  1. Quick mask (Q) (don't exit) New Mask Layer boom (crashes)
  2. This is a plain problem that has been occurring since the early days. STEP: Enter Quick mask mode Draw a mask area Move the cursor to the photo Cancel Quick mask mode Move the cursor Then, the place where the cursor was placed is apparently displayed as a selected area. In fact it is not a selection area. Only visible dotted line display. This has occurred since around Affinity Photo was released. I would like to improve this soon. --- macOS Mojave 10.14.2 | Affinity Photo 1.6.7 | Nvidia GTX680(Current)
  3. Hi Like many on here I have tried to use Quick Mask and with the Paint Brush tool and it does not work. I have selected the WHITE color picker and alpha protect is OFF. I have one background pixel layer and it is unlocked. When I press Q it does create the RED Mask. When I use the paint brush tool it does start to put some very weak black splodges under the red but in no way does it reveal the original section of the photo i want to select. If I create a selection using one of the selection tools then create the Quick Mask it works perfectly on the selection I have made. However using the Paint Brush it simply does not work Software is Affinity Photo 1.6.7 MAC OS is High Serria 10.13.6 Your help would be appreciated
  4. Select an area. Quick mask on. Select/Grow/Shrink -- greyed out -- presumably you can't use it in Quick mask. However... Select an area. Select / Grow/Shrink. Make adjustment. Hit enter (but not Apply). Marquee shows adjustment. Quick mask can now be turned on, but does not show the adjustment. Hit apply on the Grow/Shrink dialogue box. Adjustment is now lost. The same effect happens with such as Smooth and Feather.
  5. Hi, everytime I transform (resize) a simple selection (using the quick mask mode and then the move tool) i get soft / feathered edges of the selection afterwards. It's possible that I am not aware of some settings or I am doing something wrong but to me this seems like a bug. I attached a picture with description how to reproduce the bug. Affinity Photo Trial 1.5.1.54 Windows 7 64bit
  6. Steps to reproduce in AF 1.6.1.93: 1) Have a pixel layer 2) create a selection 3) switch to quick mask mode with Select -> Edit Selection as Layer 4) Filters -> Blur -> Maximum Blur 5) Click on Split View icon in the Maximum Blur settings dialog 6) Move around the After / Before splitter bar and notice that the render blocks immediately on the left side of the splitter bar are drawn incorrectly with vivid red color.
  7. I make a selection and add Quick Mask but I can't refine the selection using paint brush...white or black will add to mask rather than subtract. quick mask.pdf
  8. When I use selection by quick mask + pain brush tool, then I turn off quick mask, I can't see selection edge (dot line) ps. OS - Windows 10 64 bit Affinity Photo version : 1.6.2.97
  9. I am currently trialing Affinity Photo, went to apply a quick mask as described in the tutorial video - but it does not work. Why? Does the trial version have limited functionality? So I open the photo, select Quick Mask from the top icon, a red mask is applied, I select the paint brush tool, set to 100% opacity and flow, click and drag on the photo - but nothing happens. The red overlay is unaffected. I have been through the tutorial several times and I believe I am following it correctly. In the tutorial, the underlying background is revealed through the red overlay under the brush, to create the mask, but this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong like a missing step or a setting to make? Is the trial version unable to do this? For me this is key functionality i.e. to be able to paint on adjustments, for example as one can in Lightroom (which I am also trialing). If this functionality is disabled in Photo how can i successfully trial it?
  10. Hi everyone, When using the flood select tool, you allways get a selection of 100% which can be what you want in some cases and in others not! I rather expected to be able to select an area and get also somehow a blurred selection rather as you do by using the "Select sampled color" comand in the select menue. But this "select sampled color" comand is hidden . And alsoits sometimes difficult to realy judge, with the "select sampled color" command , to judge, what you realy selected, because the selecion corner only shows the 50% area... So both tools can be improved together in workflow with the Quick mask toggle.. Here comes my idea as a jpg file. Tell me what you think about it.. Tom
  11. Recently started switching over to Affinity Photo last week and today running into issues with masking. I've seen several posts about the Quick Mask not working for some people over the last couple of years. I've uploaded a 30-sec video showing what I am doing, so hopefully someone will spot what is wrong. This issue happens with painting masks in any way. I have the brush set to white, but I get no preview under the brush and no change in the masking/no masking at all. Late Mac Pro, 6-Core with maxed out of RAM/GPU, macOS Sierra Thanks for the help. 12. I have an issue with selection. I am choosing quick mask to select an object but it's the area around the object I want to modify (in Photoshop, I used to be able to inverse selection and the pixels outside the selection were then selected) How do I do that?
  13. When you make a selection (using the marquee tool) on a layer and subsequently copy that selection, everything works fine. See photos ‘Capture20’ and ‘Capture21’. But, when you change the size of the selection, by using quick masque and the move tool, the chosen selection is copied incorrectly. See photos ‘Capture22’, ‘Capture23’, ‘Capture24’, ‘Capture25’ and ‘Capture26’.
  14. It would be great if I could add feathering to the quick mask brush. Thank you!
  15. The normal brush does not work in quick mask on my windows version 15.023.20053,however if I use the color blend brush or the color replacement brush it works why?
  16. Hi, probably I discovered a minor bug. If you toggle the Quick Mask via keyboard shortcut (Q) while the (nice) brush preview is visible, it get's converted as if you had really painted on the layer. Works both ways. However, if you toggle back, it's luckily gone. So no big deal, but most likely a bug nonetheless ;) I guess people using the toolbar will never notice this, as then there is no previewed brush stroke visible. Thanks and best regards, Henning P.S.:Really great software, by the way. Hope you'll manage to squash all the bugs and keep improving it. I already like it better than PS :)
  17. I'm trying to create a portrait with other images showing through the image (Double Exposure Effect?) I seem to be struggling with the layer mask side of things adding in multiple textures to achieve the effect. Please can anyone assist me? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks PP
  18. Just to let the Affinity team know: Affinity Photo 1.4.1 crashes, using these steps: 1. open a picture 2. use filter frequency separation 3. setting a radius 4. clicking quick mask 5. selecting brush tool --> crash Regards opalla_de
  19. When i make a selection, refine the mask and than make a new layer with mask; than try retouch the mask with the brush I get what looks like corrupted data. Is this a bug or what. I have tired installing and reinstalling photo. I am using the trial, I was going to buy this program it looks great but not if this is right. I have attached a screen shot, can anyone help me out.
  20. A suggestion: It would be neat if unused tools would grey out. I think this would make it easier to navigate the interface by way of reducing choice. For example, when using Quick Mask: grey out everything that isn't a brush. Or even go a step further: after selecting Quick Mask, automatically engage the brush and make the color white. Thanks!
