  1. How do I resize my layers panel vertically. I can make it wider by pulling on the corners but I can't get it to go vertically.
  2. I'm very new to Affinity Photo so am getting to know where it really shines and where it falls short. By no means was I adept at Photoshop, but I found it essential for recording Actions. Unfortunately I've run into some issues using Affinity Photo's Macros in Batch jobs. The main one being that if I have a folder full of images that are in different aspect ratios (3:2, 4:3) it seems I am unable to record a Macro that resizes to a specific width or height ONLY. When I record a Macro and resize a 4:3 file to say 800px wide, with the size locked the height of course becomes 600px. If I run that Macro as a Batch on the folder of mixed aspect ratio images, the images that are in 3:2 ratio are resized to 800px x 600px, so they're badly distorted. So the Macro records the dimensions of BOTH edges when the resizing takes place, rather than only the edge you actually edit (as is the case in Photoshop). Is there an obvious solution to this that I am missing?
  3. I am very new to this, having previously used Microsoft Office Publisher to desk-top edit our parish magazine - and now switched to Affinity Publisher. I know that I should be able to get the text and frame to scale together if I use the outlying handle on the bottom right corner, but it does not seem to work - text overflows (see image). Could it be something to do with the formatting of the text? Surely it should work whatever the format? I can start with all text inside the box, but when I try to scale it using the "spare" handle, it just doesn't work as I've seen it do in the tutorial. Any suggestions please??
  4. So I have a layout that has numerous text boxes, that was originally designed for 8.5x11". I want to scale the design down to 5.5x8.5". How do I scale the text boxes so that when I scale them down, the font is resized automatically? Currently this is what is happening: I grab a handle of a text box that contains 12 point font, and scale it down. The text box scales down, but the font within does not. The font stays the same size (12 point), and eventually the words in the textbox simply overflow the textbox, because they no longer fit within the smaller dimensions of the scaled textbox. What I am trying to achieve: I grabe a handle of a text box that contains 12 point font, and scale it down. The text box scales down, as does the font within. The font goes from 12 point to whatever is need to keep its layout within the textbox (let's say 9 points). The words in the textbox don't overflow, as they maintain their original layout within the textbox. Ideally I want to achieve this without converting to curves, as I want to retain the ability to edit the text.
  5. Although I'd rather like to see the resource manager will be converted to a studio-panel, so it's dockable and embeddable as a studio-panel/-tab, like posted in this thread: ...the way it is build now the resizing of the panel isn't working. It shows the resize icon on all edges, but resizing doesn't work (see video below). It's a huge panel I'd like to keep open, but it's just too large to do that (and it's impossible to include it in the studio area, because it doesn't dock/embed) resource-panel-resizing-not-working.mp4
  6. I have hundreds of images of various sizes, mostly very large sizes, that I want to resize to a maximum width of 1920px, at 72DPI, RGB colour mode, JPG format. The height should be variable since the original images have various heights as well and I need to keep the aspect ratio to prevent distortions. (1)is this possible with Affinity Photo? (2)what would be the steps for the resizing to record as a macro. (I tried recording resizing one image and then use that recording for a batch job but AP used also a fixed height on every image resulting in many distorted images)
  7. Hi, I've googled this a quite a bit and seen a bunch of suggested tweaks that satisfied people, but I can't get anything to work, so sorry if this looks like a dupe. I'm trying to export vectors from Affinity Designer to SVG to use for a laser cutter. Every time I do, the SVG is resized. It doesn't matter what resolution or size document I use, or whether I specify an export resolution, or uncheck the "set viewBox" setting, or only export the objects and not the canvas, literally nothing produces an SVG file that preserves the actual size of what I've drawn. I've opened the SVGs in Inkscape, Lightburn, and AD itself, and they're always bigger. The first time I caught it, it had upscaled a 4" coaster to over a foot diameter. Resizing the image in another program isn't the biggest deal if all I'm doing is a 2-D design, but if I'm cutting pieces for a box with finger joints, resizing can throw things off big time. And going from AD to Inkscape to Lightburn just to get the SVG imported for the laser cutter is a bit of a pain, so I'm really hopeful there's a fix here. I've attached AD and SVG files of a simple square to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Specs: Affinity Designer 1.6.5, MacOS Mojave, recent MacBook Pro. Thanks! squaretest.afdesign squaretest.svg
  8. Hello: I just purchased Affinity Photo today, hoping to replace Adobe and their subscription. But I am having trouble with one thing - resizing. I am a digital artist, and I save all my work at 300 dpi so it can be used to create fine art prints. But no matter how I try and how many tutorials I watch, I cannot get Affinity Photo to save anything at more than 72 dpi. Watched the tutorials on Vimeo, YT, looked through the Affinity FAQ, googled for any solution at all, and I can find nothing that will allow me to save a document at 300 dpi. What am I missing, or is this not possible? If it's not possible, then I'm afraid AP is not the software I need. Thanks for your help in advance! barbaralbs
  9. You can enter percentages in the width/height property fields under the transform tab. I just wanted to resize a rectangle by typing because I wanted it to be exactly half the width. I am lazy and bad at calculating by head so I figured I just enter "50%" in the width field of the rectangle under the transform tab. And it worked
  10. Hi, Thanks for taking the time. My challenge is in finding images that look high quality on desktop and mobile devices while having the file sizes remain low so that it doesn't slow down page load and also use up a lot of space on my server. I was surprised to find that when I resized a 6000 * 4000 to 600 * 400 that the quality appeared reduced. I'm thinking this is simply because it is a physically smaller image that I'm looking at on the same size screen. At least that makes sense to me. I also understand there is something called resampling and I should select bilinear when i resize, but this still made no difference. Which brings me back to the challenge of how to select images (I'm using Unsplash) to get images that look good on desktop and mobile but also still have a small file size. Appreciate any advice or resource you can point me to so that I can learn how to select an image and create a workflow that makes this an easy process. Thanks again.
