  1. Several times I've tried to set the ruler's "zero" position (spread origin) away from the default location and have the change apply to the entire publication. But the change seems to apply only to the page where it was made. I tried it on a master page, thinking the change might be "inherited" by all document pages based on the particular master page. That didn't work. Is there a way to set the spread origin position globally so that the "zero" position is set for all pages or spreads—until you reset it manually?
  2. Hello there. In your version for ipad, how can I see the length when drawing lines? I need to make scaled drawings. How can I do it in this program? I am thinking of buying but I have read that there is no tool for ruler and measurement, is it true ?
  3. Affinity defaults on pixels for the ruler measurement. Can I change the default to inches? Thank you, Tim
  4. I'd like to suggest you to create a simple method to connect the C point perpendicular to the AB segment. If you need some inspiration Coreldraw has a pretty decent way to do that - direct and intuitive. BTW, measuring tools would be great too.
  5. Hello everyone, I am look for a quick way to center the point of origin/ intersection point/ spread origin of the ruler in Affinity Photo (vers. 1.8.3.641). I know I can move it with the move tool or via the Guides Manager. However, this would require me to calculate the middle of hight and width by hand. I could not find a way so far to have it start there automatically (or any thread with the solution on here, I am afraid). What I am looking looking for is how to have the origin of the ruler be in the dead center of any given image (would also be nice for the grid, too, to have it start right in the middle of a picture). This would especially useful for pictures with non-standard dimensions. Thank you in advance!
  6. Hi, I'm pretty new to Affinity Designer software. I am trying to create a guide by click and dragging from the ruler with the move tool. I have read the comments but I can't make head nor tails of it. Someone claims to have found the solution by "unlocking the guides". When I searched a topic on hoe to unlock guides someone answered that a lock/unlock function hadn't been added yet and would be added at a later date. So, at the moment my left eye is looking in my right trouser pocked with frustration. Any advice would be great. Thank you Rob
  7. 1. Would it be possible in one of the next updates to make the rulers show metric divisions in ten sub-divisions. For example, if I am using a metric rulers, the divisions between cm for example, are not 10, but 5. This makes it very difficult and awkward to measure correctly dimensions using the rulers. 2. Could you also make the zero coordinate of the ruler system be flexible, and to be moved to wherever you want to measure within a drawing. Something like PhotoShop and CorelDraw have. Not having 10 subdivisions in the metric system (the first issue above) it makes almost impossible to precisely measure an element in the drawing that is not aligned exactly to the origin top left hand corner.
  8. Win 7 sp1 Publisher 1.8.2.620 If I move the X origin 8.5 inches to the right on a two page publication, so that the zero is centred on the spine, that X origin does not carry over when the master page is applied to regular pages. To get the ruler zeroed on the spine, it appears that the X origin must be relocated separately for each and every two pages.
  9. I just ditched my PC and got a Mac, good move. I bought both Affinity Photo and Designer. Previously I used Corel Draw to make plan drawings. My question is how do you move the zero reference point of the ruler if you want to use the ruler to draw a line of a particular lenth? Also how do you change the scale of the ruler if you want to have, say, 5cm on paper represent 1 meter on the drawing? Both these operations are quite strait forward in Corel Draw, and I can't imagine how you would make a dimensioned scaled drawing without this feature. Thanks for any advice.
  10. If I activate the ruler in Affinity Designer my permonace instantly slows (moving stucks, button reacts after a delay which is normaly not the case) down but my cpu or RAM arent fully occupied. Sometimes the problem solves itself after a couple of minutes but sometimes it stays for my entire session so i have to turn it off.
  11. Win 7, Publisher 17.0.277 I find placing guides via the guide manager impossible on a double-page spread because the guideline measurements do not relate to the zero marks on the rulers if the zeros have been offset from the top left-hand corner. This really bad when placing vertical guides relative to the vertical centre line in the middle of a two-page spread. A guide supposed to be +5" to the right of the centre line actually ends up 5" from the left-hand side of the left page, even though the x-zero mark on the ruler is in the dead centre of the double-page spread. In other words, it ends up -3.5" (i.e. to the left) from the centre line. Zeros.docx
  12. The current possibility to set the origin of the Grid and Ruler is great - thank you. But would it be possible to allow a quick and easy setting of the origin according to the set Margins? For example, at define margins in document settings, check the separate checkboxes "Set Grid / Ruler origin to margin".
  13. Good day! Add a "Ruler" - left and top, as in the version for the PC. Implement this feature soon! For Affinity Designer / Affinity Photo
  14. Please add ruler to designer on ipad
  15. Windows 10, Publisher build 174. I only found this by accident. I can imagine why, when dragging a new guide out, it might be useful to turn the Preview Mode off - if only temporarily at least - but I don't see why a simple click should do it also since clicking on a ruler doesn't actually do anything else (as far as I know, it doesn't look like it does).
