  1. Hello as it seems from this thread that I was looking for a solution, there is some short of problem with affinity designer reading some fonts. @LibreTraining describe it better in the above thread than I could. So if you please take a look on what he is saying about the fonts, I'm not that into the technical part to re-describe it myself here. Thanks for your hard work
  2. Hello everyone. First I am sorry if this is duplicate or there is answer already (if there is I will be deeply obliged to anyone who can answer to me). Also may be I am incompetent - I do not want to say anything bad, and this may not be bug, but my fault (not knowing some setting for example). However - here is my problem. First the problems with the fonts - fonts are basically the main building block when you make any publication regardless of the type of it. My first and main problem now is that Cyrillic fonts are not properly recognized and give error message of "Unsupported characters used" unless the font is .OTF - so no post script for example. When we make publications, catalogs, magazines, whatever - there is variety of fonts that are used and if they have Cyrillic encoding recognized by the other programs, and in this case there is Cyrillic encoding and it is recognized in variety of programs, the client wants to use it. But the program does not. Also the program uses some other fonts that it uses to substitute - but I cannot see what is used neither where - at least I was not able to make it to highlight the missing and substituted fonts - just the exclamation marker on my Character panel if i go locate it manually and then in font manager - this error message. I tried to see what is going on and yes this is the same - regardless if I open document, PDF or I create brand new document with Publisher itself. It also does not recognize the fonts styles - here is an example what I mean: We bought PostSript 1 - the font have Cyrillic and Latin and it has 12 styles - From Light all the way to black. The font works when you use Latin but not the Cyrillic symbols. However - when you want to use it to substitute other font, the font manager always show you Light style - regardless that you may have chosen to use Black (it will draw it properly by the way, just you cannot see the choice you have made). This particular font is PostScript type 1 again, tried with multiple of those. However I am sure for Post Script 1 and do not know if it counts for other fonts also, but it makes your choices very restricted regardless of how many fonts you bought. If a font have Cyrillic and all other programs are seeing it, and can use it, I cannot say the client that he cannot use it just because my program does not support it. I hope this is all my fault but it looks like bug in the application for Mac. I am using and having this issue on mac OSX 10.11.6 in this case, currently searching for workaround, by the way. I bought the program for Windows also - and there is no problem with Post Script 1 type fonts on it. Also would like to ask what is the way to see what font have substituted the missing or "wrong" font and where -is there way to highlight it so it will be at a glance. Best Regards.
  3. Hi guys, I am a mechanical engineer specialist in gear design, and until recently never used any graphic design or image processing software. But since I started my own company and changed my career, I did a lot of research and decided to go with Affinity. It obviously is a very steep learning curve for me, but for the most part I am making progress, even though I have a long way to go. I decided to sign up for this forum, since sometimes I just can't find what I am looking for. So here is my first post, apologies for using the wrong terms, description etc. Problem: I need to send a company who makes our shipping boxes our logo. I have the logo as a vector graphic and in color. I like to convert it to grey scale/bw. So I added an black & white adjustment. I noticed that this resulted in the logo being rasterized during export. I read in one of the forums on here that adjustments should not have this impact as long as I choose "Postscript Level 3" during export, which I did. But for some reason this does not work for me. Hopefully someone can help me and point me in the right direction. Thanks for the support and help! Oliver HappyGrun_Color.afdesign HappyGrun_Final_ShortForm.eps HappyGrun_BW.eps
  4. Not everything can be easily done with AD tools or can not be done at all. For example, try to draw what is shown at the picture below. There are simply limitations of graphical user interface and some patterns require a different approach. Luckily, Affinity Designer can open encapsulated postscript files. Encapsulated postscript allows you manual generation of high-quality graphics. It means that you write a program in Postscript language which subsequently is interpreted by AD. To do this, you should only have so-called programmers text editor. It can be Apple TextEdit, Wrangler or Textastic. There is a problem, though. Before you try to open EPS file in AD, you should check if your program contains no errors. Postscript and Encapsulated Postscript files are interpreted by GhostScript program which can be called from a command line in Terminal window. First, you have to check if you have Ghostscript installed. If not, then you have to install it. In Terminal enter command: gs -version When the command was not found then you can download the latest version of GhostScript from Richard Koch page (http://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/). Locate the GhostScript link with the highest version number and click on it. This will start the download of the GhostScript package installer. How the download actually happens is dependent on your browser and system setup. Once the installer has downloaded, open the folder it was downloaded to. Double click the PKG icon and follow the on-screen instructions. Accept the defaults if you don't know what to change. Once the install process has finished you can check if GhostScript is installed and ready for action by entering gs command again: bash-3.2$ gs -version GPL Ghostscript 9.16 (2015-03-30) Copyright © 2015 Artifex Software, Inc. All rights reserved. Now you can write simple EPS program and check it with GhostScript. Using text editor enter Truchet Pattern program and save it using eps as filename extension. The code for Truchet Pattern is from "A Short Introduction to PostScript" by Peter Fisher: (http://sus.ziti.uni-heidelberg.de/Lehre/Tools1213/PostScript_PeterFischer.pdf) %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 %%BoundingBox: 0 0 592 842 %% File name: TruchetPattern.eps %%BeginProlog %%EndProlog 2.835 dup scale 5 4 translate 1 setlinecap 0 0 200 290 rectstroke 100 145 translate /W 10 def /W2 { W 2 div } bind def /DRAWUNIT { gsave translate rotate W2 neg W2 neg W2 0 90 arc stroke W2 W2 W2 180 270 arc stroke grestore } def -95 W 95 { /x exch def -140 W 140 { /y exch def rand 4 mod 90 mul x y DRAWUNIT } for } for showpage %%EOF In Terminal, go to directory where your EPS file was saved and open it with gs program: bash-3.2$ gs TruchetPattern.eps GPL Ghostscript 9.16 (2015-03-30) Copyright © 2015 Artifex Software, Inc. 5. Hi there, here i am again with another question... I´m trying to import a work i´ve done with Corel Draw into the AD. The only way i though i could do it was by creating a Pdf or even a Postscript file. The fact is that i can import them into my art board, but i´m not able to edit it. Is the a way i can access individually each object within the file?