  11. Hello, is it possible to change the size of identical objects simultaneously? When I mark all objects, which I want to resize, I can change the size of the whole group, but not of the individual object any more. Thanks for any advice! Best, Chris
  12. When I place an image on a page it appears huge. If I select resize it to a smaller size it disappears although it is still shown in the layers palette. Attached is a video that shows what I mean - the image I'm placing is 20" wide at 300 dpi. RGB Disappearing image.mov
  13. Hi, I often need to build a new picture from several others and I did that in photoshop by "transforming" the layers ("cmd t" keyboard shortcut). Isn't there anything like that possible in Affinity Photos for Desktop Mac? I couldn't find it at least.
  14. Hi everyone, I'd like to edit the attached clock dial - can someone please tell me how I could resize all the dots simultaneously? I tried doing it one by one, but that's really tedious Many thanks! Joanna
  15. When resizing a photo in Affinity Photo it does not show the current MB size of the photo I am working on. It does not show the changed MB size of the photo. I have a MB requirement to meet when sizing photos and I do not want to have to close out and find the size of the photo in the directory. Where is the MB size of the photo while working in Photo? In Photoshop it shows in the resize dialog bow while performing the sizing function. I have searched to no avail. Thanks!
  16. Hi all, I have a Affinity Photo Design that I have built with 4800 x 4000 pixels; 300dpi and my customer wants to have it in logo size, so quite small for a letter head. I do not quite manage to maintain the quality of my bigger file. Would anyone have the expertise in Affinity Photo of how to resize to such a smaller size (approx. 2,5 inch to 1,5 inch) maintaining the good quality? thx in advance, Kristina
  17. You can replicate the error if you have the brush tool and you resize the window either from the sides or corners of the affinity photo window, after that the pressure of any brush can be detected and gets like lineal the only way I found to fixed it is to close the application and open it again.
  18. Hello. After the update 1.6.7 in Affinity, I cannot seem to resize an image how I used to with the Move tool in the Photo section. Normally I would be able to select the six points around the image and resize it with moving my finger, however whenever I attempt it now on it just moves the image in the direction I move my finger. I am not sure if this is a bug or you just moved this ability to another tool, however if this is an issue hopefully you can get this fixed. If this isn’t a bug and it’s just been given to another tool, please may you inform me of that if that’s the case. Thank you
  19. Hey Folks, somehow i can't solve this problem. I guess i miss something here. (Talking 'bout AD) The problem is: I allready have a vectorized form with diffrent layers an groups. Now i want to change the size of the whole form, like from 200px to 1500px. The stroke-size remains the same, so that the strokes are getting thinner while the whole composition is getting bigger (or other way around just like in my attachment). Is there a way to change the size and keep the proportions still? I attached two files to make it clear. Hope someone can help me?! Thanks
  20. I am working 2K 2048 x 1080 resolution video. I use AP in Mac to clean old photos and framing also them for editing. I found out that sometimes AP does not give right resolution 2048 x 1080 resolution when I am exporting the photo but adds or cuts off +-1 pixel for example 2047 x 1080. What should I do about it?