  16. I apologise if this subject has been covered elsewhere, but I could not find it. I am new to Affinity but with 25 years of Adobe experience. Being able to view the 'bleed' in a document before printing is very much desirable but I found mention of it elsewhere as a likely upgrade. My main question is of being able to move the ruler origin in a document so that like in 'Illustrator' you can easily change the origin while you are working to suit different origins within your design that you need to work from. It is very rare, when working, that you don't wish to shift the origin for the purpose of measuring simply from a particular object. Is this already possible, but I've missed it in the help or tutorials or is this something that might be provided in an update? Otherwise, I am enjoying the experience!
  17. I wasn't able to find out how to set the ruler in percent units wich is really a big need for me. When I go to the zoom or ruler I do not see "percent" as an option. Thanks
  18. Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro is just great and I hope Designer is coming soon as well. Until now I had only used AP to edit photos, but finally I got around to try it out as a drawing app and it rocks! But nothing as good that it can’t be better so here’s my list of features I’d like to see. One is quite simple: add a line tool to shapes. There is the arrow tool but then I need to select none for the arrowheads and if it had been the other way round, I’d be content. The reason I ask for it is because I often add a thin line to frame my cartoons, for instance. Procreate has a solution for it; you just draw a line and press and hold and it snaps into a straight line. But since iOS support a ruler why not add that? Well, it wouldn’t work on the desktop version or for other platforms, but a ruler would be handy as a support when drawing straight lines. Then I’d like to see something like Photoshop’s Magic Wand - a really quick selection tool. Click. Select. (And now I remembered a useful feature in Procreate; to be able to select a layer as a reference layer.) Finally I would like to see a do not disturb mode, a clean sheet or drawing mode. By that I mean something like the full screen mode you have, where menus go away - but they snap back too easily! When I have chosen my tool I’m all absorbed when I’m drawing and I work fast and intensely. Then it’s frustrating when all the menus pop have or I inadvertently touch some feature I don’t want. If by clicking the little icon in the upper right corner really meant that everything but the canvas go away and stay away until you click it back again, it would be great. And then the adjustments for the brushes should go away, too. That was all and forgive me if this was posted in a wrong place and feel free to move it where it should be.
  19. intelligent_rulers_upd2.afdesign Because some are waiting tooooooooo long for better rulers including a “change origin point” feature, we made a flexible ruler for dm, Berthold points, Pica points, Didot points, DTP Cicero and other units that you can change easily for your own needs just in seconds. Even if you need furlong, light-nanoseconds, Fournier point … no problem. Now you can have many rulers with different units at the same time. And they even can measure curves. Some backgrounds can be found somewhere. Have fun and help to improve Affinity apps. The old ones: intelligent_rulers.afdesign intelligent_rulers_upd.afdesign
  20. Hi, I've had a quick search for these related items and couldn't find and they're niggling me, not having them in Designer. They're related to Rules/Rulers/Guides... Perhaps new feature requests!?!: Drag ruler back into the ruler area to remove Right-click ruler bar for options (remove all, place rule at a set distance, units change) Drag ruler outside the ruler area to force a scroll When dragging a new ruler out, so a live measurement on the line as well as in the transform pallette (maybe?) (perhaps fixed here: Thanks
  21. Hey, I saw a request for this feature last year, and haven’t seen any discussion on it. I’m designing a book cover, and need to put in guides. I’m not seeing a ruler option. Why doesn’t this have a ruler? Isn’t that kind of important in any design or photo software that supports print-ready projects? am I just missing the option? just downloaded the app, and this was the first thing I tried to do. I’m excited to get to know the app more. can I have a ruler, please? Haha
  22. Hello, my problem is: when editing some pictures the rulers flicker. Very noticeable and disturbing! No matter what tool I use. I noticed that the problem does not occur with all images. Also, there seems to be no pattern!? It seems arbitrary. I've attached a video in which you can see that quite well. It was already in the previous version and I was hoping that it will be fixed in the new version. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Sorry about my english! Thanks. 2017-11-29 at 22-34-34.mp4
  23. Hi. Please add the ability to change the ruler's unit of measure from pixels to inches. Print-related work is often measured in inches (here in the U.S.). I am sure other units of measure would be appreciated by others, as well. Please allow a right-click on the Ruler to change the units of measure. Thank you!
  24. I am trying to draw diagrams with lots of loops. I have posted an example below. I tried for a few hours last night before eventually giving up when Designer crashed. What would really help is to have guide tools such as those available in Sketch Pro. The Ruler, Protractor, French Curve and Perspective tools in particular would be very helpful. Oh, and plus 1 more for arrow and other heads and tails for lines (although I note lots of acceptable work arounds for these). Otherwise, a great product.
