm sure it is a simple answer and would really appreciate anyone that can help me out. Thanks for your time.
  24. Hi team! Why some exports to PDF resulted on a "big white square" on Windows PC? On Mac OS and iOS I can open the file normally but not on Windows PC -> Except if I open the PDF with Chrome on Windows PC! INSULA - Côtés de scène.pdf
  25. I m using the latest Beta. I've had a lot of problems this afternoon. I went to open one of the two designs I made earlier - under Open Recent - and there were 4 versions of one and 8 versions of the other shown there. I opened the top one and worked on it for about half an hour then went to Save and got the message "Cannot save document as cannot verify you are the owner. Document will now close". All my work lost! I opened the original again and this time tried Save As and renamed it. It did not change the open one I was working on, as is normal behaviour, (still called original name) and does not appear in Open Recent (but it is shown in Finder). These are designs I have to show my customer tomorrow but how can I rely on it saving my work properly? I have regrettfully gone back to Sketch for now, I hope you can get this sorted soon, as I like AD but have to be able to rely on it doing the basic Mac stuff.