  21. I was doing a simple illustration, though using 50+ layers and was spendig about 2 hrs when the software flipped out as soon as I resized my single art board. I have recorded a video of this happening which I will attach to this topic. I'm not entirely sure of the steps to reproduce this bug. What I can remember is this: - This file is a "save as" from a previous file. - I also created a new a4 horizontal document in which I drew a component - I copy/pasted this new vector component onto my "saved as" file and started reworking all existing elements. - A lot of tiny curves were grouped and 'nested' within an existing object (using the rightmost button in the toolbar) - Some objects were cropped using the vector crop tool. - Everything in the file is basically vectors. No pixels. - After a while I wanted to resize the art board. Upon sliding the corner point outwards, the software immediately threw all of my objects around. (see video attached) * layers were retained in their z-index (if I can call it that) * everything was thrown around with each mouse movement. Even far outside the artboard * Most objects were resized -> At this point I made a screen recording. After the recording, I tried "save as", saved the "damaged file" hoping it was just a visual glitch. I kept the software open, clicked on the tab of the other file I had open (the object I created on a blank canvas) and tried resizing that artboard: Everything was fine in that other file. Which leads me to believe the software had an issue with that single file causing something to flip out. After restarting the software, I opened up the damaged file. It was saved without error and I could open it fine. But it has all objects messed up (so, like I saved it) so I had to start over. Further details: - Win10 x64 intel i7 8700K / nvidia gtx 980ti / 32 GB RAM - Affinity designer for Windows, latest version - No plugins, I use the software exclusively. I do have the included UI kit and brushes imported, as well as Frankentoon Nomad pack. - Other apps running at the time were Google Chrome (about 6 tabs open), Steam, Google Backup and Sync - No error messages were given, no real crash occurred. CPU did not spike and memory usage seemed ok (though I have quite some memory) afdesbug.mp4
  22. I’m an illustrator. I’ve started drawing my work in Clip Studio Paint on my iPad, and CSP works best producing art at 600dpi. I was hoping to be able to use Affinity Photo on my iPad to resize these 600dpi greyscale .tiffs produced in CSP into bitmap .tiff files (1200dpi, black and white values only). Is there a way to do this? On my 2015 iPad Pro, it seems like the max dpi for an image file in Affinity Photo is 400dpi. Is that correct? Is there a way to change this? Even though 1200dpi is a very high resolution, my illustrations are not very complex. Thank you.
  23. Hi, last week CW44 I've done some updates on my main working pc. such as windows from 1603 to 1703 and the affinity to the 16 version. Unfortunately, I realized the issue that (brush resizing & softening/sharpening with Alt+Pen Right Click+Display Contact) doesn't work anymore. I've attached a video file with this bug. As a graphic tablet, I use a UGEE 2150. My first thought was the affinity 16 or the driver of the UGEE is the problem. So I reinstalled the affinity photo 15 back. It had still the same problem. So I reinstalled the drivers from the UGEE. still the same problem. as the last step, I reinstalled windows 10 completely to the version 10240. In the end, this was the only way to run affinity photo 16 without this resizing bug. To be sure that this bug is reproducible and somehow related to the latest win10 update I tried the Affinity Photo on another PC with win10 1703 connected to a Wacom 27HD Touch - same bug. AND on a 2in1 tablet CUBE i7 but running on 1603 windows build. and it has the same issue. As mentioned in the video with this behavior is attached. Guys, I really love your software I paint a lot with it but this bug is a major blocker in my workflow. At least if I want to work on the latest windows version. For now, I will work on the old 10240 build but I hope this can be fixed somehow that I can use an up to date windows again. By the way, Photoshop does not have this issue - I hope this additional info helps as well 20171113_120837.mp4
  24. Hi. I'm using affinity designer 1.5.3.69 I found this behavior quite disturbing (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) When you resize/ scale single shape/ selection of shapes using corner handle, the default scaling method is "free scaling" instead of aspect ratio/ constraint proportion. But if you resize a group of items, or text, or image, the default resizing method is "constraint proportion/ aspect ratio". Thanks.
  25. After many trials I found that by holding down CMD and OPT (Mac) in AD I could resize my selection proportionally, including text which otherwise would be distorted. Today, however, this appears not to be working as it did in the past. I've looked over Preferences but as yet find nothing there that I could have changed. Is it true that CMD/OPT should maintains all proportions while resizing? ... Aha! I've just discovered that it appears the Frame Text does not resize (probably due to the constraints of the box) but that Artistic text does. Thus I will have to redo all of my Frame Text into Artistic Text. Related Issue: One of my map docs is 96 DPI in Doc Setup, while earlier work on the same map was 300 DPI (my fault for not discovering this earlier). I thought that I could simply change my earlier doc to 96 DPI, adjust the Doc Setup size to the 312.5% larger size on screen, save it and then be able to copy/paste it into my 96 DPI doc for finer adjustments. However, when I copied/pasted my revision into my 96 DPI doc, it reverted to the 300 DPI larger size on screen. Some basic tips on these issues above would be much appreciated. Thanks!
